Ok, Eurovision, its a joke right? I'm a love it hate it fan, its laughable tat and a tad sad but pretty much every year I end up watching a fair portion of it. Its a British past time.

This year's entry for Great Britain is crud. DJ Daz, naff. No doubt. Useless, rubbish and stupid, DJ Daz was only chosen for a catchy chorus and some ladies dressed up school girl outfits... oh hold on, ideal for Eurovision...hmmmm... Anyway, the point is, the GB song is rubbish and should barely be allowed in, let alone get near winning.

However, there is a group aiming to "bring back the balls of rock" to Eurovision. Europe, get ready to get scared! Lordi have their sights on Eurovision!

Hailing from Finland, Lordi want to bring rock back to Eurovision and shake up the competition. Think the looks of Slipknot meets the musical styling of White Snake and Bon Jovi and your almost there. www.Lordi.org

THEY ARE DAMN FUNNY! The song "Hard Rock Hallelujah" is their entry and is just hilarious! It even features zombie/demon cheerleaders in the video! How can they not be voted for.

They've been around for a while, had a hit single with "The Devil is a loser (and he's my bitch)" and apparently cut up slabs of meat on stage. Due to them being chosen, there are supposedly Finnish people up in arms and some even claiming that this is a ploy by the Russians to place Finland in a state if disarray so they can take over in a coup of some kind. Mad!

So, VOTE FINLAND please please please, we can't vote for ourselves and hopefully nobody else will, but we can send a message to Europe on the "day of Rockening"... check em out.

(Mods: I would have added to media but Eurovision is an institution and past time so figured it constituted daily life, it can be shifted if you want though)

It is my not-so-humble opinion that the only good thing about the Eurovision song contest is Terry Wogan. I am against adding anything good that deprives him of the opportunity to slur drunken sarcastic remarks at the rubbish that is currently on stage.

That's exactly my reason for watching it, Terry Wogan. What I don't understand is why any other country would watch it if they don't get Terry Wogan.

Surely not...

Sues is a big Eurovision fan and I have survived watching it for the past few years by drinking beer. It is an approach that has seen me through some bad times (Tatu's ear-blisteringly bad live performance, for example) and made me chuckle along with Terry as he gets increasingly sozzled and mocking during the night, so I intend to stick with it.

I've never placed a bet in my life, but I'm considering seeing what the odds are on Finland. Any band that releases an album called 'The Arockalypse' gets my vote.

According to William Hill's website, Lordi are 26-1

Scarily DJ Daz is 7-1

Hm. That's tempting!

Apparently DJ Daz placed a rather significant bet on himself to be the Eurovision entry. I'm not quite sure what gave him such confidence but he won tens of thousands of pounds from it. I hope he's not betting it all again on winning this year because I suspect he might not get a good return on that one...

He did bring the world the Kung foo fighting remix a few years back, I'd rather not bet for him though.

And you're right Terry Wogan is the god of Eurovision, I think the BBC only keep coverage to let him loose properly once a year wink.gif

We're having a small party at my place (mainly because I refuse to watch that rubbish by myself but Sues loves it) and one of our guests is making Lordi T-shirts with 'The Arockalyspe' written on them smile.gif

WOW. Lordi's performance was SPECTACULAR! An axe for a microphone, the HUGE wings, stupidly awesome platform shoes, fireworks out of the top of the guitars, sooo much more! Boy did they ever earn that win!
What was with the Christmas hat, eh?
How cool would it be if there were more acts like Lordi next year?
Legend!
Hurrah for death metal! Hah, speak of the devil, it comes on the news! laugh.gif

I'd say it was more glam rock than death metal, but muahahahaha! Excellence!
Finland and Lithuania had the best acts of the night.

"We, we, we are the winners of Eurovision. Vote for the winners!" And then that fat bald guy did his breakdance/spasm dance thingy. biggrin.gif

Sheer class.

I wonder if this marks a change in the type of acts that get shown. Will people start taking it less seriously and start actually having fun?

I'm kinda upset that our Ian Huntly lookalike got more than zero points though. sad.gif

I was pretty impressed with Latvia's a cappella song. It was a shame they included that weird robot thing - it kinda spoilt the act.

I only started watching the show from halfway through that song. They actually were pretty good... but yeah, what the hell was that robot thing about?

It was also kinda funny how nearly EVERYONE was wearing white. What. The. Hell?

Lithuania were great! I was torn between them and Lordi!
All the news I've heard refer to it as death metal...

Hahah omg, I forgot he was brandishing his pepsi as he came up to the stage! "Drink Pepsi, endorsed by the anti-christ!"
