It's a selection of responses from well known US right-wingers, and also from some right wing blogs.

Scary scary stuff.

we dither over proper handling of the Koran

Dither? If your holy book was abused, you'd probably be somewhat upset. Why is another religion's holy book any different?

"If its Islamic it will probably blow up.  All Islamic get full body searches with VERY high intensity X-rays ."

"The best way to deliver those high intensity x-rays is through some W76 warheads at around 100 kt a piece. It will be easier to give a full body search after that."

"Britain should END ALL ISLAMIC IMMIGRATION NOW....Continuing to welcome the enemy into your country is insane."

"subhumans, first time on 2 feet...round em all up, every friggin' last one of them...unfortunately, I still think it will take even more violence from the Arabs before the West wakes up and goes savage on em"

That is disgusting and horrific prejudice with incitement to violence. And they're trying to battle two groups at once: Islamics and Arabs, which are two different things. Of course, because maybe some terrorists are Islamic and Arab, that doesn't mean that all of them are. That also doesn't mean that all Islamic Arabs are terrorists. Do we even know if these attacks had anything to do with Islam? This is ugly racism. Almost all religions have people doing violent things to supposedly support them. And although I'm sure a majority of Americans don't feel this way, it's disturbing that some do.

I feel sick that people can feel such a strong sense of nationalism and be so xenophobic.

anyway, I think I'll stop here, and probably edit this post... I was cranky before I read this and this didn't make me much happier.

We must all remember that although most, if not all, of the members here disagree with those quotes and the general conservative viewpoint on terrorism, morals, way of life, etc., they think liberals (or, Those damned libbers!) are just as loopy as we think they are. Always keep that in mind-- everything we feel about them, they feel about us, too. They believe they're right, just as we believe we're right.

That being said, what else can you expect? A lot of their beliefs and misinformed judgements are based on fear as well as instilled prejudice.

Holy feces-on-a-cracker. There's conservative and then there's... that.
CheeseMoose
The scary thing is it's not just nut-jobs saying things like this. After we learned of the London bombings on Thursday, here are some quote from some people I was with. Intelligent, normal, friendly people.

I just want to go and kill some Muslims

I was seriously scared that day

... black guy? wtf?
CheeseMoose
Don't ask me, I was confused as well

Maybe something to do with the Nation of Islam presence in the US? Its the only thing I can think of, besides the obvious answer of the guy being a crackhead.

NOI aren't even Muslim, in any reasonable sense of the world. They're a weird cult, racist and anti-Semitic. And besides which, not widely known within the UK, so I doubt that's it.

Yeah, subhuman, right? I'm not one for cultural relativism, but how about folks in Asia considering these round-eyes subhuman? Hmm? God forbid you have brown skin these days.

Something even funnier: JESUS, OUR LORD AND SAVIOR WHOSE FANCLUB I ASSUME THESE MUTANTS GO TO EVERY SUNDAY WAS BROWN! Is the son of God subhuman? I'm not God, but if someone were to be giving my Son's people that kind of crap, there'd be fire and/or brimstone.

F*ckin' grrrr!

Okay, let's pretend for a second that I'm not of mixed blood and half of my family isn't from the UK. Xenophobia annoys me because I find it illogical that one group of people can consider a piece of land "theirs" because they are a specific race or share similar beliefs and everyone else just doesn't belong. I find it particularly interesting in the States because it was more-or-less founded by immigrants.

Arabs are to America as Jews were to 1930s Germany (in Ri's mind, at least). This sickens me. So where are the showers and ovens?

What do black folks have to do with mideastern folks in this situation? Why does race even matter?

It's crap like this that further kills my faith in humanity.

I think NOI was bought to public attention when the leader, or some one quite high up in NOI, was prevented (or there was uproar against him) coming to the UK to do some speaches or suck like. This is a few years back. Something along the lines of incitement to racial hatred, if I remember correctly.

Or maybe, it's like how very young children count "One, two, many.", but instead "White, white enough, dark." *shrugs*

I'd just like to say I don't think these people are a good representation of the Conservative right, just like Michael Crook is not a good representation of the Liberal Left.
Mata
I think that Conservatism has it's place on the political spectrum, just as liberalism does, but like everything it can be taken too far. Waaaaaay too far. It seems that the times we live in are more prone to right-wing people going too far than left-wing, but right-wing philosophy is usually just an excuse for selfishness, which is often very comfortable in the company of a capitalist state.
Sir Psycho Sexy
Off topic mostly, but I read the title as "right-wingnut jobs" at first...confused me a bit that did.

Anyway, as usual I have nothing constructive to add to the discussion... unsure.gif
