I was having a chat with someone in class about music and how some good stuff is finally coming back but our opinions differed on decades that have the best music.
Personally I think the 60s and 70s had some awesome rock and roll in there, but my own personal preferance swings to the 90s. Let's face it the 90s had great bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Filter, NIN, Stone Temple Pilots, White Zombie, and the list goes on and on and on. It's not like a lot of todays music that is around for a year or less and then fades off into oblivion because we still listen to them now, or at least I do. I know they still play a lot of these bands on my favorite radio station and thankfully it's not an oldies station, although I do sometimes hear stuff I listened to as a teenager on those stations.
So what are your thoughts?

To me, after the sixties it became rock music, which is something other than rock and roll, so that was the height of it in my mind.
Rock, like most genres, is pretty diverse. Do we include metal in there? Surely Nirvana were grunge, which was probably encompassed by rock.
To me, rock means guys with big hair and loud guitars, 80s stadium rock style (Guns 'n' Roses for example). Rock 'n' roll is more Elvis, Beatles, Little Richard.
Then again, looking at those example, I'm being rubbish at remembering decades, so I've probably pitched a little late with my vote.

I actually think that those all emcompass rock and roll to me. Rock or Rock and Roll are the same things in my mind. This does include everything from the Beatles to White Zombie in my own mind. The joy of it is it grows and changes as time goes on. That's just my opinion though.

I voted 70's but what I really wanted was '75-'85.

I voted '70's, but then remembered that The Doors were spawned in the '60's, as were The Beatles. But both bands went on into the '70's (a little bit)

I think rock can never be the same as when it was in the '70's- but then again I don't suppose if it was, people would like it as they may as well listen to the original stuff.
Are The B52's regarded as 'rock' ?

80s. Van Halen, Toto, Alice in Chains spawned from there, and the list goes on. I think being a teen in a certain decade influences your choice; that's probably why I like the 80s so much. Well, in my opinion, 80s rock = good, everything else (such as spandex, new romantics, scarily big hair) = bad.
There's some good music from the 70s I like aswell, but the 80s wins just because it scares me so much.

I like music from all decades, but what do I listen to the most? 90's and 00's. And just because I can't stand it when people say 'They don't make good music any more', I chose 00's out of those two.
