Mata
Hi all!

As I say in the intro to this animation, if you don't know of Dr Crippen or of Cilit Bang then this will be totally lost on your, but... Well, it stops the idea from knocking around in my head, and it's given me something fun to work on for the day:

As always, if you like it then please pass it on!

'Til next time, take care and have fun,

... well, I am not familiar either with Dr Crippen or Cillit Bang, so, as predicted, I simply stared blankly at the screen. Woo!
CheeseMoose
I do know about both Dr Crippen and Cillit Bang so I laughed like a monkey who had just been informed about a new type of pantaloon
little_bear
*WHOOSH*

That was the sound of it going completely over my head.
Mata
Dr Crippen was a murderer from 1910 (although it's possible that he accidentally gave his wife an overdose). He didn't do a very good job disposing of the body and was caught. It was a major scandal because he was a well educated man and seemed so mild. These were the days before it became obligatory to have an interview with the neighbour of a mass-murderer saying 'he always seemed so normal. He kept himself to himself...'

Cilit Bang is a stain remover with a very crude but effective series of adverts.

I certainly have a brain that goes for niche audiences, don't I?

Me neither but google search is my friend so I watched it informed about both. Turns out I vaguely remember the advert just it didn't click.

teehee...Crippen Bang.

The Dr Crippen story
Kitty
Woowww....
I feel the need to be more educated in murder stories and cleaning products o.0....

I'm at school tongue.gif I'm gunna show people!!!
Rather intresting idea, by the way, Mata.
JimiJimi
I know what Cilit Bang is - I have some and it works rather well...

Look what it does to this old penny...

Actually I tried it on an old penny and it made it ever so slightly less dirty, before trying it on a pound... and it took the finish off.

Anyway, I like the animation, although I can only relate to the Cilit Bang part - 'tis an interesting mix of murder and cleaning produce...

If you want to make a penny clean, dunk it in kool-aid and let it sit for about an hour or two. I'm serious!

That makes me rather scared to touch kool aid ph34r.gif

Pfft coke can dissolve a T Bone steak overnight.

To my knowledge there was evidence that Crippen didn't actually do it.
Evidence was left out of the trial that actually proved that his wife had moved to America with a lover. Letters written by her, one even arrived at the prison that Crippen was being held at but the gaoler withheld it until later.

It was never actually proved that the remains found were hers....

But then again... *shrugs*
Mata
Well, there was the possibility that she was given an overdose by mistake. That's quite a popular theory these days. I hadn't heard that there was doubt about whether the remains were really hers, but that does raise the question of exactly whose recently-dismembered corpse was buried in the basement!

Oh, and try leaving a tooth in a glass of coke and watching as it dissolves away over a few days. It put me off coke for life!
Sir Psycho Sexy
Cilit Bang scares me, don't know why but it very unnerving that something can clean so well (or so they say). It shouldn't be able to be kept in a plastic bottle for extended periods of time without disolving it...

On the subject of coke, the syrup stuff you get for post mix drinks (like the ones you get in fast food places) is like a super concentrated version of coke, reputedly with a pH value of somewhere in the region of 2, I also remember hearing stories of authorties using it to clean dried blood stains off roads after major accidents...fun!

I loved the animation. I thought it was very clever. I did know of the murder, but not the Bang stuff. Just goes to prove I am obsessed with murder mysteries but not cleaning.
However Texas Pete hot sauce will take the brown off a penny. Just thought you may need to know that if you are shinning pennies.
Mata
Apparently Cilit Bang does clean pennies, but the day after the sheen goes and there's a weird film on them (a chemical film, not a piece of French surrealist cinema). It's a bit like fairy gold.

I approve!

Those adverts do my head in but now I see that they do actually have a purpose - to make Mata make more wierd animations!
Mata
I think that this is certainly one of my more peculiar moments recently.

That's quite an understatement there, Mata.
Polocrunch
It was hilarious, but a bit clunky.
Daria
I thought it was absolutely hillarious as I knew of both things... You could always also go down the lines of Jack The Ripper and a set of new kitchen knives used for boning. (I'm not sure if there is an e or not. And its not that sort of boning! My brother is a chef and came home from work one day to say that he had just been boning a 30lb fish. I laughed my socks off biggrin.gif

I doubt there'll be any more like this, but my mind does work in odd ways, and it was quite a fun way to distract myself for about ten hours (it really is silly how long even simple things can take to make).

Welcome to my forums!
Faerieryn
I knew both stories although it took a second for Crippen's name to become associated with the story.

Along the Coke lines: Aparantly the coca cola company uses it to clean the engines of it's trucks. Surprisingly though I can't get enough of the stuff. That and Lipton Ice!
Mata
Sues loves coke and Lipton Ice too! How odd. Maybe they've both got a chemical in them that you react to?
Faerieryn
Could be... I suspect it may also be in Pringles too!

Bad Ryn! Bad Ryn!

twas an interesting story that it was... Might I add that even without knowing the true story behind Dr. Crippen it was exqisite...

that and I felt the shock wave of a passing supersonic jet that was Crippen Bang....

You can do it with vinegar and salt (cleans them in seconds), but it made mine go blue the next day. : [
Aaanyway, Cillit Bang rocks. A great example of really, really, really bad advertising working well because it sticks in your head. All they need now is an earsplitting jingle.
Mata
You want a jingle? Well, how about a hardcore remix of the adverts instead? I really think that they should show this on TV:

MrTeapot
Ahh its pronounced "Sil-it" Bang, not "Clit" Bang like I thought it was.

When I first saw it, that was what I thought it said. I have also heard of even more rude four letter mis-readings...
Handel
http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/cokelore.asp This sets a large number of the Coke Myths to rest. biggrin.gif

The History Channel (for what it's worth) did a documentary on Dr. Crippen.

it would seem that e have the same product in australia it even has an add disturbingly similar to that only it called "easy off BAM" biggrin.gif
pgrmdave
I watched it before without knowing either about Dr. Crippen or Cilit Bang, and was greatly confused, but after reading through this thread and going back and watching it, I must say it is rather amusing smile.gif
