well, if you've got the same IP adress as someone, that means you're posting from their computer or they're posting from yours

not always. me and my brother share an IP address, and we are both on different computers. we also split our DSL. two of my friends happen to have the same IP address (they found this out when they were having problems hacking eachother or something stupid like that), they live a good half mile away from each other, have a different internet provider.

something protocol. it just is there to sorta identify your comp, but if you're lucky yours changes every time you log on

My understanding (which could be off.... you know me smile.gif ):

ISP is your internet service provider.... IP address is the internet protocol address. If you have dial-up access, then your IP address will be different each time you connect to the internet. If you have cable, then your IP address stays the same. The IP address does identify computers that have access to the internet. There are four sets of numbers in the IP address--the first part identifies the network, and the last part identifies the specific computer.

Think of it as your computers house number. It's the easiest way to explain it.

Theresapartay joined in August, which would be 2 months ago. Although, admitedly, not OVER two months.

Just to set the record straight, an ISP is your Internet Service Provider, such as AOL or Time Warner etc. And here's a little page on IP numbers to help out: URL Hope that clears things up a little... ^^;

That's probably the best human explanation you'll ever hear.... so I need not say anything, I always find it useful for the people who do not understand this to take a trip to about.com and read a bit more.

Trust me you'll all love networking, such a horny subject.
