Van Halen - Hot For Teacher
System of a Down - Chop Suey
Alice in Chains - Don't Follow
The Doors - The End
Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
Meat Puppets - Oh me
The Ventures - Hawaii 5-0 theme
Weird Al Yankovich - Polka Power
Alice in Chains - I Am Inside

Hmm, not terrible, but that was a very lucky pick from my computer there.

1. Life On Mars? - Bowie, David
2. Train In Vain - Lennox, Annie
3. What You Don't Do For Love - Go West
4. Take, Take, Take - White Stripes, The
5. Union Of The Snake - Duran Duran
6. I Never Came - Queens Of The Stone Age
7. Beatles Medley - Take That
8. These Boots Are Made For Walking - Sinatra, Nancy
9. HIStory - Jackson, Michael
0. Gold - Spandau Ballet

Hmm... #7's presence was allowed by a compilation album which, for some absurd reason, felt that it was a valuable addition to the tracks. It is not a track I would have ripped selectively.

The rest, I can accept.

Meh, I'm bored, so I might as well do it again:

1. Clocks - Coldplay
2. Learning How To Smile - Everclear
3. LSF (Lost Souls Forever) - Kasabian
4. Ways and Means - Snow Patrol
5. End of a Century - Blur
6. Elevation - U2
7. She Drove Me to Daytime Television - Funeral For a Friend
8. Nil - The Cardigans
9. Junk of the Hearts - The Cardigans
10. Jenny Was a Friend Of Mine - The Killers

Hmm, that's not so bad. Surprising that no Feeder came up, but o well. The only slightly embarrassing one on there is Elevation. I really can't stand U2 - I just think they're bland and uninspired.

Ditto.

1. I Believe - Tears For Fears
From CD #1 of a greatest hits double-album I have. This CD is high up in my list of favourites, as I love every track on the album. This particular track, incidentally, is probably my least favourite of them all. But I still like it.

2. Nocturnal Pleasure - Meat Loaf
I haven't heard this track before, as I bought the album (Dead Ringer) a few weeks ago and have yet to listen to it in its entirety. And... oh... well, the track lasted about thirty-seven seconds. So... hmm... not much to say about it really. I love the album: Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell. Which is why I went out and bought Dead Ringer (as well as the original Bat Out Of Hell).

3. She Has No Time - Keane
I am ashamed to say that I have never properly listened to all the album tracks from Keane's 'Hopes & Fears'. I always seem to skip to the singles, which I know well and love. So I only vaguely know this track. It's pretty good.

4. I Love To Laugh - Mary Poppins Cast
Hehe biggrin.gif My mum used to hate this song.

5. Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Guns 'N' Roses
GnR being wonderfully commercial. A pretty good song.

6. 1999 - Prince
I have to be in the right mood for Prince, as sometimes his squeaking and whining is incredibly irritating. This particular song is fairly devoid of all that tom-foolery though, so is easier on the ears.

7. Remember The Time - Michael Jackson
I've always liked the music of Michael Jackson; despite the press, the rumours, the reports, the... etc. It's just good pop music smile.gif I grew up listening to it, so it'll always feature heavily in my playlists.

8. Church Of The Poison Mind - Culture Club
Culture Club's two other main hits ('Karma Chameleon' and 'Do You Really Want To Hurt Me') drive me mad. Boy George's voice just doesn't appeal to me. This particular song is an improvement on them. But I'd still rather not listen to Culture Club at all.

9. So Long - ABBA
Not a song I especially know.

10. Mandela Day - Simple Minds
I believe they have a new album out, or coming out?

^ Not too bad a collection. Seems to be incredibly pop-based, full of heavily commercial groups wink.gif Which, to be perfectly honest, isn't really that bad a representation of the music I own. Heh
spuglet
This'll be an odd one, I always have my MWP on all music/shuffle, so I'll just list the next 10 randoms.

1. There she goes, The Las.
2. While My Guitar Gently Weeps, The Beatles.
3. Little Green Bag (Reservior Dogs Soundtrack)
4. Galapogos, The Smashing Pumpkins
5. 3 the Hard Way, Beastie Boys
6. Rhythm is a dancer (Not sure who did that 'un)
7. Supermarioland (Again, can't remember.)
8. Walk On By, The Stranglers
9. I'll live when I'm alive..., Bon Jovi
10. Grease Paint and Monkey Brains, White Zombie.

(Phew, it avoided the really bad!)
syuu

6. Radiohead - Talk Show Host
7. Blur - Tender
8. Placebo - Running Up That Hill
9. Polaroid - So Damn Beautiful

Drunken Butterfly- Sonic Youth
Nyja Lagid- Sigur Rose
Gardenhead- Neutral Milk Hotel
Alternative to Love- Brandon Benson
Take the Skinheads Bowling- Camper Van Beethoven
Hyrule Field Main Theme- Koji Kondo

edit: number 11 is Steve Wonder's "I Wish". Funkalicious.
Hobbes
1. Wouldn't It Be Good - Nik Kershaw
2. Angel - Massive Attack
3. All That She Wants - Ace of Base *cringe*
4. Blind Man - Aerosmith
5. A Man Called Ironside - Theme
6. Help Yourself - Tony Ferrino
7. A View To A Kill -Duran Duran
8. I Wonder Why - Curtis Stigers
9. Single - Natasha Bedingfield
0. It Ain't What You Do It's The Way That You Do It - Fun Boy Three with Bananarama

Hmm... a rather poppy collection.
CheeseMoose
I remebered this earlier when looking to see how many tracks I have on my computer (4303 for all you trivia buffs). So:

1) Green Day - Sweet Children
Okay...

2) Mr Fuzzy - Pronouncing Mata
Okay, I wasn't expecting that

3) Slipknot - Pulse of the Maggots
Argh! Save me from my sister's nu-metal

4) Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Parallel Universe
A good song at last

5) Nirvana - In Bloom
Meh

6) Savage Garden - The Best Thing
I didn't even know that was on here

7) Donots - Time's Up
Great song

8) Robbie Williams - Something Beautiful
Bah, musical embarrassment

9) Muse - Megalomania
An okay song

10) Bif Naked - Make Like a Tree
Meh again

One day I will do this and get a list I'm happy with
Novander
1. Let Go - Spotlights
Okay, I don't remember ever hearing of this band or this song. I'm listening to it now for what could be the first time. Its good. Kinda pop-punky, but more mature. Or something.

2. Linkin Park - The Down Syndrome
A couple of songs I had which claimed to be by Linkin Park actually weren't, so I'm not totally sure about this one. It sounds like them, but its not great.

3. Jimmy Eat World - What Would I Say To You Now?
Oh man, this song. Its great. Its on Singles. You know the really emo blogs where they quote song lyrics all the time and talk about how it means so much to them. Well, when I feel the need to do that, I use this song.

4. Shadows Fall - The Power Of I And I
Good or bad, I'm listening to all of these top 10 songs. And this is definitely bad. It came on the Take Action vol. 4 CD I bought, so I can forgive myself for owning it. Actually, listening to it, its not so bad. Just kinda bland metal. In a word: Forgettable.

5. Hundred Reasons - Drowning
Excellent song. When I first heard Hundred Reasons, I couldn't stand the singer's voice, but after I heard Falter, I became a convert.

6. My Vitriol - Losing Touch
This is one of the tracks on their Finelines album that I never listen to. Its good, though. Whatever happened to My Vitriol? I think I heard rumours that they've finally got a new album coming out. Anyone want to enlighten me?

7. From Autumn To Ashes - Reflections
I didn't know any FATA when I first bought this album. It wasn't at all what I expected, and I didn't like it. As my taste in music progressed, I started to like it more and more until now I'm a huge FATA fan. Brilliant intro.

8. System of a Down - Psycho
Its good, but you knew that already. Bit of a filler track, this one. Chop Suey! is still their best song.

9. Bright Eyes - At The Bottom Of Everything
I like this song. It starts with a little story. Probably one of Bright Eyes' most accessable albums.

10.Brand New - Soco Amaretto Lime (The Moleman Remix)
One of the few remixes I actually like. Actually, Linkin Park were at number 10 but we've already had one of their songs (probably).

Not a bad selection there. Shame about the Shadows Fall. 4502 songs to choose from, with another 12 or so on their way from Amazon at the moment in the form of The Appleseed Cast - Mares Vitalis.
crazymat
I was bored too..

1. My Morning Jacket - Just because I do (I dont like this at all, gonna delete it)
2. The Decemberists - A cautionary song
3. Rammstein - Ohne dich
4. Tykwer, Kilmek, Heil - Introduction (from Run Lola Run soundtrack)
5. Project Pitchfork - Fleischverstärker
6. The Postal Service - Recycled Air
7. Billy Talent - Try Honesty
8. Blutengel - Stay
9. Enon - Litter in the gutter
10. Clan of Xymox - It's not enough
I_am_the_best
1) Track 16 I think this is 'The 6th Station' by Joe Hisaishi. I love it.
2) Protège Moi - Placebo Ooooh, Brian Molko. *sigh*
3) Ding A little song about 12 seconds long which my friend made. It's pretty good really.
4) Welcome to the Jungle - Guns n Roses Too good, too good.
5) Lullaby - Jack Johnson _What_ is this doing here?! Urgh, shameful.
6) The Crawl - Placebo More Brian.
7) Narcoleptic - Placebo Would ya look at that.
8) Track 1 I think this is 'A Summer's Day' by Joe Hisaishi.
9) Passepied - Debussy Love it.
10) Special K - Placebo Yay!

I'm not too embarrassed, but Jack Johnson, it's not my fault... my friend sent it to me and I told him it was boring. I shall never live it down.
Hobbes
From 4637 songs:

1. Walking On The Moon - The Police
Good song. No embarassment here. My step-nephew's girlfriend is in a band that often does covers of Police songs. Good choice, I say.

2. Ashes to Ashes - David Bowie
One of his more commercial songs. I like it's self-referentialism. Was this a #1? I forget... still, it is very good.

3. We Can Run Away Now They're All Dead & Gone - Snow Patrol
I don't know any of their music, despite owning their album 'Final Straw'. This song seems quite nice - I should really listen to the rest of their stuff that I own.

4. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go - Wham!
Hmm. Embarassed? Me? No... anyone that knows me should be well aware that I am a sucker for 80s music. And sometimes, I let myself slip into the cheesy pop sector of that. Still, this isn't the kind of song I would put on when trying to impress someone.

5. Intuition - Natalie Imbruglia
I don't know this song. It sounds 'okay'. Natalie Imbruglia is hot though, so I can let it slide.

6. Dalai Lama - Mecano
A Spanish group. I am not sure whether or not they are still around. The double-album that I own is a greatest hits, and seems to suggest that the group split up? I bought it because during A-Level Spanish we listened to one of their songs, so I tried to find some more stuff. Turned out that I also already knew another of their songs (Un Año Más) from some random cassette of tunes my sister owned.

7. Once You've Tasted Love - Take That
No. No No No. If nothing else, this group's appearance inspired a post in the 'Make Up A Rumour About Mata' thread. This song sounds awful.

8. Monument - Ultravox
Some Ultravox stuff is incredible. Some of it less so. The complete lack of vocals in this song really stretches my patience. Definitely in the "less so" category.

9. Sun Street - Katrina & The Waves
I don't know this song at all. Sounds suitably 'joyful', as one would expect from The Waves.

10. You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night) - Meat Loaf
From the lyrical absence of Ultravox's Monument above, to this song which features an entirely spoken intro. This is fairly typical Meat Loaf stuff really, from 'Bat Out Of Hell'. Personally, I prefer 'Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell'.

I love him! I got the soundtrack to Spirited Away some time ago and just fell in love with his stylings... good job for you, liking him. High five.

Ehm.

1) Fables of Faubus- Charles Mingus. Ahhhhh jazzy deliciousness
2) Stash- Phish. Not surprising.
3) The Bachelor and the Bride- The Decemberists. I love them with a deep love, but I'm not fond of this wispy, pointless female harmony. Sing, dammit!
4) Gimme Some Salt- Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Um, who reads too much Questionable Content? Not me. Nope.
5) Field Trip USA- Moonbabies- indie-ish trip-pop. Lovely.
6) Rush of Love- ccc. Agggghhh! This is fantastic! That Coldplay song with the sitars that I always mixed up with the Beatles' "Love You To" was mashed with aforementioned Beatles song by this group of dj's and spliced with some bizarre Irish man yelling about Jesus. Go download it now.
7)Enjoy Your Worries, You May Never Have Them Again- the Books. Hm. My iPod has taken a serious turn for the trip-poppy. This is also fantastic, kind of techno, but well-managed.
8) Seek Up-Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. This is off of "Live At Luther College", which is one of my favorite CDs of all time. It's things from DM's solo record but much less harshly done and overall swell.

Don't have time for the other two...
MrRandomQuotes
Well lets see how this goes... God knows what will come out with the masses of music on my PC.

*crosses fingers and hopes nothing embaressing pops up*

Cold, Cold Night - White stripes
Township Rebelion - Rage against the machine
Prisoner of Today - Billy Talent
Didjerama - Jamiroquai
Hateful - Clash
The Lost souls - AFI
Rusted Embrace - Killswitch engage
Holy Names - Pretty girls make graves
Control This - The dead 60's
Deep - Pearl jam

Well that wasnt too bad. Phew.

1) Family Guy - Rock Lobster
But it wasn't a rock, it was a rock lobster!
Excellent version of the B52s song

2) Iron Maiden - Rainmaker
Awesome song

3) Muse - Minimum
Meh

4) Staind - Reality
I dislike this song

5) Violent Delight - Same Old Story
Not one of their best songs but all their songs are good. Anyone who hasn't heard any of VDs songs really should.

6) Bob Marley and the Wailers - Exodus
Great song

7) Iron Maiden - Wasting Love
An okay song

8) Green Day - Best Thing in Town
Bad song

9) The Hives - Hate to Say I Told You So
Okay, haven't heard it for ages

10) Weird Al Yankovic - Amish Paradise
Yay! End on a high note!

Quite a good selection
Hobbes
1. Indestructible (Shagsonic Dub) - Alisha's Attic
A not-especially-good remix of an okay song.

2. Dog Eat Dog - Adam & The Ants
There is no denying that most of the Adam Ant / Adam & The Ants songs were all fairly samey, with just two or three stand-outs. This song only stands out for being quite awful.

3. Murder - Coldplay
A b-side from the God Put A Smile Upon Your Face single. It is quite a good song, but understandably a b-side. It is minimally catchy.

4. Good Intentions - Toad The Wet Sprocket
I don't know what this band's other songs sound like, as I only own this via the Friends soundtrack CD. But I like this song. I believe the group was fairly big at one point?

5. A Gift - 'Sleepy Hollow' soundtrack
I saw this film at the cinema, and liked the music so bought the CD. I have since found that the music is only really fitting with the film's events, so unless a headless horseperson enters my life, I will have little use for this CD.

6. I Call Your Name - A-Ha
A-Ha released a couple of songs that are regarded as 80's "classics". This song isn't known to me, but seems fairly standards 80's pop.

7. Back Door Man - Sarah McLachlan
From the album 'Solace', which I find the hardest to enjoy. This song is okay.

8. What If - Coldplay
From 'X&Y', an album that I love dearly, and that many others berate meticulously. This song is not one of my favourites on the album, but I do like it.

9. That's What They Call The Didgeridoo - Rolf Harris
Well. I own a Rolf Harris CD. So there.

10. Josephine - Tori Amos
Quite a nice song. Not particularly preferred over several others, but still quite good.
little_bear
1. Vertigo - U2.
I absolutely despise this song. Quite why it's on my MP3 player, I don't know. I find U2 so bland, uninspired and boring it's almost not true.

2. Tender - Feeder.
Off their Pushing the Senses album. Again, I'm not particularly fond of this song. But, once it gets going, it's a pretty decent track.

3. If You Tolerate This - Manic Street Preachers.
Man I love The Manics. This is a fantastic song - I hadn't heard it for ages until I saw a friend listening to it on MSN Messenger and downloaded it. Brilliant.

4. Fistful Of Steel - Rage Against The Machine.
Hmm, RATM's self titled album (from which this is a track) is absolutely blinding, but this is one of the weaker titles on it. Still good though.

5. Flylife - Basement Jaxx.
Eugh, I can't stand this song. Possibly because I have no idea what the bloke is singing about.

6. Forgive - Feeder.
A decent song from Polythene. This was back in their 'heavy' days. It's a good song, but there are better on the album, such as Decend, High and Cement. Great when it gets going though.

7. Because I Got It Like That - Jungle Brothers.
Ah, this is such a fun song. Never fails to bring a smile. Pretty damn funky too.

8. Caroline, Yes - Kaiser Chiefs.
I used to be a massive fan of the KCs, but as their I Predict A Riot became so overplayed I wanted to tear my eyes out, I kinda went off them. I liked them because they seemed pretty indie, but now they've sort of merged into 'kiddie-pop'. Shame. There are still some really good songs on the album though, of which this is one.

9. Bliss - Muse.
I really like this song. Not much else to say about it really.

10. Hotride - The Prodigy.
Ah, I love this song. It's the best on the Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned album. So groovy.
CheeseMoose
1) Weird Al - Amish Paradise
Pretty funny, and the great thing is, you can make fun of the Amish on the 'Net and they'll never know

2) Tenacious D - One Note Song
Meh, its not even a song.

3) Nirvana - You Know You're Right
It's okay but not great

4) Alanis Morrisette - Unsent
That's .... not mine

5) The White Stripes - Well It's True That We Love Each Other
Quite funny, but not really good

6) Joel Veitch, Alex Veitch, Mike Baker, Tim Gallagher - Half a Guava
Great song

7) Turisa - Battle Metal
Very stirring and great for playing at full volume at 3am on Saturday

8) The Offspring - Dammit, I Changed Again
Meh

9) Bob Marley and the Wailers - I Shot the Sheriff
Finally another good song

10) RHCP - Can't Stop
Okay song
JimiJimi
I now officially have more music on my mp3 player than on my computer since I wiped it.

So, random pick from Mr. Shuffle:

Metal Gear Solid, Legend of the Snake - Reuben Kee
This is a fantastic remix of the theme from Metal Gear Solid.

Good For You - Toto
As a good friend of mine said, 'Nowt embarrasin' 'bout likin' Toto. Well, there is, but y'know'. Needless to say, he was from up North.

Make Believe - Toto
See above.

Would - Alice in Chains
One of my favourite songs of all time. Absolutely fantastic, if you don't like Alice in Chains already you really should.

I Stay Away - Alice in Chains
Very good song with a very good video. From their acoustic album, 'Jar of Flies', it's much less dark then their other songs.

Dam That River - Alice in Chains
Very heavy, but not depressingly so. Great song to jump around the house to.

Metal Gear Solid, Main Theme - Konami
So I like Metal Gear Solid. Big deal. tongue.gif But anyway, this is a classic. In fact, I'm gonna listen to this before I go onto to the next shufflified track. Plus, it has a synth guitar solo!

Am I Inside - Alice in Chains
From their other acoustic album, Sap. This album came out a bit before Jar of Flies, and is more dark.

Got me Wrong - Alice in Chains
Not one of their dark songs, but with a very strong rhythm. Another great song.

Hot for Teacher - Van Halen
The 80s version of 'What I go to School For', except this has one of the cheesiest videos I have ever seen (even moreso than Jump), has a great thumping drum beat at the start, a very very hard tapping section on top of that, and is full to the brim with innuendo. 'I brought my pencil, give me something to write on!'

1. Of Montreal - Lysergic Bliss
2. Windmill - All The Birds
3. The Beatles - Let It Be
4. Coal Chamber - Loco
5. Ozzy - No More Tears
6. Mustard Plug - Miss Michigan
7. Mustard Plug - Get It Goin' On
8. No idea what song this is, something blue grass.
9. Lautsprecher - Omnibus
10. Arockalypse ATM - Robot Nation

Well, I had my fun. I think.

1. Matchbook Romance - Stay Tonight
This CD I bought because it was on my Amazon.co.uk recommendations list. I don't regret it.

2. Mest - I Melt With You

It seems every band ever has covered this song (originally by Modern English, I think). Mest's punk-pop version is probably my favourite. The one used in that mobile phone advert is alright. Saves The Day's version is godawful though. Avoid it at all costs.

3. Circa Survive - In Fear And Faith
Typical new-wave-of-emo stuff. Its not bad if you like that stuff - which I do - but its not something I'd recommend

4. Sunny Day Real Estate - Round
This song. Listen to it now. Its awesome. This is real old school emo, and you'd better damn well like it. In fact, you should all buy the album this is on, Diary, because it has the best album art ever. My ex really liked it so I gave it to her for her birthday or something. Biggest sacrifice I've ever made. Given how influential SDRE were on modern emo I'm surprised at how hard it is to get hold of this album.

5. Weezer - Getchoo
Weezer were the first gig I went to, waaaay back in 2002. They were great. This is on Pinkerton, which is most people's favourite album, it seems, but I always preferred the Blue album.

6. The Kinison - I Have Something To Say

I don't know this track. I bought their album on the strength of the single You'll Never Guess Who Died. Its alright, but I don't listen to it that much.

7. The Juliana Theory - You Always Say Goodnight, Goodnight
They're like the Westlife of emo. I like them, but theres a defninte boybandness to their stuff.

8. Finch - Past Script

Oh. God. Yes.

9. Radiohead - Thinking About You

I seem to be the only person in the world who likes Pablo Honey more than anything post The Bends. And this is the best song on it.

10. The Lightning Seeds - What If

The first band I ever loved. And I still do, much to the distaste of my housemate.
gothictheysay
bored and not knowing what to listen to = shuffle time

1. Andrew Lloyd Webber - Music of the Night
*shameless Phantom of the Opera fan*
2. Simon and Garfunkel - Old Friends
Beautiful song. They're from the same era as the Beatles, but different. Oldies, yay. happy.gif
3. The Mamas and the Papas - Make Your Own Kind Of Music
...bleah. I have their greatest hits CD thingy, but I've never been a fan of this one.
4. Bonnie Raitt - About To Make Me Leave Home
I remember loving Raitt as a child ("Daddy is this Bunny Raitt?!" I'd always ask) so I found my dad's old CDs and, not remembering exactly what I liked, burned one on so far. I suppose this track's okay.
5. Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
I don't own later zeppelin stuff, which from track-by-track listening is what I prefer... so I should get around to buying some... but I like this one.
6. Andrew Lloyd Webber - The Swordfight
This track has no point except to sound all ominous and grunty. My shuffle likes Phantom tonight.
7. Original Cast Recording - What Is This Feeling?
Guess it's a musical night. >_<
8. Paper Lace - The Night Chicago Died
My dad bought a CD set of "songs that tell a story" off TV. I can't find the first disc to burn on, but this is from the second. I like, but I don't listen to it often.
9. Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex - Opening 1, Inner Universe
Despite not actually seeing the show yet (working on that) my friend sent me this song, which is really pretty, and I listen to it often.
10. Black Sabbath - Cornucopia
And a nice end with some metal!
haunted tape-dispenser
1. The Pillows: Little Busters
2. Flogging Molly: Screaming at the Wailing Wall
3. Turmion Katilot: Paha Ihmien
4. The Pillows: Last Dinosaur
5. The Pillows: Waiting at the Busstop Stoushin
6. Turmion Katilot: Kirosana
7. Turmion Katilot: Sika!
8. Gorillaz: 19/2000
9. Flogging Molly: Another Bag of Bricks
10. System of a Down: The ledged of Zelda Theme

I listen to all music for the same reason: I like it. Plus, most of this stuff is insanely happy. Listen to anything by The Pillows and try not to smile.

*bump*

1. Storms in Africa - Enya
From the album, 'Watermark' which my sister used to listen to a lot. When she moved in with her then-fiance/now-husband, they ended up with two copies of the CD, so I was given one. I like it, but haven't listened to it in ages.

2. Datura - Tori Amos
My sister and I are quite big fans of Tori, but she hates this song because basically it just consists of a list of plants. For some reason though, I really like it.

3. The Way You Look Tonight - Tony Bennett
I do like a bit of crooning. biggrin.gif I haven't really listened to this one before, but it is rather nice.

4. 3 Kilos - The Prodigy
I own this on a "Now..." compilation. I've never been a big fan of The Prodigy, but this song is actually surprisingly okay.

5. Strange (live) - Tori Amos
It does not surprise me that another Tori song has come up - she takes up 3.97% of my iPod (which might not sound a lot, but that's 243 songs out of 6118).

6. I Love You - Sarah McLachlan
Back when I was about 13 or 14, I had a long-distance internet "relationship" with a girl in America. We remained good friends after it ended (although we have, over the last year, lost contact). This song is from the album 'Surfacing' which the girl in question sent me for my birthday. I had never heard of Sarah McLachlan before, but I absolutely fell in love with the album - it now being one of my favourites. This particular song is luv-ver-ly.

7. I Will Remember - Toto
Good song, but I'm not especially familiar with it. I can think of at least one forumite that will pick up on my mention of listening to Toto...

8. Vegas Two Times - Stereophonics
Hmm... it's alright.

9. Woman In The Wall - The Beautiful South
I've only owned this song for about a week: I went out and bought much of The Beautiful South's back-catalogue a few days ago. This is the first time I've heard this, and I like it.

10. (I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight - Cutting Crew
A good power-ballad of the 1980s. I like this song a lot, and am happy for it to have appeared randomly.

All in all, an acceptable selection of songs. Much better than some of the crap thrown up by shuffle whilst I was at work today.
I_am_the_best
1)The Search For Jim - 28 days later soundtrack
Great soundtrack, never seen the film.

2)Rock and a Hard Place - Rolling Stones
This if fun. It makes me feel good.

3)Still Grey - Pendulum
Pendulum is fun, can't say I would recognise this song though.

4)The Widow - Mars Volta
I love this. So far there haven't been any bad songs!

5)Children of the Damned - Iron Maiden
This is also fun, I think it's a bit dirge-y though.

6)Uno - Muse
Makes me want to dance.

7)Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix
Again fun.

8)'Track 8' - Claude Debussy (Pascal Rogé)
What is this? Who knows and I have no sound to find out. I'm sure it is fabulous, all Debussy is fabulous.

9) Deux Marches en Intermède 2 - Francis Poulenc
My second favourite Poulenc piece.

10)Sen's Courage - Joe Hisaishi (New Japan Philhramonic Orchestra)
From the Voyage of Chihiro (Spirited Away) soundtrack. I love this soundtrack so much. It is my favourite.

That was a surprisingly good list considering the amount of crazy rubbish I've got. That said, it's only really me who listens to music on this computer.

1. Linkin Park - Hit The Floor
From Meteora, which I bought after seeing them at the Reading Festival a few years ago. Great live band, even if they're not your scene. It was In The End that first drew me into them. Every time I'd walk past my brother's door, I'd hear that "I tried so hard.. " chorus, and eventually I stole the CD from him, because I had to hear more.

2. Box Car Racer - Watch The World
They're a Blink 182 side project, and damn good. Still teen angsty, but more mature than Blink 182. Another CD I stole from my brother, though I think he let me keep this one. Not sure. It certainly lived in my room for quite a while. I will never understand how my brother can just let CDs go.

3. The Go! Team - Bottle Rocket
No idea what this song is like. I don't know why I've still got this album, as I never listen to the Go! Team. In fact, deleting it now. My online life may not be as legal as it could be, but I don't pirate music for no reason.

4. Coldplay - Don't Panic
I like Coldplay. Every song of theirs sounds okay the first time I hear it and gets better with every listen. Except Trouble. Trouble was the reverse, getting worse with every listen.

5. Coheed and Cambria - The Velourium Camper I: Faint of Heart
Aww, man, Coheed rock. I bought their album, In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3, a few days after I broke up with my first girlfriend. I was kind of avoiding her for a while after that, so all I did was sit in my room and listen to this album. Coheed rock.

6. Simon and Garfunkel - The Dangling Conversation
I don't know this song. I like a lot of Simon and Garfunkel, but I only have this song because it was one of my old housemate's favourites and I got it for him. It's quite nice, but it's no The Boxer.

7. The Postal Service - Nothing Better
If I was a girl, I would totally have a crush on Ben Gibbard. He writes awesome lyrics, and has such a great voice. Nothing Better is one of the best songs on The Postal Service's Give Up album, being beaten by only Such Great Heights.

8. Thrice - Under A Killing Moon
I bought a Thrice album, The Artist in the Ambulance, because their name kept being mentioned along with Taking Back Sunday and Thursday, two awesome bands. So I was very disappointed the first time I heard this album. But like with From Autumn To Ashes, I tried it again after a while and found it to actually be awesome and that I just wasn't ready for it's awesomeness then.

9. Taking Back Sunday - Little Devotional
Probably one of the weakest songs on Where You Want To Be, but still a great song. Taking Back Sunday are great to sing along to, with their repeated lyrics and stuff.

10. Built To Spill - Twin Falls
I have two Built To Spill songs, Twin Falls and Still Flat. I'd rather talk about Still Flat because it's so much better. I've heard it's about fundamentalism, and I can see the connections. There was a meme on livejournal or last.fm somewhere a while ago about the soundtrack to the film of your life. I spent weeks trying to get a perfect soundtrack for myself, but could never fill all of the categories. I did, however, pick Still Flat as the opening credits music for it. I can see it so clearly, the music starts up to a blank screen, and then it fades in on me getting up and getting dressed and my whole daily routine.
CheeseMoose
Okay, open up iTunes and let's get started

1) The Battle of Evermore - Led Zeppelin
Not one of my favorites but a good track

2) Your Mother Should Know - The Beatles
I love this song.

3) Grinder - Judas Priest
Good, but not great.

4) Summertime Blues - The Who
Not a track I know, but I do like The Who

5) Rockaria! - Electric Light Orchestra
Meh.

6) Old (live) - Machine Head
Not a good song

7) Needles - System of a Down
Pretty good

8) The Muppet Show Theme
Awesome.

9) D'yer Maker - Led Zeppelin
Ditto with The Battle for Evermore

10) Born Free (live) - Bouncing Souls
Meh again.

Not that bad a selection, but not very representative of my music collection.
snoo
I'm on my macbook which has a very different selection of music than my PC which has accumulated a lot over the years!

1. Incubus - I Miss You
Not listened to this before, I only recently aquired Make Yourself. It's pretty good though, nice and chilled

2. AFI - Weathered Tome
In my opinion AFI get better with every album. It's pretty good still, if I had a choice I would go for newer AFI though.

3. Death Cab for Cutie - Someday You Will Be Loved
It's emo and I love it.

4. Air - Highschool Lover
I really like the chilledness of Air, not so familiar with the Virgin Suicides Score but I do really like this song.

5. Snow Patrol - The Last Shot Ringing in My Ears
I also really like snow patrol, they have the chilled and they have the fast bouncy stuff both down.

6. At The Drive In - One Armed Scissor
It's the only song I have by them but I do like it very much!

7. The Appleseed Cast - Dreamland
More emo. Seeing as they didn't come up in Novs chart (quite shocking) I will say how much he is obsessed with them, but it's okay because they are incredible and this is one of the first songs I heard by them.

8. Feeder - My Perfect Day
Not very familiar with Polythene but I really like Feeder. Listening to it this song is pretty good but nowhere near top ten Feeder track material.

9. Appleseed Cast - Hanging Marionette
Making up for them not being in Johns top 10, no doubt.

10. Modest Mouse - Trailor Trash
Not a huge fan of Modest Mouse, they do some good stuff but a lot of it is rubbish, this song isn't too bad but it's no 'Float On'
Hobbes
I am very happy to see people joining in again. I love this thread. So much so, in fact, that I shall have another go!

1. Sweet Surrender (live) - Sarah McLachlan
The song is from Surfacing, but this live version is from Mirrorball. This is one of my favourite McLachlan songs.

2. My Questions - Alex Valentin
This is from a Peoplesound.com CD, back when the website first started and it gave away free discs to the first X amount of people to email them. I think I got about five of them, and they all featured unsigned artists: some superb, some rather bland in my opinion. But a good way to hear new music. This song is okay... it wouldn't be out of place on a "Chilled Ibiza" album.

3. Chariot Choogle - T.Rex
I like some T.Rex stuff, but don't find much of their music particularly inspiring. This isn't bad.

4. Playboy Mommy (live) - Tori Amos
She drops in again. Not one of my favourite Tori songs.

5. Only You - The Flying Pickets
I like this beyond any a capella novelty factor. It has a nice sound to it.

6. Dancing With Tears In My Eyes - Ultravox
I like Ultravox and Midge Ure. This particularly track was an "our song" for me and my first 'proper' girlfriend. A bit of an odd choice really. Good song though.

7. Love Is - The Beautiful South
I like this group, but they have been far more prolific than I ever realised. I am yet to listen to all the albums I recently bought of theirs.

8. Caroline (live) - Status Quo
I am not a Quo fan at all, but I do know this one.

9. The Ad-Dressing of Cats - from the musical, Cats
Hmm... there are better songs in the musical than this trange collection of words.

10. China In Your Hand - T'Pau
I lik this song. I also own an acoustic version. My singing coach is intending to learn to play this reasonably well, so that she can perform it one night. It's a lovely song though.
Daria
Novander, I doubt you would like the Go! Team! but they really are awesome. Like a very happy Basement Jaxx mixed with some Cornershop- very summery.

Snoo- I love all things Incubus related and although it isn't their best album (in my eyes), Make Yourself is very listenable and has some very clever lyrics. I Miss You is so damned fitting at times it makes me cry as much as Jimmy Eat World- Hear You Me.

Here goes...
1. The B-52's- Planet Claire
I love these guys. They always cheer me up, the basslines in some of their songs are so heavy they should be in a heavy metal band, and the lyrics are really rather odd. Planet Claire is an excellent example of this from their first, self titled, album.

2. Radiohead- Street Spirit
I have to admit, although I would consider them to be one of my favourite bands, I don't actually own any Radiohead albums. I would like to but rarely have the spare cash to buy CDs, so the only songs I have are odd MP3s from different albums

3. Kings Of Leon- Milk
Although they are a simple Southern rock 'n roll band, I have a soft spot for KoL. They make me want to dance.

4. Incubus- Made For TV Movie
From their most recent album, A Crow Left Of The Murder, a mediochre song. The "hello, I'm trying to focus but my eyes decieve me" part just annoys me as it is too slow and whiney.

5. Air- All I Need
I love Air. My brother introduced them to me, although I had known a few of their songs previously. They are so perfect and they hold many good memories of the summer just gone.

6. Eddie Floyd- Knock On Wood
Get in.

7. Billie Holiday- Life Begins When You're In Love
Another one I can listen to and just be happy. Although our music tastes differ hugely, mum has introduced me to some wonderful music- Billie Holiday and The Doors being but a few.

8. Blur- Music Is My Radar
I grew up with the whole BritPop scene exploding, my brother was an Oasis fan, my sister was a Blur fan. Country House was the first ever single I bought (on tape) and I have loved Blur ever since.

9. Jimmy Eat World- Sweetness
My one emo love, although I will deny they are emo to my deathbed. I remember my brother going to his first gig (JEW) and coming home with tales of how they sprayed the crowd with water (shocking at the time). Because of his story of how cool it was, I was determined to go to a gig- which I did at the tender age of 14 when I went to see The Levellers. Since then I have been to hundreds of gigs, and have seen Jimmy Eat World twice- both times they blew me away.

10. The Guillemots- Through The Windowpane
Seen thrice, met band, drank lead singer's wine, adore music because of lyrical genius and their adventurous uses of instruments. This song is a beautiful example of their work and I highly suggest you check them out.

(This selection was brought to you by Windows Media Player on "random play")
voices_in_my_head
Now that I finally have somewhere to get my music "data" from, here's my random 10:

1.Dracula Moon - Joan Osborne
I love her voice! It's all deep and purdy...

2.Ironic - Alanis Morrissette
Who doesn't like this song?

3.Float on - Modest Mouse
Nice, happy, bouncy music - what's not to like?

4.Ain't No Other Man - Christina Aguilera
...I'm woman enough to admit it...

5.All these things that I've done - The Killers
I'm the only one out of all of my friends who likes the Killers at all.

6. The View - Modest Mouse
It makes me dance! biggrin.gif

7.Nails for breakfast, Tacks for snacks - Panic! At the Disco
Good stuff.

8.My Immortal - Evanescence
I love, love, love Amy Lee's voice, mostly in this song.

9. Move Along - The All American Rejects
A good song, although it gets annoying after awhile.

10. The Widow - The Mars Volta
Fantastical song - lyrics, music, and all.

Not bad, although it's just my luck that out of the near hundred songs on my iPod it just had to come up with one of the two Christina Aguilaria songs on there.
PsychWardMike
From the depths of the "Mike's Greatest Hit's" Playlist comes my first submission!

1) "The Joke's on Me" - Reel Big Fish
From their new album We're Not Happy Till You're Not Happy. I like Reel Big Fish a lot, but they're straying from their ska stylings and leaning toward more of a rock with heavy brass inclusions. Still good.

2) "Theme from Back to the Future" - Alan Silvestri
I love Silvestri. He's a great composer who writes fanfares just as well as John Williams, but Alan Silvestri has a much more interesting back story. Makes you feel good.

3) "41" - Dave Matthews Band
It's chill jazz jam. Woo!

4) "Moondance" - Van Morrison
What a great song this is. I have a cover of it by Michael Buble which I'd reccomend in a heart beat.

5) "Sheep Go to Heaven" - Cake
Cake isn't one of my favorite bands, but a few of their songs - this one included - have happy memories tied to it and a nice groove.

6) "Better Together" - Jack Johnson
Jack Johnson is one of my guilty pleasures. It just seems like I shouldn't like him, but I just eat his stuff up!

7) "Albuquerque" - "Weird Al" Yankovic
Yeah, you heard me. I love Weird Al. Gotta problem?

8) "Rock this Town" - The Brian Setzer Orchestra
Normally my '90s swing revival goes to the likes of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, but no one can deny how awesome an arranger and guitarist Brian Setzer is.

9) "That Face" - The Producers
Yeah, you heard me. I like Broadway musicals. Gotta problem?

10) "Valiant and Valiant" - Alan Silvestri
Don't know the piece? It's the theme to Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Quality stuff, and it just goes to show how much more versatile a composer Silvestri is than Williams.

There you go. Each one's a good song in its own right, though I am a little annoyed that Alan Silvestri got two places on the list. Ah well, it's random, right?

1. Santa Monica - Everclear.
2. Step On My Old Size Nines - Stereophonics.
3. Hands Open - Snow Patrol.
4. Bullet in the Head - Rage Against The Machine.
5. Champagne Supernova - Oasis.
6. Blue Veins - The Raconteurs.
7. Up in the Sky - Oasis.
8. Music Is My Radar - Blur.
9. Mamma Mia - ABBA.
10. Doginabag - The Fratellis.

1) Beer - Reel Big Fish
meh, it's alright

2) Blood on the World's Hands - Iron Maiden
ohh, I like this song, bit slow to get going though

3) Eighties - Killing Joke
Good

4) I Don't Even Know Your Name - The Mavericks
Yeah, I like this too

5) Let it be - The Beatles
Not one of my favourites, but still good

6) Wonderboy - Tenacious D
How about the power to kill a yak? From 400 yards away... with mindbullets! Awesome.

7) Elected - Alice Cooper
Another great song.

8) Ace of Spades - Motorhead
Not that great

9) Jugband Blues - Pink Floyd
Lovely

10) Fireball - Deep Purple
Pretty good
I_am_the_best
1)Carillon - Poulenc
This is alright. Not my favourite of Poulenc by any means.
2)Burnin' and Lootin' - Bob Marley
Ooh! A surprise visit from Bob Marley. It is fun, I do like it. It makes me want to wiggle about slowly.
3)Track 11 - Jeff Buckley
I've never heard this before actually. Don't even know its name. Upon hearing, it's kinda boring. It's really boring.
5)Factory Girl - Rolling Stones
Ah, what a fun song. Stone = almost instant happiness.
6)Dio - Tenacious D
Well.
7)C.O.D. - AC/DC
Yes. It's quite fun. But it's one of those songs which are in a sort of limno between fun slow songs and fun fast songs, it's just a song.
8)New Born - Muse
Yes. I do like this. Muse is very good.
9)Highschool Lover - Air (Virgin Suicides theme)
Oh I love this so much. Particularly with 'Playground Love'. It's so lovely.
10)Valse Romantique - Claude Debussy
Debussy wrote it. Of course it is amazing. What could one expect.
Hobbes
Must be my turn again.

1: Good Boys (Blow-Up Mix) - Blondie
I like a lot of Blondie tracks, but I am not expecially familiar with this one - taken from a greatest hits album I own.

2: The Captain & The Kid - Elton John
The title track of his latest album which, as a whole, is "satisfactory". But Elton's voice has definitely changed over the years and it's a little less comfortable these days, I think. This is a "nice", "pleasant" song smile.gif

3: Can You Feel The Love Tonight - * Soundtrack: The Lion King
Perhaps one of the best Disney films, this is a pretty little song. A lovely coincedence that it followed an Elton John song, as he and Tim Rice wrote the songs for the film.

4: One Of Our Fruit Machines Is Missing - Nik Kershaw
An instrumental that I believe was originally a B-side, but can be found on his greatest hits album. As instrumentals go, it's alright...

5: Never Let Them See You Sweat - Go West
From another greatest hits album of an 80's band, which I bought for just four songs on the CD. This isn't one of them.

6: As Long As You Love Me - Backstreet Boys
*cough* This, I must inform you, is on a compilation album. I do not own a Backstreet Boys CD. I repeat: I do not own a Backstreet Boys CD.

7: There Is Song - The Beautiful South
Nice enough...

8: Badlands - Bruce Springsteen
The Boss doing his standard stuff...

9: Soul Man (Backing Track) - Blues Brothers
From a CD of backing tracks that my sister made me.

10: Yesterday - Wet Wet Wet
Dear, oh dear, oh dear. Again, from a compilation album.

Hmm... a selection of songs that doesn't necessarily represent my music collection particularly well.

Oh, c'mon, I admitted to Christina! tongue.gif

Ok, here we go:

1. Lose Control - Evanescence
Nice song - I'm overall happy with their new album.

2.Blame it on the Tetons - Modest Mouse
Not my favorite, but it's still a very good song.

3.Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks - Panic! at the Disco
One of my favorite songs by them. Also, the name is fun to say.

4.My Immortal - Evanescence
The only song off of their old album that I love.

5. Ape Dos Mil - Glassjaw
A great and catchy song.

6.Absolutely (Story of a Girl) - Nine Days
smile.gif This song is full of nostalgia for me.

7.Last Kiss - Pearl Jam
Once again - very nostalgic.

8.Steady as She Goes - The Raconteurs
Catchy and fun to sing along to.

9.Never Ending Math Equation - Modest Mouse
A favorite song of mine, I wish I owned the CD.

10.The Remedy - Jason Mraz
Once again fun to sing - it's fun to try and do it all in one breath.

biggrin.gif I'm pretty happy with this list - it's a shows what I listen to pretty well.
CheeseMoose
okay, I wasn't that happy with the list above, so I thought I'd try again

1) Silence is Easy - Starsailor
Not a good start. I didn't even know I had this song

2) Metal Gods - Judas Priest
Better, it's a good song, but not one of my favourites

3) Blood On The World's Hands - Iron Maiden
This is more like it. I love this song.

4) A Quick One, While He's Away - The Who
Not one I lsiten to a lot, but still a good one

5) I Hear You Knocking - Dave Edmunds
meh

6) Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd
*shrugs* not a great song, but nice to listen to

7) Shadows Fall - The Coral
I didn't actually notice this song, I just saw it on the list of what had been played

8) Hello Goodbye - The Beatles
A happy song, but rather dull

9) Song 2 - Blur
Woohoo.

10) The Passenger - Iggy Pop
A nice song, but repetative and it goes on too long
snoo
Once again I am on my mac so my collection is slightly limited...

1. Interpol - Next Exit
I love Interpol, this isn't my favourite but it's up there

2. AFI - 3 1/2
This song doesn't get a lot of listens but AFI = awesome

3. Greenday - Holiday
It's Greenday, how can I not like it... even if it's not one of the best

4. Modest Mouse - A Manic Depressive Called Laughing Boy
I'm not a huge fan of Modest Mouse, I need music I can listen to - this just doesn't do it for me.

5. Queens of the Stone Age - Someone's In The Wolf
Good band, good song

6. Bright Eyes - Light Pollution
Have to be in the right mood but I do like this song

7. Jimmy Eat World - 77 Satellites
I have nothing bad to say about JEW.

8. Dresden Dolls - Necessary Evil
Brilliant band, good memories of this song - easy to dance around and be silly to

9. jj72 - 7th Wave

Another amazing band, a real shame they split up. I adore this song.

10. Lacuna Coil - Enjoy the Silence
Not a huge fan of Lacuna Coil but they have some amazing stuff and Christina's voice is amazing.
torn love notes
Trivium-like light to the flies
Incubus-I miss you
Mandy Moore-Only Hope
Postal Service-Such Great Heights
Muse-Unitended
Michael Buble-That's all
Bethoven-Sonata Claro De Luna
Reik-Novimbre Sin Ti
Becoming The Archetype-Into Oblivion
Nickel Creek-The Light House Tale

Last Ten songs I listened to.

My turn again smile.gif

1. Starman - David Bowie
A very good artist, singing one of his best songs.

2. Beat Surrender - The Jam
One of the Jam's more "pop" records. My sister and I used to sing this a lot back in the early nineties, because it was a song on a free cassette we sent off for from Weetabix. We had no idea who The Jam were at all, or what the rest of their music was like - nevermind Paul Weller's importance to many, many other musicians.

3. She's My Man - Scissor Sisters
From their new album, Ta-Dah!, this is a fun little song.

4. Prophesy (Fink Remix) - Nitin Sawhney
I have never heard of this artist before. This track is on a charity CD I bought called, "Bo**ocks to Cancer!" I believe it was sold to raise money for further research into the causes/treatments of testicular cancer. There isn't really much to this song, but it is "nice" enough.

5. Don't Ask Me Why - Eurythmics
The beginning of this sounds awfully similar another Eurythmics song: 'Here Comes The Rain Again'. This song is nothing special... again, "nice enough".

6. The Captain & The Kid - Elton John
This came up on my last random playlist post!

7. Paid In Full (Seven Minutes Of Madness) (The Coldcut Remix)- Eric B & Rakim
This is from a compilation album called: 12'' 80's Dance.

8. What About Love - Meat Loaf, featuring Patti Russo
From Meat Loaf's new album, Bat Out Of Hell III. I think it is fair to say that the new album, and thus this song, is no real departure from the previous Bat Out Of Hell albums. The only difference being that his voice seems to struggle a little more than it used to.

9. Helen - Nizlopi
A B-Side to last year's number 1, 'JCB Song'. I can understand why it is a B-Side...

10. Mustang Sally- Wilson Pickett
A rather famous song that, shamefully, I don't really know very well at all.
