I was thinking about this and got to wondering - what toy did you want the very most around this time of year when you were younger? Did you get it? Did it eventually get banned for killing a few kids? (Lawn Darts, Anyone?)

Around the furby craze, I wanted a...you guessed it, a furby. I got one and it went crazy on me, probably scarring me for life. It wouldn't stop even after we took the batteries out, so we had to shut it in a closet... it just kept saying "LOCO LOCO LOCO". *twitches*

And who remembers Sky Dancers?

QUOTE
When spun aloft, the wings—which felt so soft and cushy in the aisles of Toys "R" Us—turned into steely-hard child manglers. In 2000, the CPSC announced that over 150 children fell prey to Sky Dancer's helicopter-blade arms and erratic "Oh-Jesus-it's-chasing-me!" flying patterns. Injuries included scratched corneas and temporary blindness, mild concussions, broken ribs and teeth, and facial lacerations that required stitches. Nearly nine million Sky Dancers were eventually recalled.

Good times.

Any other toys?

I had sky dancers, then my brother sent one into a pedestal fan and the other day my dog chewed the other one up, I was actually surprised it was still around after 12 years.
I really wanted a sticker maker and a craft set both of which I got, the sticker maker ran out of sticky stuff after an hour but I used the craft set to make just short of 650 metres of french knitting which I still have minus a few metres which the dog ate.
This year I'm getting usefull/developmental toys for Trystan like a playnest and toy gymgalt play nest and some soft blocks and stacking cups for when he's older and a wedge mirror to encourage him to lift his head which eventually helps his brain to develop more and makes him stronger for crawling

I remember having those tamagotchi (if thats how you spell it) toys. The little electronic thing where you had a pet and then you had to feed it, and play with it, and you basically looked after it, but if you left it at home for the day then it died and you had to re-start your tamagotchi.

I remember instructing my mum on how to feed it so it wouldn't die while I was at school.

My favourite toys as a nipper were Action Force!
They where the British/European version of GI Joes and they were awsome!

Hell, I still think I'm Snake-eyes!

Also used to love M.A.S.K, but even then, I wanted to bop Scott Tracker on the nose and stick T-Bob in to a car crusher!!!

biggrin.gif Me too! Wow I had complelty forgotten about those things. Mine went on "bad hair day" and stayed there for like a week. It was...interesting.

Also, the lil' sticky things that you would throw at the wall/furniture/sibling to see if it stuck. The best part was trying peel it off of the new wall paper before your mother saw...

I remember getting a Tracy Island...either for chirstmas or birthday. It rocked, it didn't have any of the voice things you get on the new fangled ones these days, it was proper old school. It even came with a model of Thunderbirds 1-4 and FAB1. The palm trees got broken off and I think it's either been thrown away now or put into loft oblivion...

I remeber wanting a manicure set I have no idea to this day why I wanted it but I got it and probably got bored with it after 10 mins. The fav toy I got rhat I remeber fondly was a pull a long train from Tuppuleware with wobbly wheels and you could take to bit's and put back together. I also got the Dolls house and the Sindy over the years and Lego lots of Lego which I actually still have cause Lego rocks. biggrin.gif

Boglins, Polly Pocket, Playmobil, Thomas The Tank Engine die-cast models and Postman Pat on the Atari were my weapons of choice favourite toys. I also used to love my Chemistry set (when I was a bit older) and my video microscope.

No, I'm not being sarcastic. Heh.

Anybody else old enough to remember tinker toys? wooden sticks the size of straws and round wooden wheels that had holes in them. You could use them to build stuff. Probably pulled off the market because you could also damage yourself/a sibling by poking them into an eye/ear/nose.
Pick up sticks were also dangerously wooden and pokey.
The new lawn darts are no where near as interesting as the old pointy, sharp ones. They're this weird mutant mushroom sort of thing. Odd looking.

I had two out of those three things growing up, but my favorites were plastic sports equipment. We played a game when I was small called Siege, and basically we laid siege to whoever was unlucky enough to be in the playhouse at the time. Yellow plastic baseball bats, golf clubs, etc were stockpiled as weapons--if the game went on long enough we would even send out covert ops to try and sneak in the hose, and maybe some food. It got pretty sophisticated, and usually people wound up seriously injured. I lost about three teeth to Siege.

Oh, and I also liked Barbies.

Oh my gosh! Tamagatchi (or whatever the spelling)!!! I used to have one of those and a DigiPet too. smile.gif

Hmm, I used to be quite fond of those Creepy Crawlers oven things. You put this gel into a mold and "bake" it for a bit and it became a rubbery insect or arachnid. happy.gif Fun times. K'Nex and MarbleWorks were popular gifts in our family too.

I remember begging and whining for a Tamagotchi only to drop it in the toilet hours after getting one.

I didn't get another one.

Yeah, we had a "Tamagotchi jail" at my elementary school. And believe me, there was more than one kid who cried.

And I remember being able to be entertained by Barbies for an hour straight. I had the barbie kitchen, dream bedroom and dream mansion.

Christmas shopping for your friends was so much easier then: all you had to do was walk down the one or two toys aisles and grab something. Your parents paid too!

Computer boxes in the days when an Apple Macs used to come in such huge boxes that you could create a whole fortress from them. As my dad worked with computers a lot, we always used to have lots and some of my best days were spent in a box (or many taped together).

It was only today that I was reminded of how much polystryene I used to play with. I don't know why we had so much of it actually. I think it was because my dad used to get lots of things from the RS catalogue (aah! another great memory) and things from there often come in polystyrene. Oh and those little S-shaped foams for packaging too.

The S-Shaped Foam Packy Stuff!!

Ahh, when my parents had a pharmacy, it had cellars full of boxes and bubble wrap and foam packy stuff. Some of the boxes were a good 6 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet, so you could play hide and seek in there really well. Or just climb into boxes filled with foam packy stuff. And then struggle to get out, tip over the box and crawl out.

My Little Ponies. I had about a million of them.

Strawberry Shortcake dolls....they smelled so yummy. I have some lipgloss now that smells just like my Strawberry Shortcake doll did. It took me about an hour to figure out why the smell was so familiar after I first got it.

Rainbow Brite, Lady Lovely Locks, Care Bears...

This is Cand, by the way. Just realized I was logged into moop's account after typing all that. unsure.gif
