I'm a newbie and want to start off by saying "hi!" to everyone. This seems like a groovy place so I thought I'd start my thread career with a game of Mornington Crescent...
To those who don't know how to play, don't worry, you'll pick it up as we go along. For those who do know how to play:

I thought we'd play by the Harrington-Browning rules as laid down at the 1942 Scarborough conferance. For those with only a rudimentary awareness of the Harrington-Browning rules i should point out that no Flanting is allowed!! Double-tasking is fine. Shuffling and cabbing is strictly a no-no. Other then that the rules are as usual.

As it's my thread i get to go first. Yay!!

Tottenham Court Road

(That says so much about my character...)

I think it might help if you explained the rules. I don't know about anyone else, but i've never heard of it.

Quite frankly, due to the rules introduced in the great Warner vs Tunville debate of 1926 you've forced me to choose Gants Hill

Good play, Yahadriel. However, you've left your District open to a Circle, and since we're playing by Harrington-Browning I can elevate my second Chancery Lane to: Tottenham Court Road. That's trump and set, if I'm not mistaken.

Oooh, you've put me in a nasty situation but I think i can get myself out of it by following Johnsons circle line triple station rule and playing Bank. I would have gone for Paddington but Yahadrial wisely chose to disallow Flanting.

I'm a stickler for the old favourites, so I'll enter this stiff competition with a Kings Cross.

As we're using such classic rules, I take it we're not allowed to to play with the recent changed to the jubilee rules

It's been a while since I've played with such cunning strategists! It being a Sunday, I'd decided to play Camden Town, bearing in mind the exit-only status of this station on Sundays between 1 and 5 p.m.

Ah, my dear Commie. Always a predictable player, and always with a trick up your sleeve. Well, I'll bet that you didn't see an Omlulio-Graves under-barreler coming! Take an Embankment in the interest repayments, fiend!

I'm sorry, but if we are playing by Harrington-Browning rules as laid down at the 1942 Scarborough conferance (and not the sloppy compromise that came about from the loathsome Campden Barnyard ammendments 1954) then you are not allowed to do that with one in three vending machines blocked and welding marks from Latimer Road to Royal Oak. You are now in a new buffet car, no coins.

Allow me ....

It's a simple manoeuvre, I know, but one oft neglected by advanced members. "The basic rules [are] the first forgotten", to quote the much-admired Sir Jason Hargreaves, speaking at the 1863 Grand Convention On Eclu (Eclu being the original French game, invented, it is said, by Napoleon himself during his holiday/exile in Elba). Not wishing to insult your intelligence of course, I present you with an unfettered Whitechapel.

Really? I once read somewhere that Eclu was actually an English game adopted by the French and given a French name. I might be wrong.

[sorry for the substantial bump, but I do love it when people play this game]
