When at The Subways most recent gig in Norwich (Norfolk, England) at the Arts Centre, I got to see one of the support bands Chihiro.
Does anyone know them/ heard of them/ seem them etc?
They completely blew me away, and although I bought a copy of their CD, I would still love to see them again. I think their music is incredible and that it has such a fresh sound that is at the same time quite reminiscent of alot of other bands but withut copying them.
In a nutshell- I love them and if anyone else does or doesn't but has still heard of them then I'd love to know!

I'm presuming no-one has heard of them... Or cares...
Either way- no-one?

I think that one of my friends listens to their music, but I'm not absolutely sure, as she's obsessed with lots of bands that I've never heard of. Good luck finding someone who listens to them!

Yay! A response! It is proving almost impossible to even find another gig date for them, let alone anyone else who has heard of them!
I think perhaps I should stop trying, and then they might knock on my door...
*visions of Billy knocking on door...*
mmmmmmmmmm... Billy from Chihiro....... *drools a little*

unfortunately not billy knocking on your door, but the estranged bass playing "additional musician" ali from the gig you saw. i am on a year abroad studying in sweden and am bored of reading about inorganic carbon in aquatic systems. so luckily for you i resorted to the classic google search of my band.
anyway you dont want to know that, you want to know that they have a gig on the 28th September at the marquee in norwich. there is also a myspace page at myspace.com/billyanddayo. i think a real website is to come. but i dont really know. they will be back in norwich for university next week so no doubt there will be more gig type activity from then on.
and thats about it. enjoy the gig. i wish i could be there...maybe if you can play bass you could replace me.

hey ali! guess what? dayo did the google search the other day too! thats weird isn't it? great minds think alike. i didn't knock on her door but i emailed her and told her about the gig. are you sure you can't fly over and play bass? i've been feeling a real lack of additional musicians lately. in fact i should tell pete we're playing another gig shouldn't i? i'm so rubbish. we miss you a lot man. hope sweden is super duper but not so super duper that you won't fly back if we get a record deal.
hey daria! i emailed you but you didnt email back. i'm dissapointed. i wanted you to write more nice things about my band. i showed the first lot of nice things to my mum and dad and they said that they were 'very nice'. hope you come to the gig on the 28th and bring lots of people. we will probably be rubbish because ali isn't playing but the headliner kimya dawson is wickedness personified. i am not feeling very well so i'm gonna go lie down and watch the cricket.

Let me start by smiling wildly

This is really quite bizzarre! I really do love your music- the cd that I bought from the subways gig has been occupying my cd player for most of the summer. My cd player gets in a huff and refuses to play it sometimes...
I will try my upmost hardest to come to the gig on the 28th, with a car load of friends. My friend Lily and I have made a rather mini fanbase over the summer; our friends got bored of us just ranting about you guys and so finaly conceeded to listening to the cd and admited to its brilliance

Damn my junkmail filter stopping your e-mail from getting through to my inbox! I will have to trawl through my junkmail folder more carefully in the future...
I have a question for you (two?) actually! Did the name Chihiro come from a character in a Japanese cartoon film called Spirited Away?
I still can't believe you guys found this thread... Insane

Well, I suppose I will see you on the 28th!
Take care, and have fun with the cricket and being in Sweeden!

How very true! You guys were great, damn me not having enough money for your wee CD, if you have any on the 28th I'll be sure to get me one, but thankfully I've pinched it off Becky and listened with great enthusiasm

We'll be sure to be cheering you on, dancing like loons, and singing along on the 28th, shall be ace

Okay.
I randomly found my way here from the Tofu thread (

) and have come to the conclusion that the two are somehow linked, Daria mentioned something about Marquees in Norwich and the 28th... so yeah, promote me to Detective Inspector snoo.
I move to Norwich on the 25th and have no idea if I'll be able to get there but on the off chance that I can I have a few questions...
1. Is it sold out already?
2. Where is the Marquee? I'm guessing it isn't just a big marquee in the middle of the city centre so won't be too easy to find just by wandering. I don't even know where I'll be living yet so... yeah. Also I haven't been to Norwich since I was about 12 and all I remember is having to sleep in the car because there were no empty hotels.
3. How much of my £££ will it cost if I do make it?
Erm... yeah, I've rambled enough now.

bye

Congratulations Detective Snoo.. We have been expecting you.
*strokes white cat*

I have yet to find a number to get tickets, but I am still looking. I will also get a map and photobucket it on here!
Entry is £5!
I'll get back to you when I gots me some details
Daria

Trying to find out ticket information... Finding it difficult!
I did find a wee map though...

Well... I googled the venue and got loads of people who hire out marquees in Norwich so that was really handy!
Daria
Sep 14 2005, 08:48 PM
Indeed

I think you get tickets on the door. But I am not entirely sure as it is just what I have found out from other gigs there... I am still trying. Was the map any use? It sort of makes sense to me, but that is because I know Norwich a bit...
I think that once you get down there, you should beable to find it. It is along Cattle Markett Street (25 Cattle Market Street, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 3DY) which is off Farmer's Avenue- it's not too far away from the Castle Mall. I will try and get proper details, but once you are there, you have a couple of days to familiarise yourself with the place

If you need any more details, or even a number to call and shout for help, don't hesitate to ask! (although I may not be the best person for directions.. I can get lost on a straight road...)

Sep 14 2005, 08:48 PM
hi there! The Marquee is a pretty small pub which is the other side of the castle mall. the road is called rose lane apparently. I dont think it will sell out but its difficult to tell, it is pretty small, and i dont really know what the chances of getting tickets in advance are like, it might just be a case of having to turn up nice and early which would be about 7.30/8 o'clockish. Hope you find it okay,
Billy

Sep 15 2005, 09:34 PM
I'm looking forward to it... although that's probably not wise seeing as I'm not 100% sure if I'll be able to go yet.
It should be okay, hopefully I can get my head around bus time tables in 3 days
Novander
Sep 15 2005, 09:37 PM
Bus timetables? Bah! You've got legs haven't you?
Daria
Sep 15 2005, 09:43 PM
I haven't a clue about bus timetables in Norwich, but there might be something of use on www.bbc/co.uk/norfolk. At least a link or something...
snoo
Sep 18 2005, 07:11 PM
So... you would walk 4 miles to work and then 4 miles back again just because you hate buses?
I hate buses too and avoid them as much as possible but seeing as how I don't really want to walk (by myself) into a town I've been in for 3 days when it's dark and I haven't the foggiest where I am going or anything I'd feel a whole lot better taking the bus. If I find out that I can see the city from my building then maybe I'll risk it but until I know the place in daylight a little better I'll be busing it.
/rant
I'll let you know when I know where I'll be living and if I'm likely to be able to make it.
Novander
Sep 19 2005, 10:13 AM
I'd probably give myself a two to three mile limit on avoiding buses.
Edit: Yarr

This is not a lie!! She bit people at Green Day, The Undertones.. and some other time... only in moshpits though... strange woman

It wasn't a moshpit! It was right at the front! (the other gig was The Buzzcocks at Gig In The Park...)

Novander's Lesson For The Day
When deciding to meet people you only know online, it is a good idea to arrange somewhere specific to meet, or at the very least to find out what the people you're meeting look like. For future reference, I look like the
guy on the right, but less tired and more awesome.

In related news, Chihiro were pretty good, and it turns out I sort of know the drummer/guitarist.
Daria
Sep 28 2005, 10:15 PM
He he he.. That would have been a good idea, wouldn't it?

In case you wondered, I was the girl sitting on her own on the ramp bit by the picnic table, wearing a brightly coloured skirt and calf length boots and a black top. Oo! And I had below-the-shoulder length brown hair...
Oh how I love that band!
Wow, Novander- you know Dayo? What a crazy small world this is....
I'm so glad I went to the gig in the end- I wasn't going to as Lils was ill, as am I, but I traveled the whole 30 miles, stayed for an hour (enough time to see T-bone steak and Chihiro) and went home again.
Time for bed, said Zebadee...
Novander
Sep 28 2005, 10:18 PM
The band on after Chihiro were really good, but the main act was pretty rubbish. She had a sore throat, but I don't see how that can excuse the fact she only seems to know two chords.
Daria
Nov 15 2005, 06:52 PM
Bump!
Another Chihiro gig, same place- The Marquee Pub, Norwich- 8pm, Thursday 17th November.
I
shall be there
Novander
Nov 17 2005, 04:42 PM
I shall not be.
I've only had 4-5 hours sleep a night for the past three nights, so now my report has been completed and handed in, I feel like doing nothing more than collapsing. And I don't know if I've even got the energy for that.
Snoo's coming over later sometime though. I'll tell her about the gig. Don't know if she'll be up for it but if you PM her your mobile number then she'll actually be able to find you this time, if she does decide to go.
Daria
Nov 17 2005, 09:46 PM
It turns out I have no money, no driving lisence or magical teleporter machine or willing parent/ friend to take me to the train station, no energy and so therefore it has sort of culminated into me not going.
Gah!
I will go next time.
I am currently trying to find train and or bus times and fares to Liverpool...
