A friend of mine had carpal tunnel years ago. She just had to wear a brace on her wrist for awhile..from what I remember.

Go to the doctor if you're worried about it, Kidvish. S/he'll be able to ease your mind better than any of us would.

I probably have it. Typing for hours every day for the past 6 years, and playing piano for an hour for the past 10 years...

Yeah. My wrists are all... eww. And weird. And... ahh. I don't wanna get CT though x_X;

my grandad had it about 3 months ago, he just had a couple of trips during the days to the hospital and it was sorted, with only minor after-effects for a little while. even if you did find out you had it it'd be ok, i think *hugs*
but i hope you don't!

Just what is carpal tunnel syndrome? Apparently you get it from typing too much, and I type for hours on end every day, and recently my right wrist has been hurting...anyone have any links to sites about it, or know anything in general?

My mom had it when I was in junior high...she got it from being a bus driver for 10 years (since the buses back then never had power steering)...she had to get surgery in both wrists and was told she had to find another job or she'd probably get CT again and then they wouldn't be able to do anything about it....

but that's ok 'cuz she found a job she really loved....and then a couple years ago, another job she loved even more, so it's all good!

Anyway...from what I remember, CTS is when constant use of your wrists causes constriction inside them (your wrists)...I don't remember if it's through cartilage buildup or just from shifting of the bones or what....but it pinches the nerves in your wrists causing first tingling and that "falling asleep" feeling in your hands, then pins-and-needles in your hands, wrists and arms...sometimes your arm will just fall asleep for no reason and other times it causes minor stabbing pains in your forearm. Usually, wearing a brace and refraining from whatever activities you're in that use your wrists a lot will cause it to go away after a while, but sometimes they have to do surgery on your wrists to lessen the pressure on the nerves. (at which point they sew you up and give you a ball of silly putty to play with to regain the strength in your hands and wrists! Hooray!)

I stay on the computer a lot. And I play a lot of video games.

I've also been typing longer than quite a few forumites have even been alive (although, when I was 6, I don't know if you could really call it "typing")

My wrists are perfectly healthy.

Carpal tunnel can also be caused by doing such things as being a bell boy (bell person..?) in a hotel (if you carry the bags...not if you have one of those little carts to zoom around with). Some people seem a lot more prone to it than others.

My friend who got CTS spent maybe a couple hours on the computer per week, if that.

Yes, actually. I am quite well-read, thank you. Reading happens to be one of my favorite past-times.

Have YOU ever tried to open a book? I doubt it, judging from the ridiculous, misinformed sites that you constantly post.

Forget it. I don't want this to turn into a flame war. There's no point in that. But I resent the implication that I am uneducated simply because I also enjoy the computer and video games. That's just preposterous. You should really stop making such superficial judgements about people. It'll get you nowhere.

I have CTS. I am on the computer a lot now, but I actually got CTS before I became addicted to chatting.... lol I got it from a job I used to have. I went to specialist, and he told me to wear wrist braces. I may have to have the surgery later--but that is a last resort. I only wear the braces at night when one or both of my wrists bother me for a while. Before I knew what it was, it hurt more and I would be carrying something, then just drop it. It was like my hands would just give out and I couldn't hold it. It could even be something as light as a towel. unsure.gif
