EDIT: This has been newly edited. Figured it was good for one more run through ye olde Matazone.

---

"Pass the Popcorn"

An old camcorder,
a flickering film real
in your eyes
behind them.
Neuro – erotic home movies
scenes flashing back and forth
sunken cathedrals and crystal castles
or a petroleum rainbow and child’s hopscotch
a pie on the window sill.

Juxtaposed, but
not black on white, but pink on blue, red on green.
Old footage of sunflowers
watercolor movie world,
a cinematic current carrying the
muffled soundtrack.

Technicolor steamboat
heavy metal corduroy, my
Degas dancer, palpable. My
Degas dancer, less defined. My
Degas dancer, more acrylic. My
Impressionism unrefinened.

Blinking scene changes
Sleeping act changes
Blow a kiss to camera two

And like a moth with a short attention span
I can’t choose between the movie on the surface
Or the light behind it

I’ve caught this flick a thousand times,
And one day, I’d like actually see it.

For some reason it makes me think of an acid trip. I want to say you were watching the Wizard of Oz, because I remember closeups of flowers and everything I see by technicolor is all like.... technicolor-ish.... But most of the poem doesnt fit that....

I like it anyway. What DID posess you to write it?

To answer Kitty, this was originally a love poem to my girlfriend, but she and I have long since broken up.

I started editing it the other day because I've realized how very awkward it was in the original state. The poem at the top is more cohesive (I think) while still conveying the general feel of the poem. And now with the editing finished I think that the point of the poem has shifted from a poem about a girl I know to a poem about the girl I don't.

It reminds me of a scene out of Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar," in which the main character complains of the vibrancy of technicolor.
Great poem!
