So, I was thinking. There should be a Matameet in Derby at some point. Why, you ask, would anyone want to come to Derby? (moop said "cause we've got lions!" but I am not going to lie to you nice people -- we don't)

Well, we had Nottingham meets before, and they went rather well. They were cheap, cause people had floor for others to sleep on. moop and I have a rather large house, so we could do a similar thing there. And and and if you book early enough, train fares to Derby are insanely cheap (especially from London...if you have a railcard a single can cost 3.95 depending on the time of day you're traveling).

But most of all -- I am going stir crazy already. I won't be allowed to work until probably May at the earliest. So I know all of you want to come and see me sometime, don't you? (maybe in April?) Hmm, what's the closest emoticon to puppy dog eyes? wacko.gif ...that'll do. biggrin.gif

I'll come!! I don't know when my exams will be yet but probably not until May so April should be good, also it will be Easter hols around the beginning of April for people influenced by school holidays etc... unless that is eating into your honeymoon time? Maybe you should go on honeymoon after Easter because it'll be cheaper not in school hols!

Summary: YAY!

We're going on Easter weekend, which means we're booking rather soon. Mostly because Ste gets that Monday off from work so he won't have to use too many vacation days. So mid to late April would obviously be better...or maybe early to mid March (we're getting married the last week of March, though, so that's out)

I will come, I will come! As long as you make me thanksgiving food. For every meal.

I will bring you housewarming-Jam and lemoncurd. And you shall call it Jam (the jam, not the lemoncurd as that is lemoncurd). And I will bring you a jelly, just to make it ok.

Heh, look what you have let yourself in for.

You still owe me those cookies, so I'm coming. Don't even think about locking the doors, I can climb! With my hands and my feets! TREMBLE AS I SCALE THINGS.

JERUSALEM, Israel (AP) - In response to Israel's denial of water to the West Bank, HAMAS released three cheetahs in West Jerusalem, where they went on a killing spree, mauling four Jews and injuring thirteen.

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) - Following a cheetah attack on West Jerusalem perpetrated by the majority HAMAS party, the Israeli Air Force retaliated by detonating twenty kiloton nuclear devices over Gaza City, Jenin, Nablus, Rafah, and Ramallah.

ASHDOD, Israel (AP) - As a result of the atomic bombings of five Palestinian cities, a 50-foot tall reptile has woken from its million-year slumber in the Mediterranean Sea. The monster has made landfall at Ashdod and obliterated the city. Eyewitnesses report that the monster left the destroyed city heading southeast.

Yay! You are all three officially cool kids. biggrin.gif

Daria - I will make you Thanksgiving food, but you will have to act fast if you want stuffing. moops are stuffing fiends! (I made some tonight and he started stealing it before I'd even cooked it blink.gif ) I have some pumpkin in the freezer, so maybe I can find a pumpkin bread recipe that will actually be yummy this time...

Esteban - you will not have to scale anything unless I get bored! And I will make you cookies, even though I don't remember why I owe you any!

I'm not cool enough to come all the way to England but I can provide pumpkin recipe. tongue.gif

Spicy Pumpkin Muffins or Loaf

2 eggs
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup veg. oil
1 cup canned pumpkin ( I find real mashed worked just fine )
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt (can omit if you like)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup raisins (can omit if you don't like them or substitute chocolate chips mmmm chocolate)
1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts or again feel free to leave 'em out)

for the Muffins: bake at 375 degrees fahrenheit for 18-20 minutes
for the Loaf: bake at 325 degrees for 70 minutes in a 9x5 pan.
buttering the pan makes it easier to remove the baking post oven.

Sorry the baking instructions are in imperial measurements but that's how baking is measured in Canada. Kisah was very helpful in translating last time. Mayhap PM the lovely Mrs. Jonman again?

Sounding cool. Matt and I will definitely be up for it so long as we have somewhere to stay. My birthday is the 11th of March so that weekend is either non stop party or completely out depending on what people want to do but other than that I'm cool

Ashbless - Oho, thank you for the recipe! I brought my measuring cups over, so no need to convert anything.

Cath - Yep, you're already a cool kid...and this time you'll be even cooler because you know where to turn off of the main road tongue.gif

Ryn - There's plenty of room, so you'll have somewhere to stay.

I could possibly maybe come. Not committing though. Derby is really near to me, so it's easy to get to, so it's definitely a possibility.

A meet outside of London, that costs less than a travelcard to get to? Sounds good to me. What's in Derby- any nice foody places/ pubs?

If you go to Derby you most certainly eat at the Vines pub. Cheap as almighty, huge and lovely meals, nice setting.

Mind you, that's only if you book far enough in advance. If you leave it too long, it goes up quite a bit. And on that route ("that" route being St Pancras to Derby) I've found that 2 singles are almost always cheaper.

As far as pubs...never been to the Vines, but judging by the map it's fairly close to where we live. moop and I seem to always end up at Higgs whenever we go out to eat, so we should really explore other options! moop has been to the Brunswick with worky people and I think he said that it's good, but I don't know how expensive it is. We shall investigate further!

Anyone have any preferences for specific dates at all? And CM, do you have a preference about being surprised when we kidnap you, or do you want to see us so there can be a dramatic chase scene? tongue.gif

As long as I know roughly when you're gonna do it, you can suprise me all you want. Just so long as I have time to grab a rucksack with stuff in.

Hi all. What about w/e 14-15th April. It's my 31st birthday and I'm looking for something interesting to do. Could go out on the Saturday and party until wee hours into my birthday!

I used to spend most w/e in Derby as my ex boyfriend went to Uni there. It always seemed to be raining! sad.gif

Anyway, I'm flexible really. Whatever weekend is good. We seem to be having a theme of Spring Northern Breaks biggrin.gif

The 14th-15th would probably work for us. It is my birthday on the 10th, but we will be riding on a train back from Scotland much of that day and probably won't do anything for it. So we could have a joint birthday thingy thing that weekend! biggrin.gif

PS: welcome back Pixie! smile.gif
