All right. So, I've been offered a job working as an instructor at a summer camp out in the boonies. I volunteered last year, and it was fun, despite me having several emotional/mental breakdowns. I accepted just a few minutes ago by email. Now I'm wondering if I'm crazy. I have fun working out there, but there are days that I'm incredibly depressed and lonely. I'm not entirely sure I should have accepted so fast. But I don't want to back out. And I really have no clue what I'm doing.

Also, this thread has no point. sad.gif

I was thinking about doing that last summer....or the summer before.....anyway, i decided against it mainly because kids can really drive me crazy plus i had this nightmareish fantasy where i was placed in
"Camp my-mummy-and-daddy-are-richer-than-yours" and the only thing i hate more than little kids is little rich little kids tongue.gif

....oh and it occured to me i'm not really good enough at anything that i can teach to sprogs....so yeah, anyway, i was labouring for a healthy sum instead, i still got money, fresh air and sun shine but without all the kids tongue.gif

seemed to have waffled for a bit there, anyway, yay you, and if it really gets too much, i doubt they'll miss one or two kids if they had "accidents" >_> laugh.gif

Hehe, yes. I've been told that it's acceptable to lose one kid per week. So I get to 'lose' 8 kids. I will choose them carefully. biggrin.gif

Sorry, are we still talking about summer camp here or have we strayed into warfare tactics?

Is there a difference?

Possibly a little bit of both. After all, if a few of them don't come back from their little orienteering course, well... What could I do? biggrin.gif

I'm an evil instructor.

A bit offtopic, but I'm bored, sick, and I feel like rambling. Deal tongue.gif

I went to the same summer camp for eight odd summers.

One of my favorite counsellors was a young man who was a ROTC cadet at the time. He would have us do little mock drills and give us rude little cadences to sing will we walked to meals.

Sometimes at night he would lead us on "commando raids" to the kitchen to steal cookie dough and hot cocoa mix*. He gave us face paint and everything <3

David

*Cookiedough and cocoa mix where the ultimate, as we got very little in terms of sweets there (quasi-religious camp).

Is it just me or is it that when growing up we all remember the adults who don't actually care about the rules (well, the rules that don't matter anyway?). I always wanted to be a person who wouldn't just live by rules that are pointless, things like 'you must not do this' never appealed to me. If there was a damn good reason not to do it then fair enough, but I never liked the idea of 'because we don't think you should'. Or maybe it's just that I like being able to make my own mind up about things. This has wandered completely off-topic hasn't it? I really shouldn't post after half a bottle of wine and a few pints...

Heh, that's a good idea! Only the kitchen gets locked at night now, since cookies for some reason kept mysteriously vanishing. *cough*

Teaching kids songs is fun. Only problem is I forget words, and am sort of tone deaf. hehehe.
