Remember when I asked you all to help me find a name for my Angel? The one in the book I'm writing? The stone statue with the longbow and scythe? Big guy, not very nice? No?
Well, regardless of that, I've worked out a shortlist of possibles, and would like you lot to cast your eyes over them, and then maybe pick one out as the one that I should use.
PLEASE VOTE at the very least, even if you don't have any further comment. If you think they're all crap, then vote for the option indicated.
Thanks for your help.

going for zophiel as well...mainly because i can read it without having to go over all the syllables in my head reeeeeeeeally slowly and that it doesn't look like some form of chemical weaponry...

I remember you asking everyone for names before!

I went over the list three times before choosing.... Then, I voted for Zophiel.
Good luck with your book!

I voted for Agrinae. I just like the way it sounds.

Plus, from what you were saying in the first thread about naming your angel, it seems to fit his personality. It's kinda...gruff.

Zophiel, because it's the only name there that sounds angelic, and I'm of the opinion that angel names should sound angelic.

everyone HAS to vote for zophiel now, just so we find out the amusing origin
there is probably a reason why its being voted for, its probably because a lot of actual angelic names are 'ial' and 'phial' and it sounds pretty similar.
anyway, thats my unexpected two cents

Well, I haven't voted yet. But I think that Anashalxus looks kinda bad. I'll pick one out soon.
EDIT: I voted for Amaenos

It's the closest thing to yomangi so I went with Yiarcus
I like Yiarcus, but I voted Aghittax cos somehow, dont know why, it really does sound like a big nasty angel with heavy artillery ...
I liked Agrinae. So I voted for it.
It reminds me of agriculture and I think that's in keeping with the angelic duties of said angel dude.
Or I could be wrong...

Zophiel because according to my book, which happens to be the dictionary of angels including fallen angels, Zophiel is the only real angel on the list.

good job if you just made it up. Zophiel is "god's spy" a spirit invoked in the prayer of the master of the art in solomonic conjuration rites.

In which case, we can scratch him from the list. I had no idea, and I'm not using a real angel. That would defy the point rather...
Bloody good job, as it's the name I was already using, and which I'm trying to replace...

Yes, it would defeat the point. Then in that case I withdraw my vote entirely, since I don't like any of the others.

Furthermore, my problem with Zophiel (now removed from the poll - thanks, Missy!) is that he sounds
too angelic. As I tried to explain in the first post, he's not a nice guy. Filled with a vengence which has matured over millenia, in fact. 'Zophiel' is too floaty and nice...
Meh... I expect people to disagree with me... And yet I still asked...

I like Agrinae...it's pretty yet strong-sounding. Kinda like "Hey, lookit me! I'm so beautiful I make your eyes bleed...and that's exactly what I'll do if you f**k with me! Heh..."
my, I sound all bloody.

If Zophiel had not been on the poll, I would have voted for Amaenos.

No need to apologise, Crissi. It's my fault if it's anyone's.

I didn't think it was particularly 'nice' and such, I just have issues with authors giving angels non-angelic names and demons non-demonic names. I mean, take a look at the Old Testament. Some of the angels there were pretty bad-ass, smiting everyone in sight.
Angelic is not necessarily
nice. And I realise that maybe it's a little facetious of me to take issue with all the other names on the grounds that none of them end in "-el", but I guess I'm just set in my ways.

That's OK, Komrade. We each have our own tastes. Bloody good job, too, else life would get very dull very quickly...
I'm in a draw situation right now (factoring in Crissi's re-vote), so I'll leave this up til the weekend. If it comes down to it, I may just have to set up a vote for the most popular two - very self-indulgent of me, but what the hell?

Neither name ending in '-el', of course...

To address an earlier point of Commie's, though - the names may seem a little random - indeed, a couple of them repulse me with their oddness - but they all have meanings derived from the words I used to create them.
An hour in Warrington library with a stack of foreign dictionaries and a notebook - a perfect way to spend a rainy Monday afternoon, I think...

Looks like I'll be going with Amaenos, then. I've been running it over my tongue the last few days, and I've grown to quite like it...
Thanks once again for your help, citizens!
In case you were wondering, Amaenos was derived from the Welsh for 'farmer' (amaethwr), but with a slightly Greek twist. The most basic of the lot, translation-wise, which is probably why it works...
