I'm getting a GameCube, to round off my console collection. Which games do I need to buy for it?

Paging Mr. PsychWardMike, paging Mr. PsychWardMike, there's a call for you at the front desk...

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas!

MarioKart. GO. GET. TEH. MARIOKART. You'll probably conquer it quickly, but it is the pinnacle of "friends-sitting-about-being-bored-oh-look-a-console!" kinds of situations. Everyone can play teh MarioKart, and everyone wants to play teh MarioKart.

Actually, I think I'm going to go play. Right now. I'm going to play MarioKart instead of, uh, "hang out" with my boyfriend. It's that much fun.

Soul Calibur II. Super Smash Brothers Mele. Tales of Symphonia.

Mike will be along soon to give you more, but I can pretty much sum up a good deal of what he'll say:

"Viewtiful Joe. Viewtiful Joe 2. Anything Capcom."

Right, Mike? happy.gif

Soul Calibur.

Soul Calibur II. Its the best beat 'em up for the GC, and everyone knows beat 'em ups are the game of choice for the discerning drunkard and his drunkarder friend.

I'm a huge fan of Resident Evil 4 (CAPCOM!) and Def Jam Vendetta. They're worth a rent if not purchase.

Indeed. And one day, I will type without type-o's

If you like odd simulation-type things, I suggest Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon. They can get a bit tedius sometimes, though. That's when I break out Soul Calibur II or SSBM
PsychWardMike
*runs in* Alright. I'm here.

Okay, so you need a game selection. Each of these is gold.

-Resident Evil 4
-Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
-F Zero GX
-Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
-Soul Calibur 2
-Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requium
-P.N. 03
-Viewtiful Joe
-Super Mario Sunshine
-Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
-Metroid Prime
-Viewtiful Joe 2
-Pure Evil: Resident Evil 0/1 (I'm not quite sure if that one's available in Britain, though)
-Super Smash Bros. Melee
-Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
-Super Monkey Ball
-Super Monkey Ball 2
-Timesplitters 2
-Tales of Symphonia

There you go. That's a list of the must haves, and the greatest part: the only $50 (American) on there are RE4, MK:DD!!, and Tales of Symphonia (I think.) I strongly reccomend Eternal Darkness. It's extremely cheap and has a great Lovecraft-esque storyline. The rest are all gold, too, though.

They'll all give you a helluva bang for your buck.

I'll probably have significant overlap with PWMike, but here goes anyway.

Skies of Arcadia (only if you didn't play it excessively on DC - it looks a little dated now, but it's still an excellant RPG)
Metroid Prime(s)
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
Zelda: Wind Waker
Ikaruga (if you can get it on Fleabay without having to sell some organs to raise the cash)
Soul Calibur 2 (if you haven't got it on another console)
likewise for Burnout 3 (although I'd go for the Xbox version if possible)

Party games:
Bomberman Generations (mmm, 4 player bomberman)
Wario Ware
Zelda: Four Swords (only if your friends have GBAs)

Non-recommendations (i.e. games to not bother with)
Mario Kart - I found it dull to the extreme. Dulldy dull dull. I'm sure it's fun with loads of people and 4 linked Cubes, but otherwise *yawn*
Super Mario Sunshine (only if you see it at bargain-basement price - it's a bit mediocre)
Mata
I wouldn't go as far to call Mario Sunshine mediocre, it's a better-than-compentant platformer. Equally, be aware that it's not the greatest thing on the machine either.
Righteous
My buddy Slam (nickname; long story) was a Paper Mario addict for the longest time. He says that it's a must-have.

Hmm. Pretty much everything I could recommend has already been said. Though I'll go with the flow and put emphasis on stuff I particularly liked:

Eternal Darkness
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Metroid Prime
Viewtiful Joe.

I don't actually own Ikaruga, but I have played it, and it's great.
Mario sunshine is quite good, but not as good as Mario 64.
PN03 I've just bought. It's.....interesting. Worth buying if only to confuse the crap out of oneself.
The law decrees thou shalt not own a GameCube without owning Super Smash Bros. Melée. It is a most vile crime.
And am I the only one who think Pikmin is kinda interesting, even though it be about a tiny spaceman and little flower people? laugh.gif
