It's come to my attention that some people are calling Fairy cakes "Muffins". So, to settle the IRC arguement, this poll has been created to prove that the above picture is a Fairy Cake. No, I'm not biased at all.

Item of food

Edit: Apparently URLs dont work in poll titles. I'll remember that.

Ofcourse it is a fairy cake. Muffins have bigger heads and are served with coffee. You won't see that being dished out in Costa Coffee.

That's a fairy cake.

As Blue said - Muffins are bigger and you generally won't find a Fairy Cake with Bluberrys in it.

it's a fairy cake, although it would be a better fairy cake if the bit from the top had been cut off, cut in half and the hole filled with icing and the "wings" stuck on!

it's a fairy muffin! I would have chosen both, because I'm neutral like that, but I couldn't, and you didn't have an "other" choice.

But it needs to be blue. I have just decided that. Blue things are good.

it looks like a muffin: it 'pours' over the top; it has 'bits' in it.

Maybe it's a British thing, but across the pond, pretty much everything that looks like that is called a muffin, especially ones with blueberries. WE eat muffins for breakfast, not necessarily with coffee.

EDIT: Mmmm, struesel topping...

I view it as a muffin, considering I've never seen a fairy cake. I love blueberry muffins, so I suppose a fairy cake isn't too bad either.

Muffin. What is this "fairy cake" you speak of?

Besides, the choice is obvious in modern English. You pick the choice with fewer syllables. Och, lazy...heh.

8 and 8, so tongue.gif on you, Greeneyes.

That is a small breakfast muffin. Mmm blueberries. And a-men to artist, less work the better.

And just for all the Americans (aka The Right Ones) they think cupcakes are "fairy cakes", which I don't understand, and they call cookies "biscuits".

it could be either, assuming that this "fairy cake" you people talk of is a cupcake. i will go with muffin though, because it doesn't have icing or sprinkles which cupcakes need. but it is in the paper case, which would make it a cupcake not a muffin. i would need to taste it!

Like I said, it's both! And I really didn't know that...I've never heard of that terminology before...

It's a muffin. As the granddaughter of a baker I would know, and that is definitely a muffin. And because of our lazy generation, we don't like to grease the muffin tin, so we put the paper cups in and put muffin batter in them even though that is muffin heresy! And that is why we are all cunfuzzed. Muffin heresy.

What please is "fairy cake"? I'm not sure I support chopping fairies into bits and making them into food. Magical beings are best left in the environment for the cat to kill and devour. huh.gif tongue.gif

If it's cake batter based then it's probably a cupcake. If it's of a more muffiny texture then I vote it's a muffin. I believe cake to have the more delicate crumb. Coffee is good with either/both/fairies/in the company of cat.

THIS is a fairy cake, with all the normal accessories .. only difference being the slightly arty blue metalic shape-thingy. As mentioned they have a cakey fine-and-almost-moist crumb thing going

THIS is a muffin. They have a more coarse crumb consistency, and tend to have chocolate chips, or blue-berries are whatever in'em.

It looks like fairy-cakes are cupcakes, or at least a type of cupcake. Fairy-cakes are lame little excuses for a cake ... Gimme a muffin anyday

That pic looks like a muffin whose cup overfloweth not.

I find that fairy cakes are more airy and spongy, like mini sponge cakes. Whearas muffins are a bit more stogy and heavy. Fairy cakes tend to be a bit crispyer on top, but not dry. But muffins tend to be very moist.

However the moment 'bits' (ie chocolate chips, or pieces of blueberry) go in to a fairy cake mixture, they turn into muffins.

Fairy cakes, can however have icning and hundreds and thousands on top.

Picture of a decorated fairy cake:

YUMMY YUMMY, IN MY TUMMY

didnt seem to be able to google up any un-decorated fairy cakes.

I personally would call it a "spitler" but that's actually a muffin. Fairy cakes are smaller, less crumbly and don't have things in them and are topped with 1 cherry. That is a muffin.

Fairy cakes are little- hence "fairy". Cos they were the lil cakes fairies ate in Ye Olde Englishe Faerie Tales.

Muffins are big american thingies with bigger tops. I think that's probably a muffin, but I can't really tell the size so I voted fairy cake cos it hasnt got the top bit...
