Hey, I got a guitar a few weeks before christmas as my christmas present, and I'm doing pretty well so far, considering I'm teaching myself. I know a variety of chords, and most I know thier names...a few I just made up names for because I don't know what they are tongue.gif

Anyways, when I look up chords online I can read them, but I can't read tabs! And it's really frustrating! Can anyone help me?! Please?! huh.gif sad.gif unsure.gif

oh sure, this is simple, tab consists of 6 lines, which represent the guitar strings, the lowest line corrisponds to the bottom e (the fatest one) then you have a number on said line to represent which fret you hold down (1 being the first fret obviously and getting higher the closer you get to the body of the guitar and so the higher the notes go). if their are numbers in a verticle line then thats a chord.....you want to know anything more specific, ask wink.gif

Hmm, I do have 2 guitars... And if I played them I would help, but my place is the mandolin. Sexy got the tabs covered though. Thats one place I COULD have helped.

I've got a question for all of you.. What instrument (if any) do you play and how long have you been playing and what not? Maybe even rate the difficulty of learning it was for you? Or you can ignore this...

Egads, don't ask the musical instrument question!
I played the clarinet (6 years), guitar (4 years), bass guitar (2 years), percussion (1 year)
Plus: choir (2 years), color guard (2 years) and winter guard (2 years).

I'm a musical fool, indeed.

guitar, i've been playing for more years than is wise to disclose...because i still suck >_>, suffice to say i can play any chord you throw at me but solo's is a slightly different matter, and what with lacking the confidence to play in front of people (so my teacher said before i stoped) no one really knows how well i can play but....me! >_<

i like 12 string best ......i should buy that one off my mate for cheap >_>

Good lord, what instrument and for how long?

Violin: Started when I was 4, stopped when I was 13.
Voice: Started when I was 10ish, still singing today. Did I mention I was a voice major in University for three years?
Piano: Started when I was 14ish. Still play it, but I suck at it.
French horn: I think I played it for about 5 years in elementary/juniour high.
Oboe: Played it for three years in high school.
Guitar: I've only just started, about a year ago. Not very good at it because I don't practice.

I've sung in many choirs and opera choruses as well. At one point, I thought I was going to be a conductor.

Oi, I've done too much music in my lifetime. blink.gif

well, i played cello for 8 years but stopped because my lessons oriented towards exams and i wanted to play for the fun and beauty of it. i can't hear cello now without getting all emotional because i miss it so much sad.gif
i taught myself clarinet and iv been playing for about 2 years now, and thats what i play in my marching band, which i love smile.gif
umm...i muck around with classical guitar, but i'm not too good now i stopped actually practising, so now i just learn little solos and funky stuff in preparation for getting my electric bass (oooo the funk)

did anyone ever have an instrument they wanted to learn but haven't or can't?
like, i always wanted to be able to play the piano and electric guitar, but i won't be able to afford piano lessons (and my piano needs too much tuning/repair work to be played for more than five notes)

*wants to learn mandolin next*

is it as hard, or harder than guitar, evil?

dont listen to my silly girlfriend. im an ok musician. minored in music in college.
FACTS:
piano- im ok (12 years)
flute- (4 years)
bagpipes- ok just the once, but i wasnt bad!
drums- i play auxillary percussion (djembe) and can bang a drum set pretty ok.
guitar-maybe my true calling (9 years)
vocals- ok im totally a singer (forever) opera, musicals galore, 2 years of lessons... etc...

*also was in color guard- flag and rifle

any specific tab questions? im sure some of us can help. pick a song you REALLY wanna learn and analyze from there...

PSSSSTT... make up chords all you want. you dont need to know what they're called. unless you're playing with a keyboardist anyway...
