Don't worry, they released GTA 3 on the consoles before the PC, and the PC version was better.

Then again, it's Rockstar we're talking about. They might release a Wii version just to spite the PC players.

ish...

PC always wins for mouselook! But GTA 3 did suffer somewhat as an obvious 'conversion' without much in the way of optimisation for the PC.

I ended up hooking up a PS2 controller to my PC to play GTA3. To me it really didn't feel like mouse and keyboard controls suited the game.

I've been playing the original Deus Ex on PC, finally made a bit more progress in Mass Effect on the 360 and I also started GTA4: The Lost and the Damned (also on the 360) because someone was selling their copy of Episodes from Liberty City really cheaply.

I need to get Red Dead Redemption soon too! Originally I would have got the 360 version but now that they've 'repaired' my red ring of death it's a lot louder than I remember. Purely for that reason I will probably get it for the PS3 instead.

Seems to be yet another of those months with too many games on the go.
Mata
I've been playing the Monkey Island Special Edition games. I went through 1 last week and I've just started on number 2. I think I'm going to try to use less clues this time - they're written at a really good level, so they give just enough of a hint to get you going the right way, but it still might have been too much... It's hard to say.

Finished Red Dead Redemption a couple of weeks ago. First game to bring me to the edge of tears.

Since completing Arkham Asylum (well, I still have Challengest to do, but the main plot and all the Riddler quests are done) I've not really got into anything. I'm sort of playing through Dragon Age again, but mostly I just want some racing game where things explode, so I was all set to buy Split/Second but then this video convinced me that maybe Blur was the way to go, so I did some reading and turns out that yeah, it's more what I'm after in a Get Home, Don't Think, Look At The Pretty Colours sort of game, so I've ordered that from Amazon (was even going to use the amazon search bar here, but it seems to have been replaced. How do you get my money now, Mata?)

Oh, and Fantastic Contraption 2 is out. Lost a few hours on it yesterday.

Not a lot at the moment, though I played some Alien Swarm with Oni which was good fun (and free!). Really needs more than two players though or it's incredibly difficult.

I've mostly been trying to keep myself on focus making my entry for the TIGsource A Game By It's Cover competition. So far I've been working on it on the train to work and back and a bit in the evenings but I've got some holiday coming up so should be able to make some more progress soon. biggrin.gif
Yannick
I played Runescape for like four hours yesterday. >_>

Nov - regarding the Amazon links - it's weird - they sometimes seem to show up, sometimes they don't I see them on my home machines but not at work, and yet Amazon isn't blocked at work. It's weird. Anyway, assuming you can see the links, just click on anything and that's the same as searching for something in the search box. Anything you buy during that shopping trip counts as an affiliate sale (it doesn't have to be the thing you clicked on).

I'm on Monkey Island 2: Special Edition at the moment. 'Tis very good, and I really like the hint system - I don't use it often, but it's great if you've forgotten what you're doing between plays.
Novander
I've gone multiplayer all of a sudden. I'm not used to it and it's scaring me. StarCraft II on the PC and Blur and Left 4 Dead 2 on the 360. That'll all die down soon though, since the next games I'm planning on getting are Enslaved (written by Alex Garland, motion capture by Andy Serkis!) and Fable III (I don't know how many of these Rumoured actors made it in the game, but even if it's just a few that's still a damn sexy cast).

For both single and multiplayer, I'm very much looking forward to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

PM me if you'd like my 360 gamertag (sadly Novander was already taken) or my Blizzard RealID.

Did you enjoy Blur, btw Novy? A good friend of mine who was in my class at uni (first time round) worked on it, he got the job straight out of uni and he's very proud of the game.

I finally finished my third playthrough of Mass Effect 2, about six months or so after I started it. I grabbed all the DLC to do as well, and got every achievement (my first 100% game), so I've kind of exhausted it now, but it was so worth it. When I finished it the first time, I thought it was a strong contender for my personal favourite game ever, finally something to beat Baldur's Gate 2. Now I'm sure it is, at least until number 3 comes out biggrin.gif Which brings me to...

Currently I'm playing through Baldur's Gate 2. I was playing Company of Heroes Online, but my compy is a bit mucked up and I can't run anything too high demand until the new parts I've ordered come through tomorrow (today, really). Hence old-school awesomeness.
Hobbes
I have not played many games recently, although I do dip into the musical-tetrisesque nature of Chime occasionally.

Yes. The single player is alright, the stylish flashy powerups look stylish and flashy, but what makes the game great is the multiplayer. Normally, I suck at multiplayer and have a bad experience because everyone else is kicking my arse. I am, in fact, still terrible at the multiplayer on this. Over 100 online races and I haven't won one yet. But I don't care about winning, all I care about is beating the guy in front of me. The expert racers who know how to use complicated tactics like Braking Before A Corner can have their little scuffle for first place, I'm having a great time in 11th fighting against the equally bad 10th and 12th.

The game doesn't punish me for caring about the neon graphics and colourful explosions more than tight cornering and expert track knowledge. It's the best driving game I can think of for people who don't like cars that much.

As you also did with Super Crate Box, which still is encouraging me to dip into it every now and again - despite being ridiculously hard and ridiculously mental.

All I heard on the radio all day Wednesday was, "Will GT5 live up to the long-awaited expectations? Will the delays have killed off the franchise?" etc etc.

So... worth the wait then?

Personally, I was always going to be happy if it was just a HD remake of the last one. And it is.

People expecting it to revolutionize the driving simulator genre, will be disapointed.

I haven't played any of the 'The Sims' games since the first one. I remember buying the original, and then losing a LOT of hours to constantly playing it. Since I broke myself away from it, I haven't dared go back smile.gif And when you consider how relatively simplistic the first game is, compared to its sequels, I think I'd become very addicted, very quickly biggrin.gif

hehehe I became very addicted so indeed watch out ^^ but it is really fun. If you go from 1 to 3 or 2 to 3
you will just be sad (at least I was and many with me)

I like 3, I was fully addicted to the first one when it came out and although I did not own it I played 2 quite a bit, including with most of the add ons and although 3 does not have some of the things that were great in two (seasons, for example) I think the fact that I don't have to wait 10 mins while it loads a neighbourhood lot or whatever every time I want to go anywhere gives it enough bonus points to make up for that.

I also have recently bought 3 on the PS3 and I am enjoying that as well. Either way I think 3 is far superior to 1, even if it lacks some of 2's magic.

I bought 3 and it was just nothing what I hoped it would be. Never played it since. I have all of the Sims 2
expansion packs so yeah have been playing now for well damn since I was uuhm (needs to think hard XD)
I guess I started playing when I was 14 ^^'
Just was to disappointed about 3, I do have some other titles for playstation 2 but I liked the pc version the most.

I've been replaying Half Life 2, as well as playing these for the first time:

Assassin's Creed
Call of Juarez
Rainbow Six Las Vegas 2
FarCry 2
Pikasyuu
Dragonquest 5!
Pretty effing good so far. I wish I could carry around a portable walkthrough, though. Yes, I'm that girl, the one who consults google whenever she enters a building in an rpg.
Hobbes
Finished replaying Half Life 2: Episode Two yesterday. I'd forgotten how good it is. It is far superior to Episode 1, and also has quite a lot going for it compared to HL2 itself. Makes me desperate for Episode 3 though.
Hobbes
I've recently finished the main game of Batman: Arkhum Asylum. It frustrated me sometimes, because it held my hand far too much thoughout the whole game: telling me exactly what I should have done whenever I messed up something. It kind of tries to be semi-open-world, but guides you around on a leash. And yet... I'm still playing it to find all the secrets, and I enjoy the fight challenges too. It is very much a console-style game (I'm playing it on the PC), but it's actually a fair amount of fun.

I think an excellent Batman game would have to be built from the GTA mold. Give us the whole of Gotham, plus Batman's vehicles and gadgets, and then just stick various crimes all over the place to deal with, as well as a main 'story' to follow when we want to. Perhaps one day...

EDIT: ...Ah... which it seems is what the new game, Arkham City, is gonna try and do to some extent.
Mata
I would be very surprised if the Arkham City turned out to be much more open - although it is reportedly a lot larger. I loved Batman:AA so I'm looking forward to the sequel.

I'm currently playing Mass Effect 2 on the Insane difficulty mode. It is named correctly - mostly I've only had moments where I got stuck for about an hour. Currently I'm stuck on a fight that I have been trying for about three hours. I think I've come close to finishing it a few times, but I've not done it yet. I recall it being one of the sticking spots on the last play through (on Normal) so it's not surprising I'm finding it tough going. My average life span is around 90 seconds.
Hobbes
The original Mafia was about £1.75 or something ridiculous on Steam this week, and I vaguely remembered playing the demo a while back, so thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm really not enjoying it at the moment :/ I've tried to keep plugging away at it, in the hope that it'll evolve as I play somehow, but so far it's not looking good. I've read some very positive reviews of the game, which is why I'm persevering, but I'm finding it very frustrating to play.

I would like to say that maybe it just shows its age (almost nine years ago now), but I think it's more than just that sad.gif
Hobbes
Just finished Call of Jaurez: Bound In Blood.

It felt like a struggle getting to the end... frustrating and not overly enjoyable sometimes. The only thing that kept me at it was liking some of the bigger shoot-outs. I ended up skipping cutscenes (which I NEVER normally do) just to get to the end of the game quicker.
Phantom
I was playing Catz for the Wii, simple simple simple, but clever interface design, there where only two times in the whole game I had
to think for myself.. but still I do enjoy the game it has enough diversity for young and older and is easy to grasp for everyone
CrazyFooIAintGettinOnNoPlane
I've been playing my humble indie bundle games:

Crayon Physics Deluxe
Cogs
VVVVVV
Hammerfight
And Yet It Moves (already owned this)
Steel Storm: Burning Retribution
Atom Zombie Smasher
Braid (already owned this one but not on linux)
Cortex Command
Machinarium
Osmos
Revenge of the Titans

not bad for a few dollars. VVVVV was tons of fun and I'm now working my way through Revenge of the Titans which is a really good tower defense thing.

I'm currently trying to decide whether to give up on Dark Souls. I can see why masochist 'old school' gamers like it, but by modern standards it's shockingly poor. The signposting is dreadful, systems are completely unexplained, decisions are arbitrary, and the enemies are willfully difficult. I've got to bit called 'Sen's Fortress' and they are now combining a quite large load of combat in a highly-hazardous environment where you stand a high chance of being knocked off of an edge with very few checkpoints. It was interesting, but now it's heading towards being dull and it doesn't look like it's going to pull out any impressive new features any time soon. Hmm.

Recently I've been playing:

Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - because it never arrived on the PC, but my girlfriend has it on the PS3 so I thought I'd have a blast. It's... not bad, but I think it suffers from having lengthy moments of 'chat' when all you are doing is listening and riding a horse for several minutes. I wonder to what extent that can be called 'gameplay'.

Fallout 3 (PC) - spent a long time playing this a while ago but suddenly stopped for some reason. Now I've begun playing it again from the beginning. Always enjoyable. Always buggy. I'm surprised at some of the stuff I don't remember from the first time around, but a little disappointed with how easy it is to "break" the game (particularly the story).

Hotline Miami (PC) - A friend recommended this to me, mainly due to the soundtrack. It does sound fantastic, it's very brutal, very retro, but lots of fun. I don't think I've ever played another game where I've died so many times, yet continued to try again without feeling frustrated.
