Sorry Furry, username and email have nothing to do with IP addresses.

However, if you know the IP, and want to know who/where it is registered to you may find the following link handy.

okie, basically, i am in the middle of a flame war...somewhere else....and I need to find this guys IP, so I can trace and do some damage, the only email I have for him is a yahoo addy.

It started as lighthearted flaming on this list dedicated to flaming, and he over stepped the boundries...but not to worry, a friend of mine will be taking care of it for me. I just thought his employer might lke to know what he does at work all day....

Ah. You may not be able to get much joy even if you do find an IP for him, since most people still have dynamically allocated IP addresses. That said, if he is doing it from work he should stay on the same one all the time.

If you contact him using Yahoo you should be able to get his IP by using a packet sniffer to see where the data you send him is addressed.

*sigh*

Don't bother even TRYING to be malicious if you don't have the skill, this is something that really annoys me.

You can't accuire an IP address from a yahoo email account because it works from a server and is never localy accessed (unless you have access to yahoo emails backend, which i doubt you do)

Basically

Don't even go there, if you have to ask, you should not bother.

Hmm. I was under the impression that while in a chat session things became a little more traceable.
When it comes to incoming emails there are of course the headers to have a peek at... But yes, is it really worth bothering? Ignoring people saves on energy.

Well the theory is sound, but if yahoo chat uses a Java style interface and connects to that chat client THROUGH the yahoo server then the client will not be traceable (again unless you have access to Yahoos back end) if it is something like Mirc then you just do a lookup on the host name.

Hey! I've only got thirteen books about Flash/Web design (and two on order)! In my defence I did help write one of them!

Okay, so I'm a tiny bit of a geek about my own field... Just a little bit... You'd hardly notice really... unsure.gif
