{Gothic Angel}
*BANG* Suddenly you find yourself in a musty, dimly lit stone coridoor. You look down to find yourself wearing some rather nice boots, breeches and a tunic. In one hand you are clutching a smoking torch, in the other...

And this is what we wish to know. If you were to suddenly be transported into a fantasy universe, what would you be? Mage? Tank? Rogue?

Personally, I hope I would be a mage, more specifically an AD&D sorceress (they're easier to play). I like the attraction of having higher-than-average intelligence, no compulsion to be of any particular alignment, and a tendency to cause massive amounts of damage whilst staying firmly out of combat. Plus clumping around in copious amounts of armour is just so... undignified. So unelegant. Plus the nice language skills, random knowledge about bizzare and unusual things, and pretty toys (mages go so well with the alchemy skill), fit me down to a tee.

If not a mage, I'd like to be a rogue. The same goes for the large amounts of damage, light armour and pretty toys. And they get to be nice and dextrous, which I'm really not in real life, so it would be nice. And thats not mentioning stealthage abilities. And many many skills.

So. How bout you?
little_bear
Well, I'd quite like to be a druid. The ability to turn into different animals would be really cool, plus they're still a dab hand at magic. If not a druid, then I'd have to be a warrior/tank. For me, the appeal lies in hitting things with a pointy stick very hard whilst wearing lots of cool armour.
trunks_girl26
Sorceress. Definately sorceress. The spells (both destructive and healing) appeal to me immensely.
Dreams On Hiatus
Well, since, um, the only rpg game I play is RO I would have to say I would prefer being...a knight. High hp and agi (cause I like hybrids). Plus, I really like that fin helm and that peco peco bird. *nods to self*
eleraama
I'd be a mage too. When I play Neverwinter Nights, I play a hybrid druid/wizard (although, yes, my character is female). That way, I can morph, and still do wicked awesome magical damage from a distance.
Interestingly enough, in Neverwinter Nights (which is based on D&D), wizards and sorcerors are different. Wizards need high intelligence, and sorcerors need high charisma.

Oddly enough, this "malady" is due to the fact that, in D+D, a wizard bases his max casting level, bonus spells and save difficulty on intelligence, while a sorceror bases his on charisma. wink.gif Don't worry, its a change that came about for third edition (about five years ago or so tongue.gif). The "logic" is that wizards study their whole lives for knowledge of magic, whilst sorcerors awaken it through force of personality, what with it being in their blood already and such.

/me is teh roguezor. Not the one that plays with treasure and toys, though, the kind that does backflips and feints and is constantly rolling and leaping about their enemy to get those repeated sneak attacks in, not just the one from skulking. Also, I would probably be four feet high maximum.

Oh, and finally - Druids get offensive spells. Their high level ones are not just nasty, but also *divine* in nature (ie you can wear armour and still use them) and quite unique. Earthquake is teh rooxor. (its no implosion, but is fun nevertheless wink.gif)

I'm not much for D&D (NWN) since Guild Wars came out, but in that I tend to specialise in Monk which focuses mostly on healing and protection with a little damage dealing. I like the healing/protection aspect best. I suppose the D&D equivilent would be a Cleric.

Except real clerics get platemail tongue.gif

The magic is almost identical though - clerics get very few offensive spells (though they can be effective...)

Also a cleric can do turning/rebuking undead. So a D+D cleric is a GW monk, necromancer and warrior all in one!
... only without the hexes, swords, axes, curses, blood magic and the likes XD

D&D has monks. And for the most part, certainlty in the groups is play D&D with, we tend to avoid them. In the words of one of them "No-one gets to be that leet without serious hackage."

And they kinda are, tbh. It's just so stupid the amount of damage they can give and take PLUS pseudo-magical abilities, PLUS eventual transcendance. Whats the point? By about level 10, a challenge for the rest of the group is something you wipe out with trivial ease. Its no fun when its not a challenge anymore.
Chronotub
I like to play as a rogue in D&D, the conartist type with abilitys so he can minipulate other charicters

word! [/spam]

though the odd thing is, they're balanced mechanically. Monks are great until they come up against something with a damage reduction of anythin/+4. Their fists only ever count as a +3 max (unless you get to epic levels, but then you're dealing with reductions of /+6 and more), so they can't touch the higher level baddies normally, and that "transendence" you talk about makes them vulnerable to spells that wouldn't normally affect pc's, and also certain forms of turning (!). You want something dead? Gimme a good old fighter any day!

That said, the buggers are a nightmare to put down. All three saving throws are maxed out... no other class gets that!

Needless to say, I would certainly *not* be one of these haxxorz
Feyliya
Rogue most deffinitely! And probably half-elven, too! Do not underestimate my sneaky sneakiness! cool.gif
Jonman
Back in the day when I used to play proper RPGs with dice and paper and everything, I always liked to play archer/rogue/elf types. But then again, who didn't?

Or a really fat, obnoxious merchant type.
Matthew
I always ended up being evil nasty dark elves, pale skinny, looked good in dark clothing types! Plus, it was always fun to cackle maniacally & shout "BOO!" at the goodies!
Manic laugh no 1: Ahahahhahaharrrrrr!
Manic laugh no 2: Nahararararraaaaah!
Or,
Evil laugh no 10: YahahahahhahARGHHHH....
( splutters out as some shiny paladin fella
skewers me on his magic pig-sticker... )
Ah, good times.. Sniff!

They are fun. But you have to play 'em evil. Drizzt wannabes are just so sickeningly tragic... dry.gif And it's fun to take the wind out of the sails of Paladins biggrin.gif

Hehe, nope, no moping about for me, Evil as a lifestyle choice!!
Forgotten realms has a lot to answer for... Gotta admit I did use Do'Urden for my characters house... Eeek! The shame!

I'm not good at fighting actual people and I'm fairly brainy, which makes me a wizard by default I think. >.>
{Gothic Angel}
You mean Daermon N'a'shezbaernon, surely? tongue.gif Ah, drow names are fun. I played one for a one-shot called Jhandria Sol Malmur'ss. It meant something deeply significant at the time, although I couldn't tell you what it meant now.
PsychWardMike
I haven't played D&D for a good while now, so forgive me if my terminology is incorrect.

I usually have two basic characters I play as: one based on the real me in body size and temperment (this is usually the bigest, burliest fighter I can make and armed with a big friggin axe and potential for a little magic) or the me I'd like to be (small, agile, and magical!) The morality tends to stay neutral with leanings toward good.
eleraama
In NWN (and likely D&D), Druids have to be neutral... kind of interesting. I actually couldn't level up for a while as a Druid because I was too good, and had to go do some bad acts... heheh. Balance is interesting.
IrishGuy
When I play RPGs, I usually play a tank. However I know that in real life I'm not a tank at all. My suggestion? Some sort of test? Or finding one instead of making it?
pgrmdave
I am a D&D (2nd ed.) person. As such, I'd like to be either a Wizard, or a Ranger. I like the idea of an archer who, when the combat gets too close, is able to duel wield with no penalty. Wizards are, if they know the right spells, easily the most powerful characters at the highest levels - prepared for anything (foresight, contingency, timestop), dealing out massive amounts of damage (delayed blast fireball, prismatic spray, meteor swarm, power word kill), and, of course, wish smile.gif
MrTeapot
Pfft you and your NWN do dabs. On the proper pen, paper and dice games that I play I will always strive to be the sneakiest, shadiest character possible which is most likely to be a rogue (assassin at later levels).

Bah humbug I say. Implosion is the king of offensive spells, no questions asked! Time stop? only prolongs your ultimate death!

Time stop is useful. It allows you to drop a number of nice explodey spells then run away and watch the pretties biggrin.gif And wail of the banshee is just me all over... I can practically kill people irl by screaming anyway tongue.gif

Wish and so forth though... blergh. Too risky. I never have very high wisdom (Oooh, what does *this* button do?), so results tend to be interesting at best. Stick with a nice boom.

Incidentally... Rangers got seriously nerfed in 3rd ed - they were almost as much of a hack as monks in 2nd, imo. And then brought back up to something approaching normal in 3.5, but you can follow the dual weild path OR the archery path as a class abilities thing. If you want t'other, you have to waste feats which could be used on useful things.

I'd definately be a wizard of some sort. My Diablo sorceress is easily my favorite character. Although, that might have something to do with all the fireballs you can make. I suppose I'd be anything with fire. That D&D games sounds really fun, what console is it for?

You play it on the small, obscure console called PnP. Ask around and I'm sure you can find one. laugh.gif

Damn kids. No respect for the classics.

Don't know their roots, goddamnit!
BlueOrange25
I'd want to be a wizard. All those spells, the ability to seemingly defy the laws of physics and nature... It just seems a more fantastical role to me.

*sobs*

The game is dead to me now! Dead!

Pen and paper, sweetie, it hasn't quite died out yet tongue.gif Although the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series for PC are AD&D second ed based. If you *must* play it on a console, there's BG2 dark alliance for PS2 and possibly Xbox.
PsychWardMike
There are no D&D -esque RPGs worth playing on consoles anymore. There are some nifty new RPGs (Final Fantasy, Disgaea, Shin Megami Tensei, etc.) that are nice and all that, but D&D remains only on paper and pencil for me.

Have to agree. It's that strong feel of power and knowlage also on spells that appeal to me.

I used to love playing barbarian berserker types (i think somewhere along the line i have that in my ancestry) I curently play a halfling rogue.

I think that I am probably a bog standard fighter, if we are basing it on our own phsicality.
Quoth(The Raven)
I'd have to learn to be a DM... I like to be Goddess! laugh.gif
Mittens322
I'd like to be a warrior. A shield in one hand and a sword in the other. Witchcraft is against my religion, so I wouldn't be a mage. I've never played D&D, thats before my time. I play magic though.

I thought Magic was about... well, magic? Isn't that part of witchcraft?

Not flaming, just curious smile.gif
Jimmy-von-Lucidious
I'd be a bard, I can be a bard can't I? I like to compose and sing for my supper and insinuate myself in to all manner of rich places to pilfer. I know a little sword play, but mostly just showy tricks, I know a little security to help me pilfer that much better, I know a little magic just little things to make life and battle just that easier. I'm a bit of a weakling but hey it's a fun ride. Oh and often my familiar isn't too far away...
