Alrighty boys and girls, I am looking for a hangover cure.

Now, this isn't just a headache. In fact, I don't even have a headache. This is one of those hangovers where your body just feels like crap, you have lumps of whatever you ate (and then regurgitated) still stuck in your teeth, you're sat there forcing yourself to drink water but are having difficulty as you think it may just reappear in a few seconds, and you only got less than four hours sleep.

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to my Friday morning.

So. I have the ability to make pancakes, I have orange juice, I don't drink milk and I (above all else) am NOT willing to drink any alcohol today. And I can't take a hot shower until I go put more money on the gas card. What are your suggestions for helping me survive the day? What do you do to make yourself feel good after half killing your liver the night before?

Once we've sorted my hangover, we can move to my vaguely dislocated shoulder. But one thing at a time, chaps. One thing at a time.

Ok, first off, brush your teeth.
Secondly, eat something, something sweet, with fruit in, bananas for preference (they're magic and don't try to tell me otherwise). Milk would be helpful, but you have to be awkward...or lactose intolerant...or something. Anyway, once you have a full belly, if you feel up to putting money on the gas card, a shower always helps. The ultimate goal here to go back to bed feeling as nice as possible, do you bed sheets smell at all bad?

Anyway, yes, sleeeeep.

I'm working until 4:30, then have to go meet a friend at Victoria bus station. Then I'm going to a gig. Then I'm going to a music festival early tomorrow morning >_<

The sheets smell ok, just that I have to sort out the litter tray- the cats all decided to use the one in our room and not the one in the downstairs hallway.
Thank you for your advice smile.gif

Go for a nice big poo. Always makes me feel better. As does a nice fry-up. And the yeah, re-hydrating yourself. Kiwis have alot of vitamin C.

Do get a nap in if you can wink.gif

For hangovers--cranberry/orange juice with seltzer. Put a big splash of each of the juices in and then a bit of seltzer at the top. It is a super vit-C drink that will cure all ails (though I believe it's a bit too late for Daria)

Hehe, thank you Elphaba. In the end, I just felt like crap and had no sleep. Then I got up at 6am (after going to bed at 2am on Friday) and went to a music festival and by 2pm I was drinking again so my hangover couldn't have had THAT much of an impact on me. Usually, to combat hangovers, I drink a lot of water before sleeping. My problem on Friday morning was that I passed out in bed.

This thread, I hope, will point out three things:
- I never learn
- The binge drinking society of England
- That drinking isn't cool. Well, it is. Hangovers aren't cool.

I turn into a hedgehog and have milk and bread the next morning. Works, strangely enough.

Failing that, you could try fruit juice with ice cubs. Works. Sorta.

I don't see the appeal of fry-ups. Greasy food makes me want to throw up no matter if I have a hangover or not. sad.gif

Gatorade. Hands down the best cure for a hangover I've ever seen. It works every time for me.

I'd reccomend the dark blue/purple flavor the most. For some reason I have a hard time drinking the red stuff hungover.

Note, I mean this about Gatorade. Not Powerade. Powerade sucks and makes everything worse.

If you have access to it, drink pedialyte. Tastes like crap, but really helps rehydrate you, and has slightly less carbs than gatorade. A couple of my coworkers swear by it.

Four ibuprofen tablets and eating anything that will prevent them rotting my stomach. Don't do it regularly, because of the medication not being good for your stomach lining in that dosage, but it does the job. Ibuprofen helps body cells absorb water more efficiently (most headaches are caused by dehydration, which is why it works on them). This is the cause of most hang-over problems, so a big dose of ibuprofen does the job.

Personally I like a fried egg sandwich if the hangover isn't too bad - fat and carbs seem to help my body stabilise.

Things Daria has done whilst being hungover:
- Gone to a job interview
- Started said job (first day)
- Been at work (same job)

She has also fallen asleep at her desk (front desk, whilst she was a receptionist) because of being out the night before.

Why I still have a job, I don't know.

Gatorade.

I don't think we have that here. I am pretty sure it would make me feel worse if I had a hangover, anyway, because I hate it.

My favorite thing to have during a hangover is lots of very cold water and a cheese and onion sandwich. It has to be on smooshy white bread with lots of mayo. I'm not sure why that works for me, or how I originally figured it out, but it always manages to settle my stomach.

Oh my god, that would make me vomit while vomiting. Super-ultra-vomiting. It is clear that we have very different saturday-morning styles.

Yeurgh, cheese and onions and mayo...

Then again, I've never been able to eat anything especially greasy when hungover--the closest I've come is waffles.

*suddenly wants waffles despite lack of hangover*

I know, it makes no sense! The ones you get in shops are normally a bit too much for me -- they really like to slather on the mayo. It's basically mayonnaise on bread with a little bit of cheese and onion. But give me a bunch of drinks the night before and it's suddenly all I want. unsure.gif

Chocolate milkshake!

I don't know why, but it hits the spot for me every time. Lots of sugar, I suppose. And then meat and bread!

I went to my last ever exam with a terrible hangover. It was the only time I've had a hangover for an exam. The module was being marked on the average of a coursework essay and a written exam, both worth equal points. Between 60 and 69 would mean I get a 2:1, 70 and over would get a 1st (the best grade).

My essay had got me 62, and usually in exams I got around 68. Somehow I got a first for that exam with 72 points. This meant that I must have scored 82 in my exam, which is completely beyond any other score I got in my entire academic career. Maybe I should have been hungover for more exams (or perhaps Shakespeare and splitting headaches go really well together).

I used to be able to say that when I wasn't legal to drink either, even though I think I drank more then than I do now! It ended rather spectacularly with the cat bowl incident (took a wrong turn and threw up in the cat's food bowl rather than the toilet). Enjoy it while you can, mister, cause it may not last. tongue.gif

It's a scientific fact (there's no REAL evidence...) that hangovers get worse as your body gets older. I think there's a bliss period between 18-21 where a hangover cannot touch you, and then BAM! 22!

Spoony, I'm sure a bottle of 'real absinthe would push you into horrible hangover zone tongue.gif NB: I'm joking, I would never in any seriousness suggest anyone drink more than two shots of that stuff let alone an entire bottle after a night a couple of years ago where I honestly crawled home and was grateful the apartment I was staying in had a bidae next to the toilet -if you know what I mean. I felt suicidal at one point and pretty much below zero the rest of the time. And the next day I still felt like shite (I think the use of the word is appropriate to this here post) thought I tried out all my hangover cures. So to say, Spoony, I'd reckon it would give you a hangover and then some, but it's prolly not worth driking so much to find out.
