Okay, so here you go. I'm in a band - I'm a concert tubist. Yeah, I'm a dork. Woo hoo! Not the point. I want to know who your favorites are. Mozart's pretty great! Beethoven's 9th is amazing! Bach's Mass in B Minor is amazing! Hell, John Williams is pretty damn good too.

Who are your favorite composers of symphonic music?

Chh....suuuuure, make it all about symphonic. Ignore the choral greats.

Have you SEEN Mozart's Ahleluia chorus? My voice coach taught me that- beats the heck out of some symphonic stuff (though I admit, it's a solo piece, so it's viewed differently)

As a choral classical piece- Mozart's (yes, I'm a dork -I'm even reading his biography for the fun of it-) Psalm 113. Four seemingly independent melodies (that converge at precise moments) and four almost completely different texts.....*sigh* I loves it so, so much.

When I get home to look up my voice lesson folder, I'll put a bunch more in here.

I don't know much about classical... But I do like Holst's planet suite...

I am in love with Bach forever. The Inventions, Brandenburg Concertos, and Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Great music there.

I'm also a fan of Antonin Dvorak, Paul Hindemith, Dmitri Shostakovich, Modest Mussorgsky, and Sergei Prokofiev. Not to mention the more modern David Gillingham and Alfred Reed.

I too am a classical/symphonic music nerd.

Faure's Requiem has been a favourite of mine for a long time. It really is astonishingly beautiful, and Bach's Mass in B Minor has already been mentioned.

A friend of mine said that she didn't like classical music, so I took her to hear that performed in a candlelight concert in Winchester Cathedral. She changed her mind smile.gif

I remember a while ago in primary school when we were asked about what songs we like to listen to. I remember distinctly crossing out 'song' and putting in "mooffmemt" or something simularly badly spelt. This was after I'd just heard and fell in love with Ludwig Van.

(After re-telling that story a few years ago a friend pointed me in the direction of Clockwork Orange)
