I got my first tattoo the other day! XD
What do you all think? tongue.gif

I was considering at a later date getting the same one tattooed on the other shoulder....

(Oh yeah, and I dyed my hair last week too happy.gif It's Tropical Green, Atlantic Blue and Purple! I ran out of space towards the bottom for purple, laugh.gif )

It's very unique. I've never seen that in ink before. I like it, both the tattoo and the color of your hair. What made you decide on that?

[color=purple] That looks awesome! Did you plan for the color of the snowflake to match your hair?

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for a fair while now. I stumbled across the idea of a snowflake in my first year of uni because, as Mr Fuzzy so wonderfuly puts it, I'm "mental for snow". All winter I wait for snow! It's my favourite weather, my favourite time of year, effing beautiful, close up and from a distance, it has good memories for me, and it's just magical tongue.gif Plus I like how in theory every snowflake is unique.

I likes it. One question. If/when you get the other one, will it be the exact same snowflake (for symmetry) or will it be a different snowflake (because all snowflakes are different?)

It's a good question! I had been thinking of getting the same one for symmetry, but a different one is a good idea!
I was actually kind of tempted by what my friend Dan said, jokingly, about getting lots of snowflakes and looking like a snowglobe! (Then he'd shake me, and make me get something like Winchester Cathederal tattooed to properly look like a snowglobe, lmao).

Get white tattoos instead - all the prettiness with only a portion of the bloodshed (plus you get better lines). Finding someone good enough to do white-ink only tattoos is rather tricky though.

Or with just black light sensitive ink those are cool. My friend has a biohazard symbol on his arm in that kind of ink.

Cool tat by the way. I also wanted to share a random fact that I learned today. Apparently if you zoom in on the end of a snowflake with a microscope the crystals forming the snowflake form the same pattern that the actual snowflake makes. Then if you zoom in on the tip of that one, same thing. I thought that was cool.

I like the idea of a snowstorm across your back. I've seen some cool stuff... one of them was a girl with lotus blossoms across her back. It was very cool. Saw another with autumn leaves. Also cool. Even saw one with bubbles. A little weird, but still cool.

Rock on, yo. Rock on.

The last I heard, a few years ago, no-one was sure whether that ink was toxic to the skin. The long-term effects of that stuff are subject to a lot of debate, so I'd personally steer clear for the moment... Still, it's an appropriate choice of design!

Yep, snowflakes are fractal. I find fractal stuff very weird: how do all the bits of water in the snowflake know what they're supposed to be doing?

On the subject of tattoos, I saw a very cool one in a tattooist's catalogue in America (Black Rose Tattoo in San Francisco) where a lady had found a piece of lace that she really liked then had the pattern tattooed on her back! It looked superb, mainly because lace is designed to have a perfect balance between opaque and clear, so the pattern looked beautiful on skin.

The problem with white tattoos is that the ink fades quickly. I was looking into having one in the past and was advised against it for that reason.

Very nice smile.gif I think I remember you posting about getting a snowflake a while ago? I'm a big fan of tattoos. I'd steer clear of white and UV ink though as they aren't the best medium and the later hasn't been proven not to damage the skin as yet.

I'm getting my next one in May biggrin.gif

I wonder how far down the line the fractals go? Whether they stop at molecular level or whether all the little quarks line up too?
