What do you do when for no apparent reason you just feel low. When life just seems so pointless and you are empty of all emotions but sadness.

I just felt like this, I haven't had enough energy to do anything today but sit and mope about something I don't know. This morning was going to be a good day, something must have gone wrong.

Right now I am sitting in my dark room, depressing soundtrack in the background and surrounded by 16 candles, one for each year I've walked the earth.

Eat chocolate, exercise, watch happy movies. Then enter into my delusional la-la land when the clouds are spiky and green.

Seriously... exercise can help. Also getting alot of light, either go out into the sun, or sit by a light box or something like that. Sitting in the dark crying won't make ya feel better.

I like the film idea though. Finding Nemo?

.. yup ... that'll do it .... Unnecessary symbolism has harmed more people, chickens and parties than one could ever imagine ... Its called making it worse ...

I wouldn't say that. Some of the music is uplifting, more a soundtrack I put on when I feel like this. The dark I can't explain. And the candle thing is another thing I can't explain. If something makes you feel slightly better then you don't usually argue as to why it works you just do it.

I'm more interested in what else I can do to keep my mind off of things. Finding Nemo I have only another 3 hours till the download is complete.

If it's extreme, I have a little self-injury addiction that would get revisited, but most of the time I eat something, put on depressing music, and write. And lots of sleep. If the day is going bad, there's probably no way to turn it around until the next morning.

First of all, unnecessary symbolism is not always a bad thing, quite the opposite. However in this situation it is a bad thing.

I was on a natural high for three days recently, quite a transcdendentalist experiance. I know this will sound nebulous, but try not to care. Try to become a child, and stop caring. How you acheive that only you will be able to discover.

I feel that way all the time.. in fact i do now.. but i got reasons.

Darkness useually sooths me for some reason, the fact that its just me, my room and my music. A low light also helps because it gives a relaxed feeling. A movie might help, but it doesn't for me. Free writing, or writing a poem or just your thoughts helps sometimes to get whatever you might have a problem with that you don't know you did helps as well. Drawing might work too, even if you can't draw, just putting down random shapes and stuff just to keep your mind busy. I know its odd just to feel low for no reason, but really there always is. I hope my advice helps.

Yeah, at times when I'm feeling really really low, sometimes I just assume the fetal position on my bed and stare at the ceiling until I fall asleep, or don't. But after a while I realized this just isn't productive.

Someone already said it, exercize does help. It's a natural high. Also, if there's something in particular that is making you low, it can help to have a pity party for youself with a friend who after listening to all of it, can help make gentle suggestions about how you can solve your problems. You feel better after making some kind of plan...feel like you have a purpose.

Um, if there are not obvious problems....I don't know...get enough sleep, do a hobby you like- it's hard to work up the motivation but worth it. Go out with friends. Think about how you can make tomorrow even SLIGHTLY productive and take things one hour at a time. Sometimes cleaning one's room can help- not even the entire room, just pick a small task like piling the papers on your desk into neat piles, or pick up all your socks. Clean rooms make people happy.

Wish I could follow my own advice!

Well, when I'm down, I usually hang out with some friends and smoke a little weed, or polish off a bottle of red wine. The lowness is usually forgotton after a few hours, and thusly perminantly.

Tell myself that it really could be worse or what's the worst that could happen. I am still alive. I take each day/hour/minute as it comes. That's all I can do sometimes. Sometime I wish I was down all the time as then the highs and lows wouldn't hit me so badly. Perhaps prescription medication is the answer? Perhaps a little 'smoke'?

Who knows. Whatever makes you feel better should be what works. Sounds like you have an idea though.

I am no artist, but I always doodle especially when low, little cartoons and strange shapes put together in a drawing.

I really regret making this thread, I don't know what I was thinking. A little pathetic now I look back on it.

On the bright side I got a good 6 hour sleep. Most I've had for ages smile.gif and a huge chunk of my coursework is out of the way as of lunchtime today biggrin.gif.

Even though i had nothing to say on the main body of this thread, i don't think you should regret it. Talking about things that puzzle/worry/upset you is a good thing, even if when it's over you think "OMG".

If the answers here helped even better or if telling people the problem helped then the job is done, not only do you feel better but so do the people who helped you. Anyway that's my contribution to this ............. just don't ask me for advice, as i suck at giving it wink.gif

Sometimes I look back at threads I made when I was down and I think "What was I thinking! huh.gif" but that's the point of these boards. We all care and want to help. Don't fret! biggrin.gif

Nah. We've all been there. Some days should be good but turn up awful for no reason. It happens. Some days, you're life will be turned to poo and you'll wake up feeling good for no reason.

Tis the ever weird thing called life, my friend. Best thing to do is just roll with it. We're all entitled to be maudlin once in a while.

glad you feel a bit better now, i didn't get round to replying the other day *hugs* i know what you mean, i get a lot of these days now i'm not with my ex, it's left a huge void and i haven't found a way to fill it yet. but like everyone said, no-one cares if you made a thread like this cause it helps people apart from you as well, that maybe didn't think of doing that, so really you did at least me a favour! tongue.gif
