Rah!

Edinburgh is a seriously cool place. One of my best buddies went to uni there and has been living there since. I've thoroughly enjoyed it on the numerous occasions I've been up there to visit.

You have to go to the Jekyll & Hyde pub (haven't a scoob what street it's on, but it's up the hill from Princes Street about three quarters of a mile). It's the maddest theme pub I've ever been in. There's skeletons in glass jars, the door to the toilet is part of a bookcase, and they randomly pipe in scary noises into the toilets themselves. Scared the crap out of me (almost literally) the first time I was taking a wee and this woman's scream rings out just above my head.

Head) and one in Nottingham (The Pit & Pendulum) which I've also been to . They're cool! cool.gif My Fav bit is once you've found your way into the the loo's they scream at you! biggrin.gif

My heart is glad that your heart is glad, Porcey smile.gif

I should really start thinking about universities, 'specially if I want to follow the girlfriend to Cambridge where she will undoubtedly go, damn her and her academic success...

I got an unconditional entrance to this university, it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling as i coasted through my a-level while watching everyone else working their little hineys off to get into uni, well done, may you feel warm and fuzzy (but still get reasonable a-level results)

Nice one Porc, it's a real load off of your mind to get told that kind of thing. I got a couple of unconditionals when I was applying but I was doing a foundation course so I already had my A-level results.

I can't remember the name of the pub chain Jon's talking about, but my friend Mat and I have got very drunk in the Marlborough Head a couple of times. Ah... Google to the rescue... http://www.eeriepubco.com/

Good work, lady-dude.

Personally, I got into Uni through clearing (not due to bad grades, but the incompetence of Newcastle Uni), but I'm sure an unconditional is a wonderful thing to have.

Nice choice of Uni, too, kiddo. Much luck to ye.

Yeah, I like that pub, there's one like it in Aberdeen (where I used to live), called Slains Castle which has hidden toilet doors (not good if your v drunk or v desperate!), and howling noises too - oh, yeah and great cocktails!!

Congratulations on getting accepted for uni, Laura, that's brilliant!! (Will email soon to gossip!)

Hang on......unconditional! ohmy.gif Doesn't that kinda defeat the object of doing A levels in the first place. In my day we had conditional that we got specific grades and we had to walk 5 miles to school backwards, blah, blah, blaaaaah biggrin.gif

Ok... enough happy shock. An unconditional offer is damn nifty. But... according to your DOB, you should be in Y12! I'm a year older and only recently finished getting my offers (all conditionals, I'm too mediocre dry.gif ). You must be quite uber to have got that. Congrats, hugs and all the other gubbins. biggrin.gif

woo! congratualtons!

I only got two conditional offers for uni, maybe I shouldn't have applied for courses wanting ABB when I have a C average....stupid inability to know things when I need to....grrr!

But uni is cool...when you don't have tonnes of work and your heating works!

The Pit and Pendulum is such a funky place, I like the fire outside! Serves me right for being a pyro really hehe!

yay! thanks all you lovely people, i feel all bad now cause i dun gone went and dissapeareded again but i have returned and im still all chuffed!

to answer assorted questions...

1 - i live in scotland so i have my standard grades and highers as proof of cleverness (we dont do A levels, 6th year is for advanced highers or additional highers)

2 - i was born in january and started school when i was four so will leave aged 17, i think we have one less high-school year than england? not sure on that but im not young...

3 - ive been to that pub too!!!

4 - i got two A's and three B's last year and my curse (MA in psychology) only asked for one A and three B's so i was pretty sorted, got three other unconditionals and not heard from st andrews yet

5 - yes!!! come to scotland!!! we can go to evil screamy pub o' doom!!!

etc...
