Maybe To-ell, rhymes with Noel. But that's just stupid.

"Pass me that toell."
"The what?"
"Toell, toell, you know."
"...Ninny."

well where i live i don't think we pronounce the W...it is said with the same O sound but the W is replaced with L...so if you say towel the normal way (TOW-el) ...use the same O but add the L and it's kinda like (TOel)...so i guess instead of two syllables we make it one syllable...we probably do say the W but it is run in there so quickly to make the word one syllable that you don't even hear it and it just magically disappears.

From a phonetic point of view, it is possible to pronounce 'towel' without a 'w'

The diphthong - a combination of two vowels - present in some people's pronunciation of the word sounds so like an actual 'w' as to make no difference.

Essentially, if you are pronouncing it as two syllables - 'tow-ul', or similar - you are pronouncing the 'w'. If it is monosyllablic, then you are sounding a diphthong.

I have a BA in this shit. Fear me.
