We had crumpet-pizzas and a nice bottle of wine, and I made Sues her card. I feel we did a good job of avoiding excessive consumption!

We don't really do Valentine's day. Aside from saying "Happy Wednesday!" or "Happy overcommercialized fake love day!" to one another. Neither of us have ever particularly liked it, plus moop's birthday is just 4 days after it. After we're married...we'll have his birthday in February, our anniversary in March, and my birthday in April. That's quite enough holidays in a row without adding another! tongue.gif

Although this year, I did give moop an onion. He gave me a picture of his phone that had "hay im braekin up w/u!!11" written on it as a text message (mostly due to our recent amusement after watching "text message breakup" on youtube). Hallmark made nothing on us. biggrin.gif

I was given a single stemmed rose (made from Lego) and I bought him and I gig tickets for March. And a home made card. We went with friends to see a show my sister was Stage Managing because it was one of their birthdays. We went back to his house for champagne and chips and then went home. It was an awesome day biggrin.gif

I never understood why people were so anti-valenine's day. People will try to make money out of anything, it's how capitalism works. The point is not to bitch and moan about Hallmark or whatever using an excess of red ink, it's merely an excuse to make an extra special effort for that special someone in your life. Yes you love that person all year round, but most people are so busy, it's nice to have an annual kick up the arse to get people to make the effort to show it.

*Hands you one and smiles sweetly*

I rather liked Valentines Day this year. Me and my boyfriend had it one day earklier bacause we had that day off of college, it was so awesome.

On the actual valentines day, me and my friends sat in the canteen at college sharing one box of chocolates that someone had brought in for us all, while playing cards. We all said happy valentines day to everyone we saw, and was just happy in general. And thats what valentines day should be about, sharing and being happy and letting people know that they're loved.

Some people (i.e. me) like to take the opposite approach and just completely ignore its existance.

Well, I don't think I need an excuse or a kick anywhere to make an extra special effort. It just doesn't strike me as being as genuine if someone is doing something romantic for me because they feel obligated to on a certain day of the year. It's fine for people who like the holiday...I don't care if they celebrate it. More power to them if they enjoy it. But to me it just doesn't ring as true as something spontaneous.

Plus I'm just not really a hearts and flowers kind of girl.

I feel quite sorry for Saint Valentine. So much debate surrounding his day. >.>

I agree. Some people do love their partners but feel awkward blabbing about it except on a day when it's "socially acceptable". If you don't like it don't celebrate it but honestly it's just one day and if my boyfriend feels the need to show me extra love (and vica versa) I ain't gonna' complain about that!! We had a quiet one this year as we were off to Amsterdam the next day so that was a kind of present to each other. Having said that I bought him lots of his favourite munchies to take with him and he bought me a heart shaped luggage tag for my bag so it was all very sweet, cheap and romantic. I love him all the time and he knows that as I always tell him and I see nothing wrong with telling him extra that day smile.gif

I buy flowers several times a year for Sues, whenever I fancy doing it. No occasions, no special days or particular messages. I know some people who have never been bought flowers by a partner, and I think that's a shame...

Anyway, the point of this story was that Valentines Day is when Sues tells me not to buy her flowers. She says they're way overpriced and it's nicer to spend the money on other things (which usually means a nice bottle of wine that we drink together).
