Have you ever sat staring at a word you just wrote thinking "wow! Do you really spell it like that? Is that even a real word?"

I do it all the time, just now roundabout did it for me...how stupid does that word look? I'm pretty sure if you concentrate anything can look wrong...

do you actually spell roundabout like that?

Okay, my friend Amy and I have done this over and over again. It irritates the crap out of us.

Attach.

IT NEEDS TO BE ATTATCH!

Batch, latch, snatch, catch, match...all have a t.

Attach doesn't. It always looks wrong to us.

Mediocre bothers me. I just found out that I've been spelling it wrong my whole life, but WHY is it spelled like that?
It doesn't look good "mediocer" maybe meedioker? No... medeeoker? Medioker? Better with the k anyway.

Don't know why this is, but between is one of the hardest things for me to spell correcttly. Actually, anything involveing two letters in succession bothers me, y'know?

I don't normally have any problems, sometimes if a word has two letters the same and I'm typing I'll put the letter before twice and the one that should be there twice only once.

Other than that it only really happens if I'm concentrating...I can stare at a word for ages thinking "eh?"...on every day words like "who" or "where" it just screws with my mind!

Glad I'm not the only one!

Hmm...happens all the time...why are words spelled the way they are? why do words mean what they do anyway? whats the reasoning behind them? in fact, why have a language at all...we should communicate through A6 index cards with little pictures on them or the power of onomatopeia(sp?)!

Language is a lot quicker. Have you ever realized how many words you actually say in like 5 seconds. It's a lot, if you haven't. Flashcards would take too long, I'm an impatient person... dry.gif

Hmm, but imagine, one day you turn up at a party or something and get to the door, you're about to go in then have second thoughts...sure everyone could be just having a normal conversation, but on the other hand the party could have turned into a mass orgy...how will you be sure?

Sorry snoo but I dont think ugs and groans alone cut it as a language

I use grunts and groans in place of 'yes' or 'no' a lot. During the hour or so it takes me to wake up completely I communicate with them entirely rolleyes.gif

As for words, there's a few which always throw me. I can't think of any right now. What really bugs me is words which I've read or written, but never spoken. When I do say it, I get laughed at because of screwy pronounciation. Paradigm for example, I always thought it was pronounced 'paradigim' for some reason. Meh.

laugh.gif I still have trouble with that, Fuzzers.

Amy and I said we should just develop a language of grunts and clicks.

Yes, actually, this happens to me a lot too-- thinking that that's a weird way to spell a word. Words that have set me off include:

Queen
minute
got
shoe

My brain doesn't. If it is I would be able to talk really fast and say actual sentances, like all girls seem to be able to do (whether they make sense or not)

Thats one of those words. Whether, or weather.. its so confusing! Whats with the 'h'?
I also dont like exercise. Not only does it have a horrible horrible meaning, but it has a stupid 'c' in it! Arghh!!
Attach is evil too. Sounds like it should be read "attakh"
Come to think of it "actual" looks wrong as well. Am I in my early morning state just spelling everything wrong, or is the actual words that are wrong?

*edit* more words: teach, language

for me, i think nessiccary is an odd word. Just how do you spell it?

For onomatopoeia just remember, the last 4 vowels are in the same order as in the word poetical. it helps. don't know if the first bit of the word is right or not though.

neccessary?

necesary?

nicisary?

what the hell is it?

necessary

it is a right pain to spell, especially when you usually abbreviate it in notes to nec. then when you come to write it you get that far and stare at it for a while thinking "how's it go again?" unsure.gif

Spelling necessary is the one thing I learnt from 5 years of Latin that I actually use on a daily basis. The other good way to remember is that it's abbreviated to nec. so there's only one c in it.
