I was thinking that we should do something big for Dayan...

something bigger than posting and dedications...

I cant decide on a date tho...

but i was thinking we all wear a yellow ribbon..or tie it somewhere like...i dunno..
a tree or something....and then write something like...

"we miss you Dayan, this one's for you"

I dont know if it would work but i think its a good idea...

or if you think of something better(or a date)

post it here with coments and stuff

Im going to buy 3 purple balloons, write things to Dayan on them and sit there watching them fly away. IM also going to throw a rose into the ocean from "my spot". IM doing it on modae on account of thats the day of the funeral. IM aslo putting his pic on my binder... and on modae, im going to wear black ribbon in my hair. thats all i can think of... if anyone else has any ideas, i'd love to do them with them.

I've added an event to the site calendar. I wasn't at all sure what to call it, so it's got the title 'Life Day' (if you can think of something more appropriate please feel free to suggest it):

A day to celebrate life, to remember those that are no longer with us and to know that sometimes we never can tell how much time we have left to tell those around us that we care.

Carpe Diem.

In memory of our lost friend Dayan, who sadly is no longer with us, and who has reminded us how short our time sometimes is.

***

This will be on the forum every year on the 22nd November.

Mata? No offense, dear, but... it makes absolutely no sense to me to celebrate life on a day of death.

I'd wish for another day, personally... like Dayan's birthday, or something like that...

Just my insignificant thoughts on it, though...

i think it's because we're trying to remember dayan's life, not his death. it's better for me when i think about arguing with debs over nirvana and the pixies or any of my other memories about him. but, of course, the date was picked to remember his passing as well, so that we can remember his life.

When my great-grandmother died, my father told me that a funeral was not meant to remember someone's death, but to remember that person's life and realize how precious yours is. I'm indifferent on celebrating Life Day (or whatever it shall be named) on Dayan's DOD or DOD. The point won't be to honor his birth or his death, but to celebrate what happened in between.

We're mourning, yes, but we have to celebrate Dayan's life and be grateful that we were his friends.

I agree with Gerb on this one (what is the world coming to?? wink.gif laugh.gif )

Missy - I know you're sad about his passing, but I think Gerbil is right. Dayan gave us all a lot. He always came over as a chirpy soul who was up for a laugh, so I think we should remember his life the same way. Wherever he is now, he'd be well pleased to see us all remembering him and having a good time with it. I know I'd prefer it that way if it were me.

I like this idea a lot (but not sure about the title, mind). I know on the 22nd of November every year I'm gonna raise a glass and a fist to him, then laugh mightily at how he'd be hard pressed to steal my Pringles from my latest fool-proof hiding place laugh.gif

Oh, sweet deluded Leo. He'd find them right away, then thwap you for hiding them and making his job only slightly more difficult...lol.

Now, back on topic. I like the idea of celebrating Dayan's life...but, like Leo, I don't know about the name. I can't think of a better name myself at the moment though, so I'm no help in that department. It matters not to me what day it falls on...as long as it happens.

Anyway, I was thinkin a little about the name, an I think it should be something suitably Dayan-esque. Mebbe summat like "Pixies Pringle Animated Eyebrow Day" or some such...

I agree with the principles mentioned, and I'm not sure about the name either.

It occurred to me yesterday that it would be nice to set up a thread called "The Shaking Fist", named pub-style, that could be a thread where one can go to do just that, and talk music, horse-poop and any other stuff ... a bit like the "what was your day like" sort of thing ... For a second I considered proposing that we change the name of the "Daily Life" forum to "The Shaking Fist" or similar, but I guess this would be extreme ...

SO ... is there a way of combining these thaughts? Dunno .... "Shake Your Fist Day" ? "Fist-Shaking Day"?

Dunno ... dunno. Something needs to be done for sure.

/me thinks some more

I'm not sure what to do yet. I reckon I'll wear black on Monday with my Goth Girl t-shirt (as I was wearing that when we first met). I'm planning on getting my hair dyed with him suggested colour.

I am also going to have a drink in his honour on Saturday night. Raise a glass and toast my friend smile.gif No tequila though!!!! biggrin.gif

As far as the name goes, it matters not to me. I just know that 22nd November will be Dayan Day to me.

Gah nothing, sir! You'd have loved it...even though you would never be able to hide those pringles. tongue.gif

And the name Dayan Day would embarrass the hell out of him...which makes it all that more great. lol. Lord. I don't know what I believe happens after we go...but if there's an afterlife, I've got a feeling I am getting the thwapping of a lifetime when I get there. A lot of the stuff I say I can just see him saying "gaaaaahhhhh" and calling me a c--kmonger or similar. But I'd have said it while he was here too. And I'd have gotten thwapped. biggrin.gif

The whole idea of the day in the first place would probably embarrass him, regardless of the name. Modest lil cherub. But I still like the idea of celebrating his life....the embarrassment is just a bonus. wink.gif

I personally am going to make myself a c--kbasket (I'll have to get the recipe from InKy), then stick a birthday candle into a can of Pringles. Other than that, I don't know just yet.
