Not many of you will know (because it depessed me to much to say) but yet another job went to hell in a hand basket less than a month ago and just to add to the fun it's left me in a worse position finanial then ever...yay......fun.....woohoo...... :s

But anyway I'm really fed up of this and have just been spamming CV to alsort of random jobs which ended up leading me to an advert for one of the nation driving schools (see where this is going yet) So I rang them up just to ask how much the driving instructor course would cost (which they wouldn't tell me) and booked me an appointment with the local Instructors College. So now it look's like I going to be come a driving instructor.

This might seem a little random but it does actually make sence. I've been looking at school technitians job for a few years now and even went as far as filling in a application for teacher trainning (my previous employer couldn't be bothered filling in the referance so that fell by the way side) but the idea of teaching a whole group gave me the fear, but I've been randomly teaching people to do technicial things on and off for years and do enjoy it. Also I enjoy driving so it does actually add up. Plus I have the benifit of being female (big demand for females instructors) and I would pretty much be self employed but with pretty much garenteed work (I'd join a driving school but that's just being a franchies rather than employed by them).

Sooo this seem's to be where I'm going now and it feel very promising and I'm pretty excited by it. biggrin.gif

Oo, intriguing. I guess it's one of those jobs that a lot of people end up in fairly randomly, but you're right about there being a demand for female instructors.

'Sorry to hear that your last job went AWOL. You've had about as much luck as I've had recently. My new one is turning out to be really good, so let's hope that's an omen for your new direction being excellent too!

I was talking to a female taxi driver yesterday and apparently she gets loads of work because of her gender too. Being in a car with someone is pretty close physical proximity: I can easily see why some people would prefer a woman in that situation.

Congrats on finding a new career!

Sues was plannning on learning soon... But I suspect we could probably find a closer teacher!

Tips: try not to dress like a pirate too often while teaching, and don't give your directions with port and starboard.

OH DEAR LORD SHE TEACHING PEOPLE TO DRIVE?! RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!! laugh.gif

Only joking. I really hope it works out for ya. I thought about it then remembered I have neither the patience or the time (at present) to become an instructor. I can just imagine the conversation I'd have when they did something wrong

"What the %^&* do you think your $%^&ing doing?!?!? I SAID RIGHT!!!!"

Congratumalations biggrin.gif You'll love it. And will be a totally awesome teacher.

Because we have been told since we were small children that the oil would have run out by 2005 and so we figured there wasn't much point.

(Also possibly because the idea of any of us in charge of several tonnes of metal travelling at high speeds sounds like the subject for public health warnings.)

EDIT: I guess this makes you 'Cath in wheels' biggrin.gif

I can so drive. Just the driving test examiners don't appreciate that. Maybe it was the nearly killing us both that made them think that. Who knows?

Why can no-one on matazone drive?

I just came back in from some god-awful driving and this thread was ridiculous to go through. I totally blame matazone for my lack of driving skillz. It's been a year and a half that I have sat on this permit thing.

/test is in ten days ahh!

nice one cath for becoming a driving instructor! That is one job you can totally rock at, I'm sure. Driving instructors are great if they are a little weird and good with teenagers, and from what I can tell you're good at both.

Totally random I know, but back when I was noobish, I remember Jaq (I think) posting a thread fretting about her driving test, and posting a list of what she needed to do, and then everyone giving her advice or similar. Or am I just making that up?
