Okay, in the new board set-up, in the "Fast Reply" window, there's a box called "Enable email notification of replies", and it's automatically checked. I noticed this when I checked my e-mail this morning and found fifteen e-mail notifying me of replies to threads I'd accidentally subscribed to.
Can this be changed?

I'm working on it because I find it annoying too, but haven't found the setting to alter this yet.
For the moment the best I can suggest is caution when replying and occasionally checking in your My Controls section.
To remove subscriptions go to 'My controls' then in the Subscriptions section click 'View Topics', select them all and click unsubscribe.

You know, there's an option under "Email Settings" on everyone's My Controls section that reads "Enable 'Email Notification' by default? If ticked, choose default type:" There's an option for "No Email Notification". Do you think that if we all set that, it might not keep subscribing us? Or at least quit emailing us?

I have mine set to that but it doesn't seem to stop me getting the default when I use fast reply

I haven't seen anything for it in the admin cp (on another site). I might have missed it though. It might be something that can be changed in the php script?
EDIT: I think I found what to change in an xml file, but I haven't tested it yet.
EDIT #2: It didn't work.

Oni Usagi is a genius and has worked out how to do it. I've put the new code in place and it works like a charm.
For future reference:

I figured out how to set the Enable Tracking box in the fast reply to be unchecked by default. In the Admin CP open the Skins & Templates menu and clike Skin search and replace. Search for Enable. You should get about 4 categories.. The one called topic view should have a result called quick_reply_box_open. click on that. About halfway down the cod is the html for the checkbox called enabletrack. All you have to do is dlelete the checked="checked" from that tag and save the template.
