I think we could use a little happy news about grades around here, so I suppose I'll toot my own horn a bit!

Semester GPA - 3.67!

I managed an A in everything but Physics, and even that pulled a B!

I'm really proud of myself. I've had a very rough semester, being sick, depressed, and struggling for the past few months over a myriad of things, and I kept priorities in check and finished the first half of my senior year with style. happy.gif

You don't have to respond to this, I'm just a bit too excited for my own good biggrin.gif

I am not sure what my grades are yet. I go to Michigan State (woot!) It is a great school, like the people there a lot. My finals were tough, but I am crossing my fingers unsure.gif

All top marks in every course = 4. All failing = 0.

This is an average of my scores for the semester. I took 15 hours of courses, I got A's (top marks) in 10 of the 15 hours and B's (second lowest marks) in the other 5.

Is that a nice and non-culturally exclusive explanation for everyone? laugh.gif

Hey congrats, that's great! I really am having a tough time in school right now, especially chem. It's good to hear that someone is doing well though.

I hate physics, I completely sucked in them too (a B isn't sucking, I just mean they weren't my forte), and that was just highschool course lol.

I'm not a big fan of earth physics. Stuff they teach in high school. Damned velocity of unladen swallows...I really don't care. I really get into theoretical stuff since it usually just involves symbols and not real numbers. Makes my life easier.
I still managed a 3.714, which is actually lower than what I expected, but as long as I get to keep my free money, I don't care.

Good luck to all of you who say you are struggling. I'm pulling for you! biggrin.gif

If I think I did how I think I did I got a 2.0 for the semester which drops my cumulative gpa to a 3.27. Damn those sucky semesters! Thank god I only need a 2.0 cumulative to transfer. laugh.gif 3.0 to take more honors! laugh.gif Not going to do that again!

Congrats Missy with your grades, you rock in my shoe!

Thank god the semester is over. Maybe I can regain a shred of sanity in the next 35 days.

I'm bored and felt like explaining the American GPA system.

A= 4 pts
B= 3 pts
C= 2 pts (this is also average)
D= 1 pt
F= 0 pts (because well it's failing)

So they take the grades and say I got an A, B, B, A and average them out based on their points. So that's 4+3+3+4 = 14 pts. Now they divide that by 4 to average it (4 because there were 4 grades, if there were five classes/grades it would be 5 etc, but I'm sure you could figure that out anyways. So the final G.P.A is 3.5 for that series, and that is a mid B average. Where it get's fun is cumulative G.P.A.'s which is all my college looks at. I had to go through my transcripts and figure it out and damn I've taken a lot of classes.

Anyways hope that helps those who don't get the American grading system. Oh and like polo pointed out when I told him about it, we did skip E. Viva America! laugh.gif

Of course, it gets tricky when you start to add in Honors and AP credits. My school gives an extra .02 points for each A or B in an Honors class, which gets added AFTER they do the averaging. Which means our school's valedictorian usually ends up graduating with some 4.8x GPA.

Some colleges (University of California, in particular) count an A or B in an AP (college-level) class with one extra point; ie, a B in AP Psychology would get 4 points, an A would get 5. The UC system also gives an extra .04 for honors classes, making my UC eligibilty GPA ridculously high.

About a week ago I got my grades, band saved me from total "dissapointment", man I hate that, I got a C in math so I've been pounding the crap out those linear equations recently.
My bad grades are just a reflection on how much I could care less and that I've redifined the word "slacker".
Well, anyway, I'm back, please no comments. X-mas break starts tomarrow and I thought it's about time to reunite with youse guys.

I got As in everything except my math class, and that could either be a C or a D. I am really hoping C, LoL. Maybe with all my honors/AP classes the last few years, it won't look too bad on my final transcript. *shrugs*

Oh well. Congrats to all you clever kiddies. tongue.gif And the slackers too, little buggers. wink.gif

((Plus I know how you feel, sjbbandgeek...band's my only sure thing anymore, LoL!))

Wow I must have really BSed well in Bio because I got a B. I don't know my history grade yet, but that will keep my gpa from falling too badly. laugh.gif Unless I got a D in history, then not only do I have to retake that section but my gpa will be down.
