I didn't do the Test The Nation thing, but I'm 163 on the Cattell B scale. Which scale does Test The Nation use?

129? That's above average on any scale (all scales have 100 as average) but I think that was very high on the first Test the Nation...

Can't really remember. I think it was 135? *shrugs* It was about 6 years ago, so my memory of it is a tad hazy.

I place very little stock in IQ scores, however. They do measure "something," but it's not been proven that what they do measure is intelligence. And this sounds like a cliche, but they're racially biased. Biased in my favor, mind you, since I'm white, but still...not fair. Black students who are in honors classes and perform comparably to white students in the same situation still have an average score that is significantly less than that of the white students...there are various theories about why this is true...but I'll spare you the details (unless you actually want to know...otherwise it'd just be me rambling on for at least 2 rather large paragraphs..lol).

I'm guessing because white students have the advantage of cultural capital? That was the same reason working-class children scored much worse than middle-class on the old 11+ exams here in England.

Despite the many drawbacks of IQ tests, it's demonstrable that there is a correlation between IQ and intelligence.

I've taken random tests and I don't remember which is which but I got a 143, 147, 152, 118, and 128.

I'm betting the 118 is right. Just because I don't think that I'm that smart. But who knows, my mother has been tested and they told her she's at genius level... huh.gif

Err, I need this linkie. But as for online internet tests, the lowest was 109 and the highest was 189... blink.gif the majority of them say 132, and I think that sounds about right...in fifth grade when I took a test before going to middle school it was 124...but I haven't taken one lately..

I think I usually get about 109 to 120, which is by no means genius, but it is above the national average. If that's a true reflection of my IQ (which I suspect it is but people who know me say it isn't) then it just goes to show what a lot of hard work can do for you even if you're not the brightest star in the sky.

I think the average IQ is around 97. Bill Clinton's was 184. George W Bush's is 92. I'll let you make your own jokes up about that.

Clinton was 184? Bloody hell - on any scale, that's significantly above genius level. We're talking Nobel scientist levels.

I think on most scales, average IQ scores are between 90 and 110. So GWB2 is average. Just.

Edit: I never heard that Bush took an IQ test - where'd you get those scores, Mata?

I thought that the common pointing system for IQ tests is based around the premise that 100 is considered a measurable average for the population being tested ... tests vary depending on who's being measured .. So US IQ test is for people in US culture, an occidental European one for the western Europeans, a mapachi tree-dwelling Indian test is for those guys, and so on ... If you really want to have some fun you get a bunch of brits to do a US IQ test and a bunch of americans to do a brit one ... hours of entertainment contrasting those results, no doubt ... hehehe... ph34r.gif

Oh, and IQ test results kinda depend on what mood you got up in in the morning and so on so they're really not to be taken too seriously ... Also, an IQ test that relies on advertising is likely to be somewhat biased ... and one that doesn't encompass cultural differences is likely to be a truck-load of 'somewhat biased' (do you work in decimal or imperial measurements?)... Also little phenomena such as dyslexia make a joke out of standardised IQ measurements, as do depression and having 3 live angry pigeons stuck to your head whist being tested, so its all a bit unreliable really ...

(edited to annoy commie)

Yep, strictly speaking 100 is the average, but since one right or wrong answer will swing it either way there's a ten-point leeway - there's really no difference between someone who's at 99 and someone who's at 101.

I'll get into the racial bias more later. All my psych textbooks are at home, and I am not...and I'm not exactly certain I remember all the facts correctly.

For now I'll just say that on-line IQ tests should not be taken seriously at all. A valid IQ tests involves someone administering the test, in person, who is trained to do so.

Mine was administered by somebody, but it wasn't, like, one-on-one or anything, it was a bunch of us in a room answering questions from a paper. An exam, basically.
