I'll be live in house keeping/ nannying with time off for other work. Moving in at the start of next week. I'm excited XD Anyone have any useful advice, or tips about living with a family and such? If you've nannied/ house kept or had a nanny/ house keeper. I'd be grateful.

Ooo, interesting. What do you have to do? Keep the place tidy and look after the kids? Does that mean you have no rent to pay either?

My only advice would be this:
Make SURE that there is a list of things you are expected to do in the house and with the children- and preferably when you're expected to do them. It is very easy for an employer in this situation to say something like "You don't do enough" or "You didn't do [such and such]" if they think you know but you don't know. Also, you're employed as a nanny: if they start getting you to do specific jobs that seem outside of the job description, then update the description and make sure you're both happy with how it's working.

So, didn't actually move, plans changed due to guests for a party staying in the room for a few days. But I was there for a couple of days and did poop loads of cleaning and it went well. No rent, no bills, apart from when I call 09 sex numbers, I guess?

Look after the younger ones too. The older three are big enough to be left unsupervised. This time next week I should be mostly be moved in. Will give an update then >_ >

The only advice I can give you concerns kids, but you may already know this. They're a lot more likely to respond to you saying something like "I'd really appreciate it if you'd stop running in the house." instead of "STOP RUNNING YOU LIL' S***"
Who knew, right? tongue.gif

Joking aside, It's good to hear you've found such a good postion. No rent sounds pretty nice to meee.

I find silly threats work well with small children: 'stop running or I'll tie your legs around yor head.' 'Don't do that or I'll disembowel you with a spork.'

'I am a witch and I will eat your eyes' is what I tell the little jerks at my job who like to jump on flowers and rip pages out of books. I say it with a big smile and their parents always, always laugh. Their kids never do--they know I'm serious.

Congrats on the jawb, frog! Nannying is hard and sometimes annoying but also super rewarding and awesome--I nannied a four-year old 5 days a week one summer and all I really remember was how awesome it was when she actually got stuff out of hanging out with me all day (new things she learned, etc).

Love the threats, you can also start thelies erm facts aspect to calm them "No no, when the ice cream truck plays music it means there's nothing left and it's calling out to it's mates who wont be there for a day or two".

Well done Frogster good to see jobs are available at the mo. One month down and I'm still beedy eyeing the vacancies. Sounds like great fun, hope you're enjoying it. Top notch!

Speaking as a parent... Actually, I've nothing more to add. I don't have any tips, I just play it by ear and hope I don't mess up too badly.

It gets really hard to keep the little mites in line when they get comfortable with you. Like, if they're jumping on the sofa, I'll say something like, "I'd prefer it if you didn't jump on the sofa, guys." And one of them will reply "Well, we'd prefer to keep doing it!" So then I say "Please stop doing that, you might break it." And they ignore me and carry on. "Don't do that, you might fall and hurt yourself." "So? It's our choice!" Blimey! So then I shout "PACK THAT IN OR I'LL SIT ON YOU!!" And they all laugh and say "Oh no, dad's gonna sit on us!" and "Sit on him! Sit on him! Go on!!" So then I sit on one of them and they all roll about laughing, but they stop jumping on the sofa. So my advice is to sit on them. I think unsure.gif

Of course tumbles will happen, but a good nanny makes safety a priority both at home and when she and your child are out and about.
She'll hold your child's hand when they cross a street on the way to the park, keep a close eye on him in the backyard, and keep the
safety gate to the kitchen closed at all times. If she drives your child, you'll want to ride with her yourself at least once or twice to see
what she's like on the road. Make sure her car is well maintained and that she always buckles up your child in the car seat.

So, I just made a FML submission that went kinda like this:

Today I took a call from a nannying agency asking to speak to the lady of the house. Last night that lady of the house told me I'd be out of my live in nannying/ house keeping job in a month because there wasn't enough work for me. But if there ever was I'd be the first person they contact. FML

Could be worse, I could just have a week. Right?
