Ok, after having a bit of a ponder with Snoo, we thought this might be worth mentioning as a suggestion. Would anyone be up for a meet at a theme park in the summer? Alton Towers do cheap rates for big groups...or there's Drayton Manor (which is actually only about a mile from my house)

Anyway....thought I'd suggest it. I should imagine it'd be the usual mix of drunken frivolitly, only with roller coasters and other assorted fun-ness.

Waddya think?

Sounds scary and complicated, I like sitting in a pub or park with beer...much simpler.

Come on Paddy...expand your mind!!! Lets do something out of the norm! All the past Mata meets have all been sitting in a pub and getting blathered. I'm not suggesting breaking that tradition, I'm more suggesting we spice it up a little....with some roller coasters biggrin.gif

*Gives the idea a thumbs up*

Beer and rollercoasters? Think of the possibilities! Colourful spraying possibilities!

I say you all meet up and play Theme Park World. It'd be, like, almost as good and you don't have to go outside.

I'm not convinced. Beer and rollercoasters wacko.gif

Does seem like a different idea though. Always up for them!

Not sure how easy it would be for everyone money-wise. Plus we've already decided the next meet will be in Winchester in the summer some time.

What does everyone else think? smile.gif

Oooh, we could have our own little Matazone hippy artsy tent area! I might actually be able to afford that! (When I find a job and figure out whether Randy and I are moving to Atlanta or not, that is.)

I would love to do a meet at the Burning Man! The cost though... A plane ticket over there costs almost as much as a pint of beer in a theme park!

Oh gosh I would LOVE to go to a meet at a theme park <3 I haven't been to one in years! (I was in the scouts the last time I went to Drayton Manor! I love Alton Towers... thats not too far away from me).

Agh, we need to have a meet at a theme park AND one in Winchester, as we are broke at the moment and a meet in Winchester makes my pockets a lot less bleedy! tongue.gif

Well...themed parks aren't quite as fun in the rain so I should imagine a Summer shindig would be best. If enough people show an interest in it, I'll pop into Drayton Manor one night after work and see what I can find out about group discounts.

I've been to something similar a couple of times with another forum that do it on an annual basis. If I remember rightly, a two night stay with full admission to rides and the water park for three days was about 100 which is bloody good if you consider what you're getting...but that was at Alton Towers, not Drayton Manor (and it was people sharing in rooms)...and it was three days and two nights rather than a day and a night...if that makes sense.

People who are interested, PM me so I've got a vague idea if this is worth me looking in to and I'll get some prices...

I won't be able to make either a Winchester or theme park summer meet, since I won't be moving over there until October. sad.gif

I don't know if I'd ever do a theme park meet, anyway. I don't do rollercoasters. At all. I don't care about how safe they are...I still don't like them. dry.gif

I like the sound of a theme park meet, but it depends on how much it'll cost as I'm not sure of my finances from one month to the next. Please could you let me know what sort of price I'd be looking at?
In saying all that, iif there is to be one meet this summer, my preferance is for a Winchester picnic thang.

Cand, I'm sure there's always a Tea Cup ride tongue.gif

I love the idea od alternative meet styles. The thmempark idea sounds cool but when I last went to Thorpe PArk they were charging 25ish a head. Now group booking rates will bring it down but not THAT much!!!
An idea we came up with last year was to have a sort of "picnic" meet. People bring beer, rugs and sandwiches and we all sit out in a field/ park somewhere and get ludicrously drunk and play with frisbees and ice cubes. As long as the weather was on an upward curve we could actually get some decent meeting done and it requires very little money other than train tickes to the place. Being that I am in Surrey I would of course suggest some where in london being that it is the greenest city in the country.
Other options include a booze cruise off to France for the day. French beer is cheaper!!! or maybe even crashing a festival in this country!!!
All fabby ideas which I am of course up for

The only issue I can see with the picnic is that most parks have no alcohol thingimajigies going on.
Generally, so long as money is looking okay and I don't have to worry about time off work I'll be up for anything within easy train ride (max 2 changes and 30 with railcard!) of me!

Most London Parks are of the opinion that as long as you're not getting stupidly drunk and are responsible are ok by them. Many have pubs on site. But then again it is London

Just wanted to add something to this....

I went to Thorpe Park a couple of years ago on my Birthday which was the 6th September, and it was *so* quiet, and we had glorious weather, was even better that we got some cut outs from a newspaper too, so only had to pay half price entry for one! biggrin.gif

I'm not complaining at all as Winchester's a lovely place to get away from it all, but it's about a squillion miles away. As I said, I'm not complaining. I don't post here anywhere near as much as I used to and I haven't been on the last couple of meets. I think the last one I went to was in Nottingham (finally met Jonman and his Mrs...) but Winchester is quite an...erm....un-centralised location...

Ah yes but everyone that went to the last meet said they would be happy to go south this time as most people were actually from around London. Winchester, therefore, is more central for them smile.gif I'm happy to travel down there. I drive so it doesn't matter and I'm sure I can pick people up on the way even? I'll decide when I know what weekend it is.

Alton Towers would be much nearer for me but what with the cost of the ticket and accommodation it'll be cheaper to drive to Winchester and crash at Mata's gaff *looks hopeful*

Can we avoid first two weekends in June as there is a tattoo convention in Amsterdam and Download...both of which I hope to go to smile.gif
