Wow, it's been a while since I started a topic.
My monitor just went *poof* and I'm pretty sure that it's 'bye bye'. So now I need to buy a new one, I have no idea where to start. I can look on Amazon, Overclockers, whatever but I've no idea what would be good value for money, if there are any brands I should out and out avoid etc. Now you're all clever geeky people and I trust you (and Ste is currently sans internet for at least for however long it takes to get one set up in his new house) so please help. The current, or previous I guess, is a 15" TFT Hansol job that I've had for about 5 or 6 years so I'm not really used to super HD whatever - bare in mind that I'm a student so budget is important but I'm not a complete cheapskate either and I'm prepared to pay for something that will last, however over the hill it may be in another 5 years. -------------------- |

I don't know about brands, but I'd suggest upgrading to a 17" TFT if you can afford it. The extra screen space makes a huge difference to the usability of the machine.

I always find ebuyer to be pretty damn reliable for 'puter parts. Looking at it, much over £120 is paying over the odds for a 17" TFT monitor, which isn't too bad when you consider I paid £250 for my monitor (17" TFT) about 2-3 years ago now. Invariably, you'll do well to read the reviews, most people that leave them tend to know what they're talking about.

I paid about £280 for a nice one about 2-3 years ago too, but the prices have come down a lot since then. *Ponders a dual screen set-up*

Thanks people, definately looking into getting a 17" - I've wanted a bigger monitor for ages.
p@, ebuyer looks like the cheapest out of what I've seen (overclockers, dabs, amazon, play) and (according to John, specs just go over my head) the cheaper ones on there are better than the less cheap ones in other places. :) -------------------- |

I said a cheaper one on there was better than a cheap one on a different website. I also said 15" is too small.

I now have my new monitor (one of these) but I am having major issues installing the drivers so I'm stuck in 1024x786 stretchyness.
Anybody have any ideas to help me? -------------------- |

The trick there would be to go into your display properties, hit the advanced button, and, under the monitor tab, set up a custom monitor according to the refresh rates in the manual.

I bought a new graphics card... apparently that will fix my problems. I'll find out tonight when Ste comes and works his geek voodoo on it. >.<

My monitor did that about a month ago. I've had to settle for a small screened gargantuan peice of machinery that was collecting dust in the garage since the mid 90's.
