Oho! I had completely forgotten it was Canada Day till I got on some other forums and saw a topic about it.

So, happy Canada Day to all the Canadians on the boards. smile.gif Even though it'll probably be way past Canada Day by the time you actually see this.

I liked Google's main image today...hehe:

Clicky!

It's a goose! HWAAAHHH! tongue.gif

Anyway, hope you all had fun today and such. happy.gif

pst Cand - it's a loon

No. Really. Our freaking national bird is a loon.

Went to the bar last night (it's July 2nd here) and another canadian pulled down her jeans to show us all her patriotic underwear.

....

Well I'm just disappointed now.

I thought it was a Canadian goose. Hrmph.

Oh well. In my defense, I've never seen a loon before. And Pab also thought it was a goose.

Damn. And after I was so proud of myself for knowing about Canada Day. dry.gif

Don't pick on poor Candice! I can... sort of see... maybe if I were tipsy... where I would get them confused... maybe... tongue.gif Just playin', they really do look pretty similar, esepcially from far away, especially if you've never seen a loon before.

I love Canada! Happy Canada Day! God bless Canada, man.

Oops, it was a couple days ago... oh well, god bless 'em anyway.

the loon has a weird eerie call. it's hard to describe but i guess if you could imaging something between a hoot and a woman's laugh, it'd be like that. i should just find the sound online...

found it! go here to listen to the loon.

o canada!
our home in native land
true patriot love, in all our sons command
with glowing hearts, we see thee rise;
the true north, strong and free!
from far and wide, o canada
we stand on guard for thee!
god keep our land glorious and free
o canada! we stand on guard for thee!
o canada! we stand on guard for thee!

i had lunch at a chinese restaurant for canada day and watched pretty fire works on the river bank.

Yes, the real pictures don't look similar. But the drawing on the Google page was deceptively goose-like. Bite me, Spoony. tongue.gif

Ah the common loon! It's call is even more glorious than the trumpet of a goose. biggrin.gif

Beyond the yodel which Jicama provided, there's also the famous tremolo laughter of the loon, which has been described as "insane laughter".

Also, there's the incredibly haunting wail, which you'll often hear at sunset.

I spent Canada Day in Northern Saskatchewan, sitting on the rocky shores of the Canadian Shield, watching the sunset over the trees, listening to the sound of loons and waves lapping on the shore... The perfect Canadian moment! tongue.gif How I love our country.

And, Cand, it looked nothing like a goose! It was so obviously the loon!

Mata, your rendition of O Canada! was about as close as many Canadians get to the lyrics!

And, because we're an officially bilingual country, I thought I should post the official french lyrics to our national anthem as well.

O Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits

(On a side note, Jic, it's "in all thy sons command," not, "in all our sons command.")

I have to go with Jiq.
I'm pretty sure the line is "in all our sons command"
The sons are ours not thine. smile.gif

Thankyou for the loon calls. They are beautiful.
