That's a rather suspicous first post on this forum and I've removed two of the links.

Those two of the link had tracker components so it's likely Ultimate Weapoon is getting some form of recompense for people clicking the links. This is not a forum that accepts advertising for profit, and certainly not without paying me for it. If people want to advertise they can buy space on the front page. If these things were genuinely free then I wouldn't mind so much, but if Ultimate Weapoon is getting paid to give out these links then the information that you give in exchange must be of value to someone.

There's very rarely anything such as a free item, so always be aware of the value of your personal information to others. Often I consider the value of the 'free' gift compared to several years of junk mail and I decide that I can live without a week's sample product in exchange for a blissfully empty post box.

You are one of those spammers! Since they did that thingy with the no-spam emails, you probably came here to advertise!

And why do you need a free condom? They're not THAT expensive.

Actually you can buy lists of people's names and email addresses on the internet, or get pieces of software that will generate probably existing email addresses for you.

For example, I could probably sell the database that runs these forums for a good many thousands of pounds, and don't think that' I haven't been tempted... But it's not my style. Which is a shame for me because the money would come in handy! biggrin.gif

Yes you can, but the companies can put out so much more of it. And some services will only let you send so many at a time. AOL for instance will close your screenname if it thinks your spamming.

Yes, but AOL blocked the drinking game URL that I had programmed for Channel 4 because they said that it was producing too much unsolicited email, which is a bit odd considering you had to type in the email addresses one at a time. That's just AOL for you.

Most of the software available has built in filters so that you can delay the sending of your mails by breaking them up into packets of smaller bunches that don't get blocked. Spamming is big business and so far there's still no decent way of stopping it.

I'm probably going to sound like some googly-eyed brown noser but Mata's right, Oni. I actually have two friends who were hired by internet businesses to email people and advertise the buisnesses' products. It's something many businesses with um....less-than-honorable morals....were doing for a while: hire someone to make a new email address (or two, three, four, five new addresses...you can get 'em everywhere) and begin sending cut-n'-paste emails to lists the companies would give to their industrious little employees....that way, the emails were more likely to be opened since they had the names and signatures of real people, and not corporations or businesses (people would be more likely to think that it was a new email address from one of their friends, or perhaps a recently-met acquaintance).

(the story follows that my friends got screwed out of their first paycheck (it never came) so they quit)

Its actually easier then that... you find yourself a open forwarding mail server (or 50) and point your mass mailers at them... you try to make sure it will get through most spam filters and send 2million emails out on the ether.

If you would care to notice this has already been argued and as you'll also care to notice, I said "they generally aren't" from which you should infer, that I didn't mean all the time. I basically said, yes people do that, but a whole lot more of it comes from corporations who exsist for that soul purpose.
I get an average of 7 spam e-mails a day, half are for drugs, and half are for porn sites. And those are just the ones that get through the spam blocker. You're telling me that those are coming from some person who is too stupid to use a different list of people every day. And not from some program that the porn sites have running? Or from aol selling my sn to the people who do the drug stuff.
