I'm sat at my bloke's computer with InKy and we've been wandering through some current threads and noticed a few people's comments about bad language on the board.

Just to clear a this up we want to know what you forumites considered to be 'bad' language? What words are and aren't acceptable?

Obviously out and out swear words could be considered in bad taste like the 'f' word and the 'c' word but what about b*ll*cks, sh*t and ar$e??? unsure.gif I know someone made the comment that sh*t was now considered rude and probably shouldn't be?

I know some previous threads have touched on this and Mata made a serious point that mature people shouldn't have to swear to get their point across which is mostly true but sometimes you really just want to use a rude word biggrin.gif

Sorry if the edited words above caused offense but it's rather difficult to ask people if they find a typed word offensive without actually typing some of it  Also, is it OK to type these words like this? Does it actually make them less offensive??

I guess this is really a question for the mods?

A curious (and rather drunk) Pixie wacko.gif & InKy wink.gif

There's a question. Personally I'm fairly sweary when I'm in the pub, (as some may have noticed) but I think part of the reason for swearing limitation is to make sure that the place is still fairly parent friendly. Of course we all know the words from an early age, but the younger members could potentially be told that they can't come to the forum if their parents have seen a lot of swearing here.

It's also rather fun to come up with ludicrous insults instead... You monkey toasting weasel mongers!

Stick it up your jam funnel, you donkey bottom batterer.

Go away or I will taunt you a second time... ;P

Seriously, kiddlies, this has gone a little off-topic - it's been on my mind to wonder what is unacceptable language around these parts. Some kind of concensus amongst the mods would be greatly desirable.

Get to it, goddamnit!

(was that too rude?)

Certainly I've seen people censor themselves with words like bitch and so on, which seems to be taking it a little far.

My yardstick for language is whether or not they would say it on the Simpsons. Can't say what other power wielders think though, so I'm making a precedent. wink.gif

Interesting, Fuzz. Mine was 'if they print it in Kerrang!, it's OK'. Basically, no f@ck, no c*nt, but everything else is fair game.

See how we differ? See? See?

Not too much by the look of things. The main thing is whether or not it is called for at the time...

I agree Fuzz, as long as it's it's not a serious cuss or expletive, then it's prolly ok to use it, if the context of the post warrants it. But of course, making up your own is sooo much more fun, I would say cowbag, horsesniffer and bumhola are fine!!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif

Unfortunately swearing is so commonplace among younger people anyways, I hear 7, 8, 9 year olds effing away at each other when i get Ethan from school....

think of it this way: as swearing becomes more commonplace, then the words themselves hurt less when they're used hurtfully.

but on these forums, i think a little swearing is fine, as long as its for a good reason for it. don't just wander around sayin "F*CK F*CK F*CK" all the time for no reason, but if you have to swear, i think it's fine (but i don't make the rules)

I wouldn't say anything that hasn't been printed in MAD.
