Okay, two questions. First of all, which is more important, the SAT or the ACT? Second of all, I'm in 7th grade, I scored a 992 on the SAT. Now, I know this is a pitiful score compared to the 1600 and how college-bound seniors do, but I thought it was a pitiful score for a 7th grader too until today when the assistant principal was so surprised whenever one of my teachers mentioned my SAT score to her. So the second question is, is it bad for a 7th grader to score a 992 on the SAT? Thanks.

Neither the ACT or the SAT are more important. It depends on what college you apply to. They generally just require one test score, and the application packet will tell you which one. So when you know what colleges you want to apply to, you'll know what tests to take. I didn't take the ACT, so I know absolutely nothing about that test.

I'd say no, it's not a bad grade for a 7th grader, since you're several years behind when most people take it. You just haven't had the classes needed to get a good score on it yet...it's not that you're less intelligent, you just haven't learned the skills yet (did that make sense?). Plus, 1000 to 1100 is average for a senior...so you're just right below that mark.

You should do fine when you get to the real thing. I recommend an SAT prep course if you're nervous about it. It helped me get over the anxiety, even though I was only 2 weeks into the class when I took the actual test. I could have done a lot better on the SAT if I'd waited till the end of the class, I think...but that at least helped me with not being so nervous.

It also depends on which exam the state of your proposed university holds more highly. For example, most Kentucky universities prefer the ACT, so I took it twice...and on three hours of sleep both times. 28...hehehe I figured once I got the mystical free money number, I'd just quit while I was ahead...
I also took the SAT in 7th grade (through the Duke program, if that's what you did) and I got around that same mark.

I'd say you're doing pretty damned well. Good job!
*hands you a congratulatory cake*

I got 1190 freshmen and sophmore year on the Preliminary Scholactic Aptitude Test... I guess that means that your score is fine, but that I'm not progressing in knowledge.

i think we do things differently in saskatchewan... i remember taking big standardized tests in grades 3, 6, and 9, but the results were never given to us or our parents. these test were also sprung on you so you couldn't study for them, and since we didn't have to take them in grade 12, i don't believe they had any influence on university acceptance... all my university required when i applied was a grade transcript saying that i had at least a 70% average.

but i digress. if you got that high of a score on a test meant for students in grade 12, and you're only in grade 7, i'd say you've got nothing to worry about! it sounds like 992 is above average for your level.
