I am half way through watching Cave of the Yellow Dog. It's a Mongolian documentary about a family living in the countryside, featuring an adorable little girl. It's refreshing - a movie which doesn't spoon-feed you the emotions you're meant to be feeling.

Just finished plowing through The American office, absolutely hilarious. Wish I had a Dwight at my workplace, hours of fun... sad.gif

I watched Son of Rambow. It's endearing.

So I'm a little behind times in movies, but in the last week or so I've seen August Rush (aweeesome, except for the part where he gets magically good at guitar overnight... >_>), Van Wilder: Rise of Taj (awesome again), Across The Universe (well.. The music was good) and American Pie 2 (which was pretty good.)

I'm bored, Paramount are showing one of their stacks and its Scubs season 2 all day baby yeah!

Iron Man

Guys, this film is at Batman Begins levels of superhero awesome. Marvel fans, stay for the final scene at the end of the (incredibly long) credits.

I recently finished watching the ninth season of big brother. besides one or two interesting characters (pink mohawk man bicycling around the world? mm, i'll have some of that, please) and one or two gratingly annoying antagonists, it was a pretty bad season. i'm guessing 90% of all future applicants will be attempting to reach or surpass Evel Dick's level of..uhh..entertainment/harassment/sexual harassment/torture.

All I ever seem to watch is The Apprentice when it comes to telly, and then some of the 'talent show' brain-enemas such as 'Britains Got Talent' and that one about trying to cast the right Nancy for 'Oliver'.

The latter has taken me by surprise. I was originally just watching it because the panel is astonishingly camp, and Graham Norton keeps overusing the word 'Nancy' - two facts which, in tandem, often leaves me rolling with mirth.

However, the last installment actually left me speechless. One of the ladies - an Irish cutie with a lopsided smile that has me shifting uncomfortably in my trousers - sang a number that so outstripped the usual levels of 'talent' on shows such as this that I could barely think straight for a moment.

So whilst I didn't give two tosses before, it's Jessie to win all the way now.

I also watch 'Doctor Who'. But who doesn't?

Saw that today, loved it. I think I liked it a bit more than batman begins, which surprises me cause I like Batman and was never really a fan of Iron Man. The humor/sillyness just appealed to me more than the darkness of Batman. During the credits I was actually talking to my friend about how the thing at the end wasn't in there. "the thing" not meaning the event, just trying not to spoil it and failing to think of a clever way to do so. This is my favorite Marvel movie so far.
cheese is funny
Im addicted to Scrubs. Ive watched it to the point that its no longer funny to me, but I find myself watching it and unable to change channel.

Of course, some of the adult swim staples, Robot Chicken, Harvey Birdman, Aquateen, Tim and Eric. Just about everything else is garbage though.

Colbert Report and The Daily Show amuse me greatly. Stand up comedians are always wonderful, usually.

Edit: South Park! Woooo!

Moonlight. Finally! A decent vampire series.

Saw saw the new Indiana Jones. Not sure what to think of it, so I'll sit back and wait for everyone elses opinions and I'll probably agree with them.

I just watched the latest (and I believe last in season 4) episode of House and spent the last 20 minutes in tears...

I also watched Indiana Jones this weekend. It's really hard to say if I like it or not without mentioning massive spoilers so I will just say that it wasn't really what I was expecting but it was about as good as I was expecting (which = decent, with a good measure of nostalgia and cheese)
Last weekend I watched Nim's Island which is kinda cute but annoying and Abigail Breslin is totally going to grow up HAWT!
A few weeks before that I saw Iron Man which was awesome!

Non cinema based viewings of recent times include Ultraviolet (pretty good), A Scanner Darkly (first watch since seeing it in the cinema when it came out and still as weird and good), The Lost Boys, Nancy Drew (I was curious and it was £2!) along with more Gilmore Girls than you can shake a stick at and lashings of Big Bang Theory and Freaks & Geeks...

Not really screen-based entertainment, but on Saturday I decided to forego the annoyance of the Eurovision Song Contest and go and watch a musical based on, erm, the Eurovision Song Contest.

No, seriously, I kid you not! It's called "Eurobeat" and to say that it's a much better alternative is a bit of an understatement. It was hilarious from start to finish, the actors were great, the songs were brilliant and I loved the high levels of audience participation. And you get to vote for the winner as well.

The hosts were Mel Giedroyc (the funny one from Mel and Sue) and Gareth Hale (the funny one from Hale and Pace), they worked well together and had us all in stitches.

I can't recommend it enough. If it comes to a town near you, go and see it.

I just watched Silence in the Library, the latest Doctor Who episode and oh my god it is so good. I've been a little let down by season 4 so far but damn this episode made up for all of it.

It was done by the same writer as the 'Blink' episode, and the 'Are you my mummy' ones. In fact, all the best episodes of the reborn Doctor Who all seem to be by this guy (Steven Moffat, off the top of my head).

My wife informed me that he wrote a lot of the Doctor Who novels as well, so he's been churning out quality Who plots for years. He's certainly got the good old 'hide-behind-the-couch' feel down to a T.

For my televisual viewing, I chose to spend a night lamenting the feeble-mindedness of the Great British public and their habit of ignoring obvious talent in favour of the safe and boring.

In case you haven't guessed, Jessie didn't win. I am heartbroken.

At least I'll have The Apprentice to look forward to...

I've not seen that one yet. My youngest daughter has and she tells me it was really scary (she's 10, so she's allowed to be scared) and that it was just as scary as "Blink". Which spooked me, and I'm 37!

I've been a bit let down by this series as well. To be brutally honest, I don't think the choice of sidekick is a good one; I can't watch Catherine Tate in the role without thinking of her numerous generic "comic" "characters". Even down to the fact that she pronounces several lines per episode sounding like one or other of them. I suspect the writers have seen the error of this decision, hence the reason why we've had Martha Jones back once and there's still this hint of Rose Tyler kicking about.

Anyway, I watched the "Britain's Got Talent" final on Saturday night, and was amazed that of the three acts I thought were shoe-ins, only one made the top three and he finished third. Shows what I know, I guess.

And I took the missus to see the Sex And The City movie too. Now I'm actually a bit of a fan of the show (and no, not to see Kim Cattrall naked! Well, not entirely, anyway...) and the movie sticks very faithfully to the format. However, it's a bit longer than it needed to be and there are some redundant bits which could've been comfortably chopped out to no detriment to the film. It was still pretty enjoyable, though, and there were genuinely laugh out loud funny bits. But yes, the theatre was 90-odd percent female, so if you're a bloke and don't feel comfortable watching chick flicks in a room full of women then wait until it gets on the telly.

I'm not a big programme person, been sticking to the music channels most of the time for the last few months. =]

So somehow Netflix sent us the wrong movie, (that, or someone decided to order a reeeeeeeeeeally stupid one) but I ended up watching Sick Nurses. This has literally got the be the worst movie I have ever seen. It's some Asian movie, and the English voice overs made all the characters sound really, really, dumb. It was supposed to be "horror" (I think?!), but all the blood and everything was so fake we ended up just laughing through the whole thing. It was slightly hard to follow, and there wasn't much point of the twist at the end, since that character as a male had like no role in the movie to begin with. Yeah, stupid, stupid, movie. Ironically enough, no one left the couch while we were watching it.

I watched both parts back to back on Sunday night, and I think the second part was actually scarier. All very pant-soilingly good though. The three individual parts were kept apart quite well, to the point where the revelation of CAL was actually something of a surprise.

I went with the family to see the new Indiana Jones film last Friday. If you turn your brain off and let it happen to you, it's a damn fine romp in the old Indy style-ee with plenty of action and adventure and some decent special effects. Unfortunately I was able to guess what the outcome was about 20 seconds after the opening credits finished rolling and was disappointed to be right about it. Bah dry.gif

I thought Indy was a great movie but I was originally a little put off by the end. Since then it's been pointed out to me that this is 50s pulp, not 30s or 40s; in a way it makes sense for him to be dealing with this sort of stuff.

I still feel it detracts a little from the supernatural elements of the first three, but I am not so against it now.

There was a screening of The Incredible Hulk at my cinema this morning, for members of the press but employees could attend. It's a pretty good film. Naturally, it needs to be compared with Iron Man and unfortunately, it does not do so favourably. Marvel Studios may have made a mistake making Iron Man their first release. Hulk is a good movie. It would have earned them praise. Following it with Iron Man would have made them seem even cooler. Sadly even a great actor like Edward Norton can't top Robert Downey Jr.

But I suppose his appearance at the end of the movie somewhat makes up for that.

I watched What Happens In Vegas today. It's quite fun, but nothing more.

I've also started watching the anime of Itazura na Kiss (although I've never read the manga). It's very cheesy and essentially just a string of romantic gestures, but I need to know what happens next. Ah, I can't wait for the next eipsode to come out!
I_am_the_best
I also just watched the new Indiana Jones movie. It's fun, but a spaceship came out in it. That was a bit strange. But it was enjoyable for the time we watched it.

I take it you didn't spot the opening caption that read "Nevada, 1957" then? tongue.gif

The new Hulk movie looks good on the trailers. Yes, I suspect it'll get measured alongside The Iron Man, which was very good indeed, if a bit slow. But I think, as long as it's better than the previous Hollywood release, which was truly abysmal, then it'll be okay.
Mata
Reviews of the new Hulk film are very middling. I think it's another wait-to-rent (if you're bothered). The first one was terrible - it had a reasonable start then completely lost it's way and never came back, much like the Ghost Rider film.

I've been occasionally watching The Dresden Files. It's good enough to inspire me to get the books, but there's a bit of a sense that it's missing something, although I can't say exactly what. Maybe it's peril - Dresden never really feels like he's in danger... Perhaps. I'm not sure, but it's not so much of a problem that I've stopped watching, so it can't be too bad.
I_am_the_best
I watched The Great Happiness Space: Tale of an Osaka Love Thief. It is interesting. A documentary about the host club culture in Japan focusing on a particular host and his clients mainly. It plants a lot of thought seeds in your brain.
I_am_the_best
Hm, a double post. I watched Blue Spring (yes, another Japanese movie, they're refreshing in comparison with average box office movies). It's alright, has a landscape-shaped plot. I would recommend it.

Shouldn't watch movies late at night, get too emotional >.<
Mata
'Criminal Justice' has been showing all this week on BBC1 and it's fantastic. It's a story about a young guy, around 20, who makes some bad choices and ends up looking like he murdered a girl. The conclusion is tonight and I can't wait! Usually I'm not that bothered about drama (and this probably is more about drama than criminal investigation) but this one is brilliant.

Yeah, I've heard that about the new film too. Shame really, yet another wasted opportunity. The first one was done too much like a "moving comic", far too art-house. And not enough action, which is an essential element for what is ostensibly a film about an action hero.

Lined up for watchage at the flicks are "Kung Fu Panda" and "Hancock", hopefully at some point this weekend.
Mata
Kung Fu Panda sounds appealing. I'm not sure about Hancock - the trailers don't seem to know if they're advertising a tragic drama, a superhero film, a comedy, or an action movie, although that could actually be a really good sign...

I've not seen it yet, but I'm hearing things about the new action film 'Wanted', so I'll probably go and watch Angelina Jolie that film sometime soon. Has anyone else seen that yet.

Oh my god yes this is a good film. I mean, it's a good film if you like The Matrix, Equilibrium, Shoot 'Em Up, to name but a few films that quite obviously inspired it. (It meaning the film; I've not read the comics but I've heard it's not very faithful to them at all). So yes, a great cast with amazing set pieces and a nice dark sense of humour. I strongly recommend you stop reading this and go watch it now.

I can't say the same for Hancock. It's not a bad film and I like how the trailers - the trailers I've seen at least - didn't really give away anything in the film. It's nice. Some things are meant to be surprises. Unfortunately it suffers from some drastic cuts. No major plot holes, but a lot was removed to lower the rating and in certain places it shows. It's certainly worth a watch if you've nothing else to do, but I'd choose Wanted over this any day.

I'm seeing Kung Fu Panda tomorrow, and looking forward to it far more than I perhaps should, but that doesn't seem to be a rare condition; I've had a lot of parents tell me they're using their children as an excuse because they really want to watch it.

Nova, as a parent myself I can honestly say that one of the best perks of having kids is that you can get to watch all these great kids films without prejudice. And it keeps you in their good books too. It really is a win-win!

Shame Hancock has been chopped so much. I think I'd prefer to see the unexpurgated version.

Okay, Kung Fu Panda is fantastic. Like, really great. If you like Jack Black. I'm not his biggest fan, but I think he does what he does well and in Kung Fu Panda he's doing what he does awesomely. Best animated film this year. For a couple of weeks until Wall-E comes out, anyway.

So.. I'm guilty of waiting for things to come out on DVD before watching them, and saw 10000 BC last night. Completely brilliant. Loved it. Go see it if you haven't, now.

No, no sorry, but I cannot let this go unchallenged. 10,000 BC - and I will not sully the bold tag by using it on this film - is without any hyperbole the worst film I have seen this year. I can't say it's the worst film. I avoided, for example, Over Her Dead Body and Meet The Spartans, but of the films that looked like they might be worth a watch this one failed so hideously that I spent the whole film thinking "I won't leave just yet... it might get better soon."

It didn't.

The Golden Compass was a bad adaptation and The Oxford Murders was just plain bad but 10,000 BC is the only film that's made me consider free cinema tickets to be a curse. Were it not for them I would never have seen this film and my life would be better for it.

..What?! It was totally awesome. Not much of an argument, but yeah.

I'm very intrigued by that film, Izzy. It looks like my kinda thing, given that I've heard that it has a feel of 'Ginger Snaps' to it - a film I hold in high esteem. However, I can't help but wonder why all the threads I've been posting in lately have taken a turn for the vaginal. I don't need another warning...

I saw Their Will Be Blood a couple days back. I think the movie was supossed(sp?) to have some message to it, but all I got was that don't trust an oil man or he'll shoot you and that speaking the word of god to an oil man will get your head bashed it with a bowling pin.

I don't think the Wiki plot said it, but it was hilarious when the doc's fingers got bitten off, and he was laying there on the operating table, and the surgeons ask if he's sure he doesn't want to tell them how it happened. And he just like put the anesthesia mask on his face.
