I've taken a frame grab from the upcoming halloween animation. 'Not sure if anyone's interested, but I'm really especially pleased with how this looks so I thought I'd show you all... Maybe this should be in 'creations'? Ah well, I'm here now.

1. How do you get scared from something like that?
2. That blue squid toy looks kinda funky.
3. Buh.
4. I look forward to seeing this new animation when it comes out. Glad that not all of the future animations will take a jillion hours to load. 3-D was cool though.

Wow, the color selections, shading, and shadows sets the whole frightening mood/theme. Very well done! The horror classics accomplished this very thing and managed to be some of the most frightening movies ever made. Hitchcock was a master of this. I think that people have gotten so numbed by gruesome in your face special effects the intricacy of situation and mood are lost on them. I like it very much and can't wait for the whole animation.

Yep, picked up "Summer fun Chuthulu" at the local gaming store. He/It sports bermuda shorts, a hawaiian shirt, a straw hat and sandals.
It's the pallor of the children that is mildly disturbing.

yes, white evil kids! not white as in caucasitian, but white as in #FFFFFF

Actually it's #EBEBE6 , I decided the full-on #FFFFFF was too bright.
It's a very simple tale this one, and I'm relying on the atmospherics carrying it off. I guess we'll see whether it works in a week or so when it's done.

Woo that screen shot looks great. The colour scheme is almost exactly the same as my room, freaky. Can't wait for the full animation.

That looks bad ass. I'm thinking it's one of those babysitter urban legends you're working off of. I'm excited.

It's not an urban legend (although I did read one recently about a babysitter and a dwarf clown that really amused me) it's just an odd tale. There's no speech in the whole thing, I'm hoping the mood will make it work. It is more of a subtle creepiness than the last two years.
As usual, I have pre-release jitters about whether people will like it , or even get it... But I think people will... So I'd best get on and finish it then hadn't I?

Hmm... I like the look of it... Who else has noticed that since 'Brother Black Sheep' Mata's style of animating has changed significantly (and maybe even for the better)... From sheepy to 3D to shading to even more shading... Or maybe he's gotten too good for his own... well... good.

I think that it's one of the things that keeps me interested in animating. It's nice to occasionally go back to lo-fi style animating, but I find it harder these days to feel satisfied with that type of animation.
Of course, the time that it takes to make animations is increasing greatly, not helped by the fact that I'm nearly in what will hopefully be the final year of my PhD so I will be spending a huge amount of time on that.
I think my styles of animation have been consistently evolving over the last three years, although it's possible that many of the things that have happened have been in terms of methodologies rather than more noticable visual changes. Recently I have been becoming more accustomed to using a graphics tablet to create images, which of course changes the style of drawing massively. I've not decided yet whether it is for the better or the worse, but either way, I've always tried to make the Halloween animations look a little bit more special, and I think this one lives up to that.
... And for anyone who's around right now, the animation will probably be online before I go to bed tonight.

Hmm... either you go to bed really, really late, or that "probably" was very significant.
Hurry up Mata! You're making me nervous!
Mata
Oct 26 2004, 12:57 PM
Yes, that was definitely a meaningful 'probably'. I had a glass of wine. Then another, then when I went to have a third I noticed I must have been pouring rather larger glasses than I usually do, and had managed to neck most of the bottle. By that point my typing had gone a touch squiffy, so writing the introduction was proving tricky. I decided to cut my loses and go to bed!

Hmm.... Its that evil wine! Grrr.... Its okay though, Mata ^^ Its online now. And its great, I had to watch it twice to understand what happened (cuz I'm silly like that) But its really great, it was rather creepy and I love the colors you picked. I think the skin color for the two boys is great, it makes theem seem rather alien-ish, I think the style is quite like yours too but maybe thats because I've seen one or two things you've drawn/painted that werent done on the computer.
An overall good job! (as I loose my train of thought....)
