Just saw District 9 in theatre. I'd highly recommend it. Very good film. They make good use of the 1st person viewpoint that's been used in Cloverfield and Quarantine but with less of the annoying running while filming. It's Peter Jackson producing if that means anything to you. Don't recognize the stars which isn't a bad thing either. Lets you focus more on the story and less on who's acting in it.

Harry Potter was two and a half hours of exposition. It was like the writer was watching the real film and getting actors to summarise each scene into the fewest words possible.
Example 1 HP - 'Hello girl-who-was-attacked' Girl - 'I know what you're going to ask, I don't know who attacked me.' HP - 'Bye then!' Example 2 Dumbledore - ' ' (he doesn't say anything in the scene, instead he just gestures towards the pensive - the writer was especially happy if he could avoid anyone actually having to speak). -------------------- Trouble Down Pit: Still updated every Monday and Friday

I quite enjoyed Harry Potter honestly, even if it was just preparing for the 7th. Perhaps it was just because Surbiton Station was used (which is obviously really exciting).
Bruno was hilarious. The Ugly Truth, although it looks really rubbish, was a lot better than expected and is quite fun. Coco before Chanel was ridiculously bad. It's trying to make a sentimental, deep, thought-provoking movie out of nothing really. It's a painfully shallow, uninteresting series of events, topped with fake emotions and a poor soundtrack. The Final Destination in 3D... I remain unconvinced by this 3D method. It's still too laggy to handle rapid movement, and it takes some serious eyestrain to see the big-thing-poking-out-of-the-screen moments properly.

Well, I saw "Inglourious Basterds" last night. I thought it was awesome
 I have seen a few Tarantino films and found the quality to differ quite a lot. But I really enjoyed this film. Heartily recommend it

It's typical - I lived next door to a cinema for a year and there was nothing worthwhile on. I move away and cinema output takes a distinct swing upwards. There have been a lot more films that appeal to me in the last year than in the years before. I'm just sad that I missed seeing Crank 2 on the big screen! (Awesomely silly film, make sure you watch Crank 1 first!)

I am a little excited at the Sherlock Holmes film, the trailer looks very action film-y but I assume that's only to get the crowds in, I hope so at least.

I watched Inglourious Basterds the other day. Sometimes graphic, occasionally OTT but wonderfully silly. Brad Pitt trying to speak Italian with a hick accent was comedy gold! I was a mite concerned about the subtitles, but they weren't obtrusive. In fact, I found the use of different languages was worked well into the story. It's not just the best film I've seen this year, it's the best I've seen in a long while.
Conversely, the biggest waste of time film I've seen is the new Harry Potter one. People who've read the book tell me it missed out huge chunks. As someone who hasn't, I can well believe it. Two and a half hours I sat in the theatre, watching the main characters get all lovelorn and moody, and for about fourteen seconds of action, a somewhat expected twist, and nothing else! They could've made that film in five minutes and got much the same level of information across. I concur about the Harry Potter, which is a shame because it's probably the strongest of the books.
The Sherlock Holmes film could be interesting. He is quite an adventurous charcater in the stories: he is a skilled martial artist as well as being a genius detective, so it makes sense for the film to have action and fight scenes, although I'm sure it will horrify people who only know about his skills of deductive reasoning. -------------------- Trouble Down Pit: Still updated every Monday and Friday

It's not that extreme, but Holmes in the stories is an energetic man who is perfectly capable of stepping into a boxing pit and holding his own. That side of him is rarely played in the TV and film versions of the character, so I'm quite looking forward to a more action-based portrayal.
