This has always been a heated discussion in my household. I'm dying to know the public opinion. But also, I'm curious to see what different places other than New York City eat for breakfast.

Oatmeal, with lots of brown sugar, which I lump on top and save for last, after it's carmelised. Wheee, sugar. Or a muffin if there's one to be had.

Toast and a piece of fruit with coffee is my regular breakfast.
Occasionally a muffin. Sometimes cereal and milk if I have time. Usually breakfast is something I take with me in the car as I'm headed to work or school. Bad to eat and drive and spilled coffee is the worst. Um, I don't take the bowl of cereal in the car. Waffles or pancakes happen when there's sleep - in time or guests staying over. -------------------- |

I often avoid breakfast, I seem not to get particularly hungry until mid-afternoon. I do very much like waffles, however.
I should point out that American pancakes are very, very different from English pancakes. Ours are thin and about the size of the plate. You put on whatever topping you want - lemon juice and sugar is a firm national favourite - roll it up or fold it up or whatever, and eat it. Delicious. They're also not eaten for breakfast: they're a dessert, except for on Pancake Day when everyone has them for dinner. -------------------- Every sort of expert knowledge and every inquiry, and similarly every action and undertaking, seems to seek some good. Well Commie, English Pancakes are about the size of the plate, and we put sugar and lemon juice on them, and we roll them up, and we eat them. And ours are delicous.

I'm down with you on not being hungry until later. I can't take much of anything in the morning. I do like brunch. We'll go to Shoney's after church and I'll get mad hungry looking at the breakfast buffet. I went there once with some friends of mine. We ripped through the thing so hardcore.
Hey, do you cats in the UK do brunch or is that an American thing? Also, do people other than southerners like grits (or know what grits is)? Waffles > pancakes, English or American. I've never been fond of crepes (which is what English pancakes are), and American pancakes are too thick for me. Bleh. I don't understand how people can eat a whole stack of them...just one makes me waayy too full. Well, assuming it's a big one that is nearly the size of the plate...the little silver dollar ones...I can maybe eat 2 before I'm ready to explode. They're just too heavy.
However, I usually can't be bothered with waffles for breakfast. I usually have green tea, some water, and a bowl of cereal or some yogurt with a slice of toast. I'm not much for big breakfasts, unless it's Sunday and I've slept in till noon. -------------------- I love you in a way that is mystical and eternal and illegal in 20 states.

@Commie: Oh, I thought you were American. Or Cuban or something.
And crepes are French. Theres a big difference, such as they are eaten by men with berrets. |

I cannot decide between pancakes and waffles. It would be waffles, except a friend of mine makes these delicious chocolate-chip pancakes, and they're still a little gooey when we eat 'em. Crepes...nah.
