Recently, I've been postcarding like a fiend, thanks to Postcardx.net. I don't know if anyone on here has heard of it, but it has inspired me to ask here if anyone would be interested in postcarding or anything else of the sorts here.

For those of you who don't know what Postcardx is, it's essentially a large database where people put in their addresses and a blurb about themselves. By means of this database, one can either have an address randomly selected from said database, or one can search keywords to find a specific address. I've received postcards from Scotland and Portland, OR (West Coast US) so far. Given our intercontinental pool of forumites, I think it'd be really neat to see postcards or to receive letters from across the pond or from the rest of the world. I was just wondering if anyone here agrees with me...

Not particularly crazy about putting my address on some random website, personally. unsure.gif

People could probably find me if they really wanted to, but I'm not going to give my address to people who don't already know my full name.

I love the idea, but I have to agree with Cand. But have you heard of the website where you post in a confession postcard? It is all anonymous, but they get posted on the net. When I find the URL I will post it.
(no punne intended of course biggrin.gif)
Edit- obviously Nov knows about it already

Yeah, the anonymous confession one is PostSecret. I guess what I was going to get around to is does anyone want to do a postcard swipe with me? I mean, if not, that's totally understandable; I could be a crazed maniac trying to stalk everyone. If you would like to exchange addresses, however... You could PM me so no creepy random guests or stalker people get your address. I give you all my word that I'm not some creepy guy who stalks people and puts pictures of their doormats on his walls. biggrin.gif

I apologise for dragging this thread further off topic, but fans of PostSecret might also like Found Magazine, a website which every day shows a photo or scrap of paper someone, somewhere has found. It's fascinating. I bought the Found book, and I have to say it's awesome; both amusing and heartbreaking.

I pre-ordered the second post-secret book, which was supposed to come out on Valentine's day, but sadly they cancelled it. Once I've got some money again (which won't be for a very long time now, it seems) I'll order the first one.

I'd say yes, but I brought all the postcards I wrote in Germany home in my suitcase after carrying them around for three weeks and will have to go about the embarrassing business of hand-delivering them now as sheepish proof that I didn't entirely forget everyone. So I am pretty poo at postcarding.

Besides, you don't want a postcard from NJ. It's ugly and your eyes would burn out.

I have the PostSecret book, and also the Found Magazine book. Both are very good indeed, and I would highly recommend them.

I'll gladly send you a postcard, Feral. Granted, I don't know you, but it would be a nice occasion to find out if my town has postcards!

(We sell NYC ones at the train station, but I've not checked all the important spots yet, town hall and all that nonsense.)

YAY! I love getting postcards. From anywhere, really. (I was raised in Jersey so I have an immunity to the eye-burning-out-ugliness of the place, artist.unknown. happy.gif) Cand, I'd ADORE receiving a postcard from you, et al. Elphaba: Cool! Mail's always fun (unless it's bills or junk mail. >_<.) If y'all want to know more about me (so it's not like you're mailing a complete stranger), just ask! Making friends is fun! My school doesn't allow IRC on their network so I need to find other ways to get acquainted. I'll pm my address the aforementioned forumites. happy.gif Anyone else care to send me a postcard? *puppy-dog eyes*

Gaaaahhh I'm very lazy. Sorry for the delay, Feral--I'll send it out fosho by Monday.

In other news, my town has no official postcards, so I made my own. It's very shiny.

That's a brilliant idea! Only problem is, being at uni I'm moving around every 6 - 12 months, I'm not really in any one place long enough to be found and postcarded (plus my parents are moving soon too).
Deffinately gonna have a look though!

I would love to exchange snail mail letters with anyone who wants... if my parents wouldn't keep me off the computer for a year and make me change my name. tongue.gif I understand their concern, but perhaps I'll join in on this when I'm in college in two years.
