Sorry for making so many posts as of late.
I love a good play, really I do. Now that I live in New Jersey and that means fairly near Broadway, I'm trying to go to see some plays. Spamalot, Avenue Q, Phantom of the Opera... the list goes on. I love musicals, what can I say? (I'm just a little gay!)
Of course, I like normal plays, too. I've seen Much Ado About Nothing twice (each with different, though incredibly interesting settings - 1920s America and Civil War southern America). I've seen The Crucible, and would like to see The Frogs.
And even more theatre - I've been in a school production of "Clue" (Cluedo for you Brits!) and am now in a school production of "Footloose." Fun stuff, baby.
So which plays have you seen/would you like to see/have you acted in?

Phantom of the Opera was the first play I had ever seen, and by far the best. The music still inspires me. Cabaret also left an impression on me, but moreso because of the scene and plot. (The final scene is amazingly powerful). Hated Moving Out.....probably because I didn't know that there was NO actual talking in the entire thing (I need diologue, even monologue when I watch a play).
As for acting......I played an awesome 1st pig in my school's rendition of the three little pigs when I was in 2nd grade, but that's about it. I imagine I could if I wanted to though. Certainly have the pipes for musicals.
And there are 2 right now that I desperately want to see. Jeckyl and Hyde and Spamalot. Though I do believe I may get dragged off to see Rent this summer, which should be quite fun.

I've seen so much.... The two that are standing out in my exhausted mind the most right now are Miss Saigon and The Man of La Mancha. So amazing, both of them... When that helicopter lifted off the stage of the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, I was crying so hard....

I've seen Man of La Mancha, Wicked and Rent , all of which I enjoyed a lot. I've heard music from Avenue Q and am dying to see it. The original Into The Woods was awesome--I really love Stephen Sondheim's music. (Sweeney Todd is kickass)
Off topic: Anyone remember the scene in Camp when he shows up to one of the plays and everyone storms him? I'm the kid on the right. With the wonky hair. Screaming.
I've seen Jeckyll and Hyde and Kiss Me, Kate in a local theater, and liked them both, but the former a bit more. I got to be Carmen and Mabel (in seperate scenes) in Fame!
Yes, interestingly enough, I am going to live forever.
Wow. I'm a musical nerd.

I find regular plays.... dull. I love musicals, though. I'm in a summer theatre every year, and I've been in Fiddler on the Roof, Music Man, Cinderella, and Bye Bye Birdie. I saw Phantom of the Opera on Saturday, and adored it. I got so into the film, I didn't even realize how long it was.
I'm dying to see Wicked...

Oscar Wilde. Full stop, that's it.
A bit vague, yesh. But I'm a big Oscar Wilde fan, and I'd die to go and see him performed. I really enjoy his use of language and curtained sexuality.
I'd like to see The Importance of Being Earnest the most, but often it's hard to find, let alone get tickets to.
I saw The Vagina Monologues about a year and a half ago and I must say it's incredible. Very emotive, and just witty in every sense of the word. I urge everyone to see it, and read it.

My school did The Importance of Being Earnest a few years ago and mangled it. I was so sad! Lady Bracknell must be the coolest character to come out of that time period. "It is fitting for a man to either know everything or know nothing"--her lines are so very funny and the girl I saw play her was so very flat and quiet. (see syuu's sig for more of her lines)
I have a great collection of Oscar Wilde's stuff that's a total mess from my writing on it and reading it and dropping it in the bath and so on. But I love it so.
*ceases lovefest for Wilde*
I really wanted to see I Am My Own Wife but I don't think it's still on. Spamalot has Tim Curry in it. It's written by the Monty Python people. I'm going to have to see it.

Oh, my school's doing the Sound of Music--my all time favorite musical-- and the casting was all wrong. They're ruining it for me... *sigh*

The Sound of Music? I've built sets for it and played the music in the pit band. It's tiring and boring, in my humblest of opinions... I'm not a fan.
I probably could quote the entire thing, anyway, though.

Anyone got the Spamalot soundtrack, yet? Bloody brilliant!

I've got it... good stuff. Talk to that rat bastard ArtistUnknown, though. She's seen it. I hate her.*

I've seen some good plays. Being able to go to them have always been gifts, so somehow I've never gone to see a play on my own dime.
I have seen:
Spamalot (original cast-Tim Curry, David Hyde-Pierce, Hank Azaria)
Sweeny Todd
Wicked
The Taming Of The Shrew in ballet
The Wayward Daughter in ballet.
and I saw Capitol Steps perform.
I still want to see Rent though and am hoping for a chance to see it.

Not really seen any plays that were professionally done

Although I'm seeing Phantom of the Opera on Broadway August 13th. (SQUEE!) Also, might get dragged out to Rent in September. I've seen my old school back in IL do the Wizard of Oz (as a regular play) and Damn Yankees (musical). I must say I thought they were pretty good.

I've heard sountracks to a lot of musicals and seem some things performed unprofessionally as well (Les Mis by a local young adult/kid's theater).

I'm going to see Billy Elliot next Tuesday which should be a laugh. Apparantly there are three performers who play Billy and so each of their dances are different according to their strengths. However, people have said that one is better than the other two. I hope he's the one performing for us.

I love all the old Julie Andrews musicals...
I saw Hairspray in Chicago. It was really good. I may be invloved in a production of Fiddler on the Roof soon, but we'll see.
Oh, and it is my dearest dream to go see Wicked soon, before it leaves Chicago.

I used to leave really close to Chicago... moved before I saw Wicked.

I"ll be waiting until it's in NY again...

I've seen Rent. It's amazing. And I'm really really hoping that they don't mangle the movie version of it.
I've seen the Mouse Trap, a couple of Oscar Wilde's, Hamlet when we went to Stratford-on-Avon...
Best out of them== Oscar Wilde, and Rent.

I went to see that! Was it with the Reduced Shakespeare Company? It was genius. They even tried doing hamlet backwards!

I saw La Cage aux Folles.. I think that's how its spelled... but, holy crap that was awesome, I wouldn't mind seeing that again. Then I saw Wait Until Dark, and I found I liked plays, but I liked musicals much, much more. I also found that if the actors stink in a play, its much worse than actors sucking in a movie. South Pacific was ruined for me because the actors were *that* bad. I'd love to see Phantom of the Opera, Pigmylion (spelling), and The Sound of Music before I die.

Yeah! I think that was one of the best productions I've ever seen, that was not a musical.

Woo! A topic I can post in knowledgeably!
I *love* musicals, theatre, some opera. They rock. I saw Les Miserables with school for my As level, and it was just amazing. The music blew me away. The other memorable one was The Magic Flute (In german with surscripts lol). We saw Glyndebourne perform it... I've never heard such a beautiful set of voices.

As a bit of a flimsy rule, I hate musicals, and I think that Andrew Lloyd Webber is a smarmy t*** who should stop writing.
*phew!*
Sorry, had to get that out of my system.
I love Alan Bennet's talking heads, and I actually find Shakespeare funny...
I have acted in Wind in the willows, The tempest and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and helped do the lighting and sound for Medea, all with amateur theatre companies. My sister is currently working at the Edinborough festival with some people from her Uni.
I'm sure you all wanted to know that...

I currently in the most crappy summer-theater-camp production of Chicago ever. I love it, and kick ass in my one line. Not bitter. No.
I've also been witness to one of the most adorable shows ever, containing small children and a medley of show tunes. It was in a barn and the kids were atomic bombs of cuteness, but other than that I've not seen any shows since my last post.

Have any of you seen Secret Garden? I saw a community theattre production that some of my friends were in, and it was good.
On a totally differemt side note, I'm not so sure I like Sondheim's music. Sure, he's a classic, but to me it's not as lyrical as say, Rogers & Hammerstein (they they do get much more cliché/cheesy)

I went to go and see Pride & Prejudice performed outside a house in which Jane Austin used to stay. I was bitterly disappointed. The music fell to pieces. The majority of the actors and actresses were about as wooden as the chairs we sat on. The beginning was eternally long and the end incredibly short. Also, many times people forgot there lines and missed out rather important parts of the play.

I've also seen Fame (on 42nd street)
as well as: Fiddler On The Roof

I saw South Pacific a couple weeks ago. It was suprisingly funny for being written 50-60 years ago. I'm sure I've seen some others, but not recently enough that I remember them.

I've heard that Harvey Fierstein is playing Tevya in Fiddler, and Rosie O'donnell has been hired to play Golda, his wife... hmmm. Two gay actors as an older jewish couple, in an arranged marriage... This is either sheer lunacy, or absolute brilliance in casting...
