I just spent 5 freakin' hours making a backpack out of old pants.

But I have to say, it is quite sexy (as is the sewing machine I made it with, and bought when I got the pants to make the sack.)

Sewing machine - $6.95
Pants - About $5.00 maybe?

God I love thrift stores.

Sackity sack!

Ooo! Nice job. I wish I knew how to sew beyond the extreme basics. I even have problems with the buttons which fall off clothes occasionally!

Weird, considering my mother is something of a seamstress and taught home ec. for a long time.

Love the bag!

And I owe it all to guessing...

I didn't measure any cloth at all. I just cut and stitched.

Wow. Nice. I can't stitch straight lines on sewing machines.

No, it's electric, but instead of the little pedal on most sewing machines it has a little bar to the right that you push with your knee. Very, very nice way to operate it. More comfortable than the pedal. Although my mom used to have one of the really old ones that you powered with your feet. Too bad it ended up at my uncle's camp and they claimed it as theirs...

That's some sweet sack you've got there.

As for the machine my aunt has one just like it that was passed down by my great grandmother, although she hasn't used it to make quite a b****in pair of pants as the likes of yours might I add. smile.gif

It was all guessing, I'm really not that good. But if you're talking buying one I'll buy materials if you pay minimum wage, so we're talking about $25 wink.gif

Kidding.

Sweeet! That's awesome. That's something I'd do if I had the time and materials.

I love that old machine. I've got a similar one to that, but mine is entirely hand-driven, which actually can be really handy if you're like me and try to sew through things that are far too thick.
