I think it's a wiccan symbol but I really don't know.
Coyote Max, an occasional visitor here, uses a very similar symbol for their avatar and his/her linked website is very much a wiccan site.

I always thought roman numeral 8 was VIII and that that symbol was roman numeral twelve XII.
I don't know - but this is a case for only one man... Mr Mata!

12 is indeed XII, but IIX is 8, in teh same way that XI is 11 but IX is 9, a low roman numeral before a highone indicates that you take the low away from the high.

Not to be really picky but you can only take one value away from the higher one (ie IX not IIX).
So 8 is VIII.
Edit: However the symbol is a part of a piece of artwork, which is never going to be all straight lines and 90 degree angles. So perhaps there is a reason, but no one will ever know...

You're mostly way off the mark at the moment.

I know what it means, but then again I would do considering I made it up. It does have a meaning, and 'no' I'm not going to explain it yet, it would give away too much (although the things that it would give away are pretty obvious I think).

DLCP has got it right with my alternative reading of the symbol. It either means what I think it does _or_ it's a picnic table on its side. Or maybe it's the symbol of a secret cult that really hates picnics?

Well, its not a very secret cult anymore, is it. If I were you, I'd watch my back, because we're they're probably coming to get you now.

Hmm... This might be the twelve years of Catholic school education talking, but if you glance at that symbol, it looks like a Ichthus (Jesus fish) with the head chopped off.
Although it may also mean that Mata is an evil poohead.

From waht ive been taught that is only a matter of preferance, orignaly VIII was preferd but IIX was acceptable, Inm pritty sure ive seen IIX in some orignal bits hear and there..

I'm guessing, because I don't really know for sure, but...
The flat-headed-fish part of the symbol also appears in a symbol representing the devil ("The Sigil of Lucifer"). So my assumption is that it represents Satan ? It isn't quite the same symbol, as the 'Sigil of Lucifer' has an extra bit on it. But the connection is there.
To me, Mata's symbol says, "I Lucifer".

All I'd like to say is thank you Mata for not cheesing out and using a pentagram.
Mata
Mar 11 2005, 01:18 PM
No chance of that happening. I've got plans for where this is all going and I needed a symbol that represented precisely what I wanted it to, and the pentagram has its own meaning which is inappropriate for my needs.

Who said that Lucifer was the one using it? It seems to me (and I'll admit that I could be off my rocker) that the symbol could be used, and might even be more likely used, to call or summon him. And bearing in mind Sarah's relation to him, it would seem reasonable that the symbol (which in this instance may be modified, as indicated by Hobbes) could also be used as a tool for summoning her.
just a thought...

Just place some eyeliner under a net, and when lgg skips over to it, pull the net down onto her head.
