I think my favourite part of the story is:-

Oo, zombie pelicans... That would explain quite a lot. If all the birds that had ever lived were now coming back to life and craving flesh then I think we'd have a big problem.

I live right on the river soar in the middle of Leicester, it's full of Swans (and a few Canadian Geese) and them being pandimensional, avian chavs would explain why they always keep me up/wake me up by being noisy. At lleast they don't play R'n'B at full volume from their walkman phone which is totally unable to cope with the bass.
