I had a try at colouring in the wings and wing design and am gonna have another few designs now to go do. I have to agree with Mata though, I think 10cm wingspan is rather small, not to even include the patterny bit too. Do you gots any henna you could roughly draw it out with to get an idea how at 10cm it would look. Wing design and or colouring might be finnikier the small it gets and that summit you've got to think about for your tattoo. Also I was thinking about how well the tattooist you are going to can do gradients. Like, each bit of wing pattern could be one colour with each one above it being a slightly different colour/ or noticeable. Or if the change in colour would occur in it. If that makes sense.

Anyways, let me know what you think happy.gif

Ohoh, the drawing on the right is the wing design, and the drawing on the right is me practicing using the chalk pastels (haven't used them much, prefer oil) to go through the colours I could remember from our avatar on a wingish design >_>

We'll see about size. It all depends on many factors including cash, time, my pain threshold etc. The prettier it is the bigger it will be!

I'm finally getting a tattoo! I've got my appointment booked for Friday afternoon, 5-7pm. I'm getting a decorative swirly thing based on old wrought iron with a cyber-esque hexagonal pattern overlaid on it. It's a bit hard to explain.

I'm getting it on the left side of my torso. I'm told it's going to hurt like a bast*** while it's being done on my ribs! It's going to be pretty big - starting a few inches below my armpit and ending below my waistline.

Naturally, I'm very excited about this, and a little nervous too, all in all though I think it's about time. There will, of course, be photos when it's done, though it might take a couple of sessions so you might get in-progress shots.

From the sounds of it, you'll definitely be doing that in more than one sitting. While my back piece is pretty big, it is quite simple in terms of shading, and that took over two hours.

That said, I had a different artist doing my re-touch and she went over about 40-50% in under an hour... tongue.gif

Yes, I think it's going to be 4-5 hours in the end. I might as well start wincing now, just to get some practise in before Friday.

FRIDAY!!!!! WHEEEEEE!!!!!

I'm quite excited.

It wouldn't be the first time that's happened...

And yes Cath, it can't be worse than the hair, I hope! Except with the hair I had an enormous amount of pain killers during the operation and on hand for the next two weeks. Even so, that was probably the most painful thing I've experienced.

Oooh... you are just moments away from permanently brandishing artwork upon your flesh! Good luck - we all expect photos, you know, once it doesn't look all scabby and sore and...

... I'm sure you'll be fiiiine biggrin.gif

I still fancy having a tattoo done at some stage, but I have an awful lot of hair on my body so there's not many places to consider as 'suitable canvas' biggrin.gif

Hobbes, you could always get a tattoo of a bear. The hair would only add to the realism!

So.. Mata has lost his tattoo virginity! Woo! Was it more or less painful than you imagined?

Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements - the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and for life - weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So, forget God. The stars died so that you could be here today. ~Lawrence Krauss

(I have just thought of a Tattoo Challenge for myself--I've been farting around going to see the POLAR BEARS which live in my province (!!!) for the better part of a year. So. After I go see polar bears, I'ma get one inked on. I like the idea of a tattoo memorializing an event--isn't that what they were for in Polynesia?)

Already designed.

Yay tattoo!
I've had a design since 2006 that I have really wanted, but have waited for a while to see if I still want it. And I do! And I have eeeeven managed to figure out where I want it (which was one of the main reasons for waiting so long). I want it on my sternum! Although apparently that will really hurt. I figure the tramadol will come in handy.

It usually does. I've got two/three tattoos upcoming, two definite, the third fairly optional, and the need to get my stars colored in so that they're all black rather than green and black. The three I'm getting are all very simple and small as far as tattoos are concerned, so the total bill shouldn't be over $150 - all I need now is $150 to spare, and I'll be all inked out. I also need to figure out placement for the one - it'll just be two letters, 'en', which has its meaning and roots in Geisha/Japanese culture and more or less has to do with a karmic bond to another person and, in a way, explains how you sort of just click with someone or have very close, special friends for a lifetime. I'm hovering around the clavicle area, the neck, the ear, or the side of my elbow. Not sure which.

Chelsey that is amazing. I kinda want it on me now, but not in a way that would last sitting in a tattoo place with a dude with a needle standing next to me.
